„Kannst du da nicht etwas mehr Melodie reinbringen?“ Ich zeige meinem Kumpel den Entwurf vom Intro für eine Goaparty und er findet es etwas eintönig. Nein, denn der dauerhafte Summton macht unheimlich Stimmung. Es gefällt mir. Das ist atmosphärisch. Da giesse ich noch Funken und Klirren rein. Es pulsiert. Es schneidet die Luft. Ja, mir fehlt die Musiktheorie, ich weiss nicht was Harmoniefolgen sind und Melodien komponieren – keine Ahnung.

Zwei Uhr morgens. Ich stosse auf die Website von Cryo Chamber. Industrieanlagen in der Ferne. Verlassene Raumstationen, Sendeanlagen, Radarschüsseln. Tropfsteinhöhlen. Ein Polarwinter. Regen. Die Erde im postnuklearen Zustand. Das entfernte Geräusch vom Ofen, der den Kamin unten heizt. Das mystische Surren der weit entfernten Klimaanlage in einem Lüftungsschacht.

OH MEIN GOTT, ich habe meine Musik gefunden! Genau das will ich machen. Mein misslungener Entwurf für das Intro erstrahlt in neuer Dunkelheit: Der dauerhafte Summton heisst „Drohne“ und das ganze nennt sich „Dark Ambient“.

Es scheint, als würde mein Fetisch für summende Antennenanlagen, Lüftungsschächte und Raumschiffgeräusche mit meinem Hang für langanhaltende Dauertöne sich zu einem eigenen Musikstil kulminieren.

I have come to realize several things about the dark ambient genre and its greater community. I would like to share them with you. First off, I’m sure this will be a given for many, but when I say “darkness”, I do not only mean spooky. Darkness in the context of dark ambient manifests itself in a variety of ways. The heartbreak of a lost love. A peaceful walk through the woods on a cool evening. Extra-terrestrial lifeforms visiting our planet. A crackling fire inside an arctic cabin. A mental tour of the cosmos. These are all dark experiences. Dark, just like the man locked inside a cell, hallucinating, as he falls deeper into his insanity. Or, like the raising of evil spirits by means of seance or satanic ritual. The greatest common denominator here seems to be a sense of solitude.

Monitoring mal richtig

• Zwei Go-Binaries, direkt ausführbar: prometheus und node_exporter
• node_exporter: Läuft auf dem System, von dem man Monitoringwerte auslesen will und stellt sie zur Verfügung
• prometheus: Monitoring-Dienst, der die Werte von allen node_exportern holt und speichert

In diesem Beispiel:

• node_exporter hat „textfile collectors“ aktiviert
• holt sich Textdateien im Verzeichnis /var/lib/textfile_collectors
• Debian-Version wird als Text in dieses Verzeichnis gespeichert, kann von beliebigen Skripts erstellt werden
• node_exporter stellt seine Werte unter http://zielhost:9000/metrics zur Verfügung
• unser erstellter Wert wird nun dort angezeigt

Dann auf dem Monitoringserver:

• Starte prometheus -config.file=prometheus.yml
• prometheus.yml: Welche Hosts und wie oft?
• Prometheus-Interface läuft auf http://monitoringserver:9090
• debian_version ist dort verfügbar

Optional:

• Alertmanager: Mehrstufige Alarmierung mit Eskalationsebenen, Trendalarmierung (=wenn der Speicherplatz so weiterschrumpft wie jetzt, haben wir in X Tagen keinen Platz mehr; Alarm!)
• Grafana: Grafische Darstellung aller Werte; konfigurierbar, beliebige Zeiträume und Werte in der Vergangenheit vergleichen
