Das hat eine schöne Lawine losgetreten, damals, als ich diesen Artikel über das Tagebuchschreiben im Spick las. Ein Feuer entzündet hat er in mir. Nachdem ich diese wunderbar illustrierten Beispieltagebücher gesehen hatte, wusste ich einfach: „Ey, sowas brauch ich auch.“

So habe ich ein, zwei analoge Tagebüchlein vollgeschrieben. Dann für ein paar Jahre die Motivation verloren.
Dann wieder angefangen.
Und wieder ist es versandet.

Als ich dann aber im 2. Lehrjahr ein Webtagebuch begonnen hatte, kam ich nicht mehr davon los. Es sollte das Forum ablösen, das uns damals als Diskussionsplattform diente. Beiträge sollten chronologisch angeordnet werden, nicht mehr nach «Threads» – so dass jeder jeden neuen Beitrag sieht. Mehr an eine Zeitung angelehnt, mit dem Charme einer Schülerzeitung, wo jeder mitmachen konnte; inspiriert vom Typographiekurs der vorherigen Schule, abgeschaut von der Stadtzeitung. Serifenlose Titel, Fliesstext mit Serifen, Autor, Ort und Datum sollen nicht fehlen. So sah der erste Entwurf vom Scratchbook aus:

Ich war damals schampar fasziniert davon, wie PHP-Schleifen HTML-Code dynamisch erzeugen konnten. Wow!
Das alles entstand auf meinem Lehrlingsrechner, gstlehrpoww – GruppenSTationLEHRlingePrOzesseWarenWirtschaft. Schon damals habe ich darüber nachgedacht, das verteilte Systeme (technisch oder gesellschaftlich) eine tolle Sache sind. Schon damals habe ich Texte stehlen für eine gute Sache befunden. Schon damals hatte ich Banner geschaltet: Boykottiert die Musikindustrie! Um Informatik, Freizeit und Meinung soll es sich drehen. Und mit diesen beiden Zeichen hat alles angefangen:

So fängt PHP Code an. Und so fing auch meine Programmiererlaufbahn an. Ein antikes Stück Code. Aber jeder fängt mal an.
Ich wollte eine verteilte Wissensdatenbank für Lehrlinge erstellen; damit wir unsere Arbeitsbücher elektronisch pflegen und als PDF-Download ziehen können. Aber daraus wurde nichts. Es blieb beim Tagebuch.

Experimentell war das schon immer. Entwickelt wurde direkt auf dem Server; ich blendete eine «Achtung wackelig» Meldung ein; Google macht das ja auch so (aka Beta). Mein Mobiltelefon konnte plötzlich Fotos an eine E-Mail Adresse schicken; und Schwupps, hatte ich auch gleich eine Schnittstelle dafür gebaut; die Snapshots waren geboren. Diese und viel anderer technischer Schnickschnack zierten unser liebgewonnenes Kritzelbuch.
Irgendwann habe ich dann das ganze auf WordPress gezügelt. Die Inhalte wurden plötzlich wichtiger als die Technik. Das Experiment läuft weiter. Weniger technisch, mehr textlich. Die Fremdbeiträge und Kommentare nahmen ab. Ich mache weiter. Tagebuch zum mitlesen. Als psychologisches Dampfablass-Ventil. Und als Sendestation im grossen, weiten Internet, um Bewusstsein zu schaffen. Bewusstsein für Dinge, die manche nicht merken. Dinge, die untergehen. Dinge, die hinterfragt und herausgefordert werden wollen.
Natürlich eignet es sich auch prima als Archiv für Texte. Ein Sammelsurium von tollen Dingen aus dem Internet, aus der Welt. Oder Erlebnissen, die als Erinnerung aufbewahrt werden. So wie die Tagebuchserie über das Boom-Festival.

Die Menschen gehen ans Boom, und finden im Internet wieder zusammen. So bekam ich folgende wunderbare Rückmeldung; und jetzt, wo ich die Boom-Tagebucheinträge und den Spick-Artikel übers Tagebuchschreiben nebeneinander lege, wird mir klar: Ich habe ein Tagebuch.

