Jedes Jahr landen fast acht Millionen Tonnen Plastik im Meer. Bis sich der Kunststoff unter diesen Bedingungen zersetzt hat, dauert es Ewigkeiten. Eine Plastikflasche braucht beispielsweise 450 Jahre, um komplett zu zerfallen. In Großbritannien setzten Forscher nun auf spezielle Bakterien, um die Umweltverschmutzung in den Griff zu bekommen.

Das neue Enzym zersetzt Plastik viel schneller

Der gefräßige Mikroorganismus ‚Ideonella Sakaiensis‘ ist der Forschung schon länger bekannt. Wissenschaftler entdeckten, dass die Bakterien sich auf Flaschen ansiedelten und das Plastik mithilfe eines Enzyms verdauten. Das Problem war bisher nur, dass es immer noch lange dauerte, bis das Plastik komplett zersetzt war. Für eine dünne Plastikfolie brauchten die Bakterien rund 60 Wochen.

Wissenschaftler experimentierten nun mit dem Enzym, das die Bakterien zum Verdauen des Plastiks brauchen. „Wir haben das Erbgut herausgenommen und mit dem Enzym herum-experimentiert und bei diesem Vorgang haben wir durch Zufall ein schnelleres Enzym entwickelt“, erklärte John McGeehan, Professor an der Universität Portsmouth. Die Bakterien schaffen es jetzt, in 96 Stunden eine komplette Plastikflasche zu zerlegen.

Kürzlich bin ich auf ein sehr interessantes Interview von Ronald Bernard gestossen. Er hat eine sehr bewegende Geschichte hinter sich, wie er einst selbst Teil des Systems war und als „Banker“ den Mächtigen dieser Welt diente . Er verfügt über die Gabe mehrere mit einander komplex verwobene Zusammenhänge schnell zu erfassen und zusammenzufügen. Dies hat ihm zu viel Erfolg und Ansehen verholfen, jedoch auch zu immer tieferen Kreisen der Mächtigen geführt, die seine Gabe erkannten und ihn ganz für sich gewinnen wollten. Er musste dabei einen Punkt überschreiten, wo er selbst von sich sagte, dass sein „Kühlschrank“ nicht mehr funktionierte und dabei selbst gebrochen wurde, weil er nicht tun konnte was sie von ihm verlangten…

„Kannst du da nicht etwas mehr Melodie reinbringen?“ Ich zeige meinem Kumpel den Entwurf vom Intro für eine Goaparty und er findet es etwas eintönig. Nein, denn der dauerhafte Summton macht unheimlich Stimmung. Es gefällt mir. Das ist atmosphärisch. Da giesse ich noch Funken und Klirren rein. Es pulsiert. Es schneidet die Luft. Ja, mir fehlt die Musiktheorie, ich weiss nicht was Harmoniefolgen sind und Melodien komponieren – keine Ahnung.

Zwei Uhr morgens. Ich stosse auf die Website von Cryo Chamber. Industrieanlagen in der Ferne. Verlassene Raumstationen, Sendeanlagen, Radarschüsseln. Tropfsteinhöhlen. Ein Polarwinter. Regen. Die Erde im postnuklearen Zustand. Das entfernte Geräusch vom Ofen, der den Kamin unten heizt. Das mystische Surren der weit entfernten Klimaanlage in einem Lüftungsschacht.

OH MEIN GOTT, ich habe meine Musik gefunden! Genau das will ich machen. Mein misslungener Entwurf für das Intro erstrahlt in neuer Dunkelheit: Der dauerhafte Summton heisst „Drohne“ und das ganze nennt sich „Dark Ambient“.

Es scheint, als würde mein Fetisch für summende Antennenanlagen, Lüftungsschächte und Raumschiffgeräusche mit meinem Hang für langanhaltende Dauertöne sich zu einem eigenen Musikstil kulminieren.

I have come to realize several things about the dark ambient genre and its greater community. I would like to share them with you. First off, I’m sure this will be a given for many, but when I say “darkness”, I do not only mean spooky. Darkness in the context of dark ambient manifests itself in a variety of ways. The heartbreak of a lost love. A peaceful walk through the woods on a cool evening. Extra-terrestrial lifeforms visiting our planet. A crackling fire inside an arctic cabin. A mental tour of the cosmos. These are all dark experiences. Dark, just like the man locked inside a cell, hallucinating, as he falls deeper into his insanity. Or, like the raising of evil spirits by means of seance or satanic ritual. The greatest common denominator here seems to be a sense of solitude.

Eine Metalband interpretiert klassische Musik neu? Oder: Was passiert, wenn zwei Welten aufeinandertreffen? Der klassische Fagottist in Anzug und Krawatte neben wirbelnden Kreissägengitarren?

Genau das zeichnet die Metallszene aus. Das hatte ich schon am Wacken 2010 gespürt: Du kannst dorthin gehen, so wie du bist -- und wirst gefeiert. Das vermeintlich Unvereinbare wird miteinander vereint, Gegensätze spielen Seite an Saite zusammen.
