Der Grund, warum es seit 2 Wochen keine Beiträge gab: Ich war in der friedlichsten Hölle der Welt; am Wacken Openair.

Was ist Wacken?

Die Frage „Wir gehen ans Wacken, kommst du mit?“ habe ich mit „ja“ beantwortet -- obwohl ich keine einzige Band kenne, die dort spielt. Aber: Es soll ja das grösste Metal-Festival der Welt sein, und ich kann ja mal sehen, wie sich die Hölle anfühlt.

Metal und Metalheads. Sehen düster aus und machen böse Musik -- ob die wohl nett sind?

Und ob!

Kaum auf dem Campingplatz angekommen, schwirren schon zwei Leute aus dem benachbarten Wohnwagen auf uns zu mit 6 Bierflaschen in der Hand. „Für Euch!“

Später schauten weitere gut aufgelegte Nachbarn zu uns rein -- und bekamen Freude an Fäbu’s Schnupftabakdose. Offenbar ist Schnupftabak in Deutschland nicht so verbreitet, und so lud er sie zu ein paar Runden Pulverwind ein. Sehr amüsant anzusehen -- weil er nämlich seine berndeutschen Schnupfsprüche ins Hochdeutsch übersetzen musste 😀

Die Zeltstadt ist riesig -- und von überall her dröhnt es. Ich kann aber nicht immer genau sagen, ob das Dröhnen jetzt von einem Ghettoblaster oder von einem rostigen Notstromaggregat mit einem Stecken in den Speichen kommt…

Die Zeltstadt ist so vielfältig wie die Leute, die sie bevölkern. Vom Militärlastwagen, Englischem Schulbus, Traktor mit Container war alles zu sehen, was als Behausung gut genug war. Auch Kühlschränke und Sofas dürfen nicht fehlen. Und warum nicht gleich auch Instrumente mitnehmen und auf dem Campinggelände ein Ständchen halten?

Der Alkohol- und Geräuschpegel ist zwar hoch -- die Atmosphäre ist zu meinem grossen Erstaunen aber sehr friedlich. Die Leute sind ausgelassen und feiern. Aber nirgendwo gib’s aggressive Stimmen oder Anpöbeleien. Wir können eifach durchs Gelände spazieren, auch mitten in der Nacht, ohne Angst zu haben.
Letztes Jahr soll es auf 100’000 Besucher nur 27 Anzeigen bei der Polizei gegeben haben.

Wackinger Village

Ein mittelalterlich eingerichtetes Dörfchen mit unzähligen Ständen. Trinkhörner, Nietengürtel, Schwerter, ja, ganze Ritterrüstungen gibt es dort zu kaufen. Oder Essen: Barbarenspiess, Steinofenbrot, Fladenbrot… Richtiges Mittelalter. Die Leute sind authentisch angezogen, bezahlt wird mit Talern.
In einer Arena werden Wikingerspiele ausgetragen, eine 3-Mann-Combo Mittelalterband spielt auf dem Wikingerschiff. In der Nacht kommt eine Frau mit Geige spontan bei einer Gaststätte vorbei und spielt ein Solo -- die Leute stimmen sofort ein. Eine tolle Stimmung!

Musik

Ok, ich bin an einem Metal-Festival. Was ist die härteste Band, die hier auftritt? Jetzt will ich es wissen. Ich will das böseste vom übelsten hören -- eifach so us Blödsinn und damit ich das auch mal erlebt habe.

Ich stand mit einem breiten Grinsen vor der Bühne. Ookeey…..
Für nicht-eingeweihte Aussenstehende klingt das wie gleichmässiger Lärm. Bei genauem hinhören aber fällt mir auf: Der Rhythmus wechselt, die Melodien klingen alle paar Takte anders. Es geht einfach mit einer Affengeschwindigkeit! Und das ist faszinierend: Der Schlagzeuger spielt echt. Kein Playback. Eine ganze Stunde lang. Die Band bleibt im Takt. Die Finger der Gitarristen wabern über die Seiten, es passt mit dem Rest zusammen.
Tief beeindruckt.

Ich erinnere mich noch, als ich in der Jazzband gespielt habe; da brauchte es am Anfang amigs nicht viel, und die Band fiel aus dem Takt und wir mussten von vorne beginnen.
Und bei Metal? Meine Güte… Abweichungen im Milisekundenbereich, und es ist vorbei. Ich liess mir sagen, dass die Spieler das gar nicht mit dem Gehör realisieren und korrigieren können -- das Gehirn braucht schlichtweg zu lang. Sie müssen es „erfühlen“.

Ich will gar nicht wissen, wie deren Notenblätter aussehen, und wie viele die davon pro Minute durchrattern -- auswändig!

Und dann ja, das Geschrei….. 😀 Tja. Scheint halt zu diesem Stil dazuzugehören.

Immerhin: Nach Cannibal Corpse sinkt die Hemmschwelle, so dass mich das Geschrei gar nicht mehr stört bei anderen Bands. Es könnte ja schlimmer sein 😛

Mit Bühneneffekten hat man auch nicht gespart. Auftritt von „Corvus Corax“:

Der brennende Wacken-Muuni hat oben noch zwei Flammenwerfer montiert, mit denen bei Konzerten grobe Stichflammen produziert werden können. Auch bei den Bühnen und auf den Mästen hinter dem Zuschauerbereich sind Flammenwerfer.

Es gibt unzählige Metalarten.

Was mir gefällt, sind Sachen mit mittelalterlichen Instrumenten; Lieder, die melodiös tönen. Folk Metal, Pangan Metal, Viking Metal… Ich hab‘ keinen genauen Überblick. Aber hier ein episch geniales Beispiel: Eluveitie (eine Schweizer Band, und nein, die kamen nicht am Wacken; die hat jemand auf dem iPod mitgebracht):

Und was gibt’s besseres, als nach dem Wacken noch ein bisschen an die Ostsee zu fahren, am Strand ein Feuer zu entfachen, Met aus dem Horn Trinken und bis in die Morgenstunden über Gott und die Welt zu reden…
