„Kannst du da nicht etwas mehr Melodie reinbringen?“ Ich zeige meinem Kumpel den Entwurf vom Intro für eine Goaparty und er findet es etwas eintönig. Nein, denn der dauerhafte Summton macht unheimlich Stimmung. Es gefällt mir. Das ist atmosphärisch. Da giesse ich noch Funken und Klirren rein. Es pulsiert. Es schneidet die Luft. Ja, mir fehlt die Musiktheorie, ich weiss nicht was Harmoniefolgen sind und Melodien komponieren – keine Ahnung.

Zwei Uhr morgens. Ich stosse auf die Website von Cryo Chamber. Industrieanlagen in der Ferne. Verlassene Raumstationen, Sendeanlagen, Radarschüsseln. Tropfsteinhöhlen. Ein Polarwinter. Regen. Die Erde im postnuklearen Zustand. Das entfernte Geräusch vom Ofen, der den Kamin unten heizt. Das mystische Surren der weit entfernten Klimaanlage in einem Lüftungsschacht.

OH MEIN GOTT, ich habe meine Musik gefunden! Genau das will ich machen. Mein misslungener Entwurf für das Intro erstrahlt in neuer Dunkelheit: Der dauerhafte Summton heisst „Drohne“ und das ganze nennt sich „Dark Ambient“.

Es scheint, als würde mein Fetisch für summende Antennenanlagen, Lüftungsschächte und Raumschiffgeräusche mit meinem Hang für langanhaltende Dauertöne sich zu einem eigenen Musikstil kulminieren.

Ausserirdische Signale, fremde Planeten, Sternsysteme. Cryotechworld Outerspace. Fiip fiip zirr blink. Meine Entdeckungsreise wird gestützt durch den konstanten Ton der Drohne. Ich muss hier nichts tun. Es gibt keine Regeln. Hier herrscht Freiheit. Nur ich und der Klang. Ohne Rhythmus. Akkordfolgen? Musiktheorie? Alles belanglos. Stattdessen: Neue Geräusche ausprobieren. 24-bit Tonaufnahmen verfremden und mit Echos versehen. Synthesizer an ihre Grenzen treiben. Wenn ich zu weit in die unbekannten Klänge vordringe, kann ich jederzeit wieder zurück zum vertrauten Summton. Er ist immer da. Er gibt mir Halt und Geborgenheit. Es tröstet.

Nach einer Stunde ist die Reise vorbei, der Funkspruch 123454321 quittiert das.

Ein Künstler weiter: Das Gebiet ist Radioaktiv verseucht. Maschinengewehrsalven aus der Ferne. Nach den Gefechten ist jede Hoffnung verloren. Dieser Stil zeichnet ein düsteres Bild der Nachwirkungen des totalen Krieges, nachdem die Menschheit sich selbst einen tödlichen Schlag versetzt hat.

Urban Ambient zeichnet ein Bild von einer dunklen, regnerischen Nacht in der Innenstadt. Die Musik bittet den Hörer, tief in die eigene Seele einzutauchen. Auf diese Weise eignet sie sich perfekt zur Selbstreflexion, zum Schreiben von Geschichten und anderen Aktivitäten.