It had all components I find great in a diary and it kept me in excited reading it until the end. People don’t do this often, they just share photos in facebook and that’s that! Most wont bother, unless they have sheer pleasure in writing. Doing it means self-development, it is some sort of labor work, like making a dream diary (I do one, but written by hand!). World consumption culture is aligned with writing and yet it is not as well. A great percentage of livejournals were superseded by facebook.

Nein – diese fuckingidiotengopferdammiarschlochhurensohnfacebook-Scheisse vernichtet Tagebücher!! Sie lässt die Leute nicht mehr über sich selbst nachdenken und beschäftigt sie mit sinnlosem Genichtsnutz. Wenn man sie fragt, was sie eigentlich so tun die ganze Zeit – „hmm, eigentlich nichts. Gefällt mir.“

Kein Tagebuch schreiben. Lieber schnell huschhusch ein Foto in dieses Fickbuch hochladen, teilen mit allen, gefällt mir, bumm ist die Luft duss. Wo bleibt der Tiefgang?

In der Welt da draussen. Wo es nur nach Quartalsabschlüssen tönt. Da frage ich mich oft, was das, was ich tue, für einen Wert hat. Jetzt habe ich eine Rückmeldung von einem Stranger erhalten. Tagebuchschreiben hat etwas mit Persönlichkeitsentwicklung zu tun.

These diaries are an attempt to map the unchartered regions that experience has given rise to in one’s life in transformative moments, describing the atmosphere and the setting, as well as the interactive details around one’s perceptions when such ‚initiations‘ and profound insights are taking place. These moments when the „peeling“ of the ’sensory deprivation layers‘ of current reality occurs, unblock the wall of „LIFE“ that had been formerly restricted. I know this makes sense to you because we see the world in similar ways. Beautiful.

Jetzt geht mir ein Licht auf. Tagebücher sind ganz individuelle, emotionale Artefakte des Menschen. Und ich tue das für mich. Für mich – allein. Ob das die Welt verändert, weiss ich nicht. Ich mach einfach mal. Mal schauen, was dann explodiert.
Es gibt hier keine Werbung. Und keine Google Analytics und so Gugus. Sondern Netzkultur. Erlebnisse. Experimente. Tiefgang. Aufmüpfig losrasseln und Rebellentum.

Ich wünschte mir mehr davon.

The Moment of Silence ist ein Adventure aus dem Jahr 2004. Es handelt sich um einen Science-Fiction-Thriller. Die Geschichte entwirft ein düsteres, im Jahr 2044 angesiedeltes Zukunftsszenario, das an einen Überwachungsstaat, etwa wie in George Orwells 1984, erinnert.

Die in The Moment of Silence entworfene Dystopie eines elektronischen Überwachungsstaates bezieht ihre Überzeugungskraft vor allem aus der schlüssigen Zuspitzung von bekannten, geplanten oder denkbaren Entwicklungen informationeller Kontrolle. Digitalisierungspflicht für Bücher und Aufzeichnungen, Verbot von Verschlüsselungstechniken, Abschaffung der Handschrift und des Bargeldes sowie Verschmelzung von Identifizierungs-, Kommunikations-, Navigations- und Zahlungsfunktionen in einem jederzeit ortbaren und pflichtweise mitzuführenden Gerät (iPhone „Messenger“) machen die Überwachung lückenlos.

Viele der im Spiel angesprochenen Technologien gibt es so oder in leicht abgewandelter Form auch in der Realität, wie etwa das Spionagenetz Echelon. Durch die Einbeziehung von populären Verschwörungstheorien und Mythen (UFO-Erscheinungen stellen sich als staatliche Überwachungsdrohnen heraus, Forschungsprogramme und Lauscheinrichtungen wie das SETI-Institut sind geheimer Teil des Abhörapparats) verdichtet sich die Fiktion eines allgegenwärtigen Staates. Zahlreiche weitere im Spiel dargestellte technische Entwicklungen, beispielsweise der von der NASA diskutierte Weltraumlift (Space Elevator) oder das SATCAR, ein fahrerloses Transportfahrzeug für den öffentlichen Individualverkehr, sind aus realen Konzeptstudien entlehnt.

Der insgesamt sozialkritische, technologieskeptische und politische Subtext des Spiels kommt in vielen, teils humorvollen, (populär-)kulturellen Versatzstücken, Zitaten und Anspielungen, aber auch in vertieften, ernsten Dialogen und zahlreichen dramatischen Filmsequenzen zum Ausdruck.

