Wenn alle Telefone tot sind, das Internet ausfällt und nichts mehr geht; dann bleibt nur noch eine Möglichkeit, wie Menschen über weite Entfernungen in Kontakt bleiben können: Amateurfunk. Immer wieder bin ich daraufgestossen, immer wieder hat mich die Amateurfunkprüfung mit ihren Formeln und Elektrotechnik abgeschreckt. Bis im letzten Hackerfunk Podcast das Thema nochmals aufgegriffen wurde.

Der Amateurfunk ist ein weltumspannender Funkdienst und ignoriert Unterschiede in der Rasse, dem Stand und in der politischen Weltanschauung. Er trägt daher viel zur Völkerverständigung bei.

Ein direkter Kontakt zu Menschen aus aller Welt und in Krisengebieten, ohne Vermittler, Provider oder Nachrichtensprecher dazwischen? Kulturüberbrückende Kommunikation, welche die Ländergrenzen aufhebt und uns wieder als Menschheit wahrnehmen lässt? Spätestens jetzt blinkt bei mir ein grünes Lämpchen.

Der Boom Bus fährt uns direkt aufs Festivalgelände.

Es ist schon sehr spät in der Nacht, als ich ankomme. Diesmal sind eine ganze Gruppe an Freunden und Bekannten dabei. Wo sie wohl ihr Camp aufgestellt haben? Es stellt sich raus, dass sich ihr Camp etwa 30 Meter neben meinem Platz vom letzten Boom befindet 🙂

Was hat geändert im Vergleich zum letzten Jahr, was blieb gleich? Mir fällt der Strand auf: Statt Sand ist er mit Gras überwachsen. Neben der grossen Infowand für allerhand Nachrichten stehen diesmal auch weisse Wände frei zum bemalen bereit. Der Elefant als Lehmfigur war letztes mal auch schon da, doch es kamen viele weitere dazu, wie ein Drache oder ein Einhorn. Auch gibt es neue bewegte Skulpturen wie rotierende Skelette, oder Installationen, die an H.R. Giger angelehnt sind.

Der Tag 0 ist ein Erkundungstag. Fast nirgendwo läuft Musik, wir baden im See. Jubelwellen strömen über den Strand. Endlich Wärme und Sonne! Hier spielen Leute mit Hunden, dort liest jemand ein Buch am Strand. Die Energy Balls schmecken köstlich; eine Art Birchermüesli in Kugelform. Die 3rd-Eye Galerie vom letzten Jahr hat sich diesmal zu einem Drachen gemausert. Wir werden dessen Innenleben in der Nacht noch separat bewundern. Fast überall sind Hängematten aufgespannt, die Liminal Village hat Tontöpfe bekommen, in die man sich reinsetzen kann.

I’m not telling you what to do. I’m not telling you what to believe in. It’s okay if you hate me. It’s okay if you disagree with me. It’s okay for everybody to look at this, because we have to decide how we feel.

We have to stop thinking that what’s on the news is the gospel truth, or what an official says behind the podium is exactly the right answer, or what I say is something that you can rely on. I could be totally full of shit.

You’ve got to figure out what you believe in, and stand for it. You have to stand for it.

Whether I’m a good guy or whether I’m a bad guy, whether I’m a hero or whether I’m a traitor — none of that matters.

Criticize me. Hate me. But think about what matters in the issues.

Think about the world you want to live in — and then be a part of building that.

Und mit dieser Ansage schafft es Edward Snowden in meine Heldengalerie. Damit möchte ich nicht mit der Masse mitschwimmen und ihn als „Held“ bezeichnen; vielmehr ist es -- wie bei allen anderen Vorbildern auch -- seine Art zu sein und zu handeln, die mich inspiriert. Er hat Moral und Werte, und er steht dafür ein -- wider der Risiken.

In diesem Licht sehen die Ereignisse von damals anders aus. Es ist tröstlich zu sehen, dass ich aus demselben Holz geschnitzt bin wie Edward Snowden. Auch ich ging Risiken ein, habe die Grenze übertreten, mich gegen Autoritäten aufgelehnt, als meine Meinungsfreiheit bedroht wurde -- und dann meinen Job verloren. Ich stehe für meine Werte und für das, woran ich glaube, ein.

Snowdens Rede inspiriert mich, meinen Weg weiterzugehen. Meinen eigenen Weg. Und euch damit mächtig auf den Sack zu gehen, oder vielleicht sogar ins Gefängnis. Aber es spielt keine Rolle wie ihr darüber denkt. Kritisiert mich. Hasst mich. Ich denke darüber nach, in welcher Welt ich leben will -- und helfe mit, sie zu bauen.

Ein Festival der Künste, das aber zugleich auch eine Denkfabrik und ein Spielplatz für Querdenker ist, mit dem gezeigt wird, wie Dinge auch anders angegangen werden können. Umweltbewusstsein und Zusammenleben – in kleinem Rahmen ausprobiert und einer breiten Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht. Die Besucher werden ermutigt, sich ins Festival einzubringen, sei dies mit künstlerischen Darbietungen, Workshops, Vorträgen, als Helfer beim Aufbau der Organisation. Das Openair zeigt, wie es auch anders geht, soll die Besucher inspirieren und ermutigen, die Zukunft in die eigenen Hände zu nehmen. Das Openair wiederspiegelt viele Tugenden: Einen nachhaltigen Lebensstil, Einklang mit der Natur, Zusammenbringen von Kulturen, Respekt und Toleranz, Eigeninitiative, Improvisation, Zufriedenheit und Lebensfreude.