Einen direkten Hinweis und Bezug auf historische technologiekritische beziehungsweise -feindliche Bewegungen liefert das Spiel mit der Thematisierung von „Neo-Ludditen“, einer fiktiven futuristischen Fortentwicklung der Ludditen-Bewegung Großbritanniens (Luddismus), deren subversive Tätigkeit gegen den Überwachungsstaat einer der Dreh- und Angelpunkte der Hintergrundgeschichte ist.

Alle Unix-Tools, welche die Speicherplatzsituation (RAM) des Systems ausweisen, zeigen nach einer gewissen Laufzeit beim freien Speicher nur noch Bruchteile des gesamten verfügbaren Speichers an – auch wenn die laufenden Prozesse in Wirklichkeit gar nicht so viel Speicher benötigen und eigentlich viel mehr freier Speicher vorhanden ist.

Warum ist das so?

Linux hält alle Daten, die es mal von der Festplatte gelesen hat, im RAM auf Abruf bereit. Diese Daten – genannt «disk cache» – sind eigentlich freier Speicher, welcher freigegeben wird, sobald ein Programm ihn benötigt.

Leider verfälscht das die Anzeige des gesamthaft freien Speichers unter Linux.

Das Java-Geschwür gibt sich wie immer allergrösste Mühe, alle verfügbaren Systemressourcen für sich zu beanspruchen. Aber sein Speicher wurde auf 4 GB limitiert. Trotzdem zeigt top an, dass von den 12 GB Memory nur noch etwa 400 MB frei sind.

Abhilfe

Alle aktiven Prozesse auflisten, und deren effektiven Speicherverbrauch zusammenzählen.

Das Kommando ps auxc listet alle aktiven Prozesse auf. Darunter auch die Spalte RSS – Resident set size, the non-swapped physical memory that a task has used (in Kilobytes)

Neulich am Easterhegg musste ich mich entscheiden, ob ich den Sonntag Abend dort verbringe, oder an eine Party gehe wo ein Kollege von mir geladen war. Ich entschied mich noch den Vortrag über Datenschutz und Vorratsdatenspeicherung in der Schweiz anzuhören und danach machte ich mich auf den Weg.

Die Party selbst war nicht so mein Ding, da ich kaum ein konstruktives Gespräch führen konnte und den Eindruck nicht los wurde, dass dies irgendwie nicht meine Leute sind. In der nähe fiel mir eine Person auf, welche gerade eine Zigarette rauchte und auf mich ebenfalls nicht den Eindruck weckte, als würde sie sich wie die Mehrheit der Masse im getummel der Party bewegen. Aufgrund meines Eintritts-Batches von der Easterhegg wurde in ein Gespräch verwickelt  und die Person stellte sich mir als Künstler vor.

Sag mal, was ist das für ein Batch den du da trägst?

Achso, hat nichts mit dieser Party hier zu tun. Ich komme direkt vom Easterhegg, einer Veranstaltung und Plattform für Technik- und Computerbegeisterte Leute.

Ja,  Chaos Computer Club sagt mir etwas. Hätte ich jetzt nicht gedacht, du siehtst irgendwie gar nicht aus wie einer von denen… 😀

Ich musste schmunzeln. In Gedanken hatte ich ein Bild und dachte: Diesen zwei würde man es sofort ansehen! Aber so Nerdig sehe ich halt nun mal nicht aus 😉

Also antworte ich, dass ich mich für IT Sicherheit interessiere und zuvor noch nie an einer  Veranstaltung des CCC war. Wenn das ganze schon mal in der Gegend ist, wäre es ja schade nicht dabei zu sein!

Danach fragte er mich, ob mir TRON ein Begriff sei.

Ja klar, ich habe seine Geschichte ein wenig verfolgt und auch das Buch über seine Lebensgeschichte gelesen, welches ich aber nur noch in einem Antiquariat fand.

Er kenne TRON aus Offenbarung 23, einer packenden Hörspielserie. (Dazu später…)

Es entwickelte sich ein Dialog wilder Verschwörungstheorien rund um den Mythos Tron.
