They say that magic is dead. It’s a convenient fiction, is magic — a quaint artifact of a history that never existed, a fairy tale. Unicorns and dragons, magi? Swords and ancient tomes are all just children’s stories. Nobody believes in any of it. But we’re giving that the lie right now as we step through this wall… like so… ah, and those flatfoots on the other side will have no idea where we’ve gone.
Go ahead and sit down a moment; you’ll need to absorb what I’m saying, and I need to catch my breath. No, don’t pick up that board. I’m not going to kill you or ensorcel you or eat your flesh or any of that crap. So shut up and listen, or you’ll have a very short life in the next few minutes, and not because of me.

Letztes Jahr war mein Thema „Bewusstsein“.
Es kristallisiert sich heraus: das Thema dieses Jahr heisst „Magie“.

Warum? Die Ereignisse, die aus dem vergangenen Jahr hervorgingen, haben dazu geführt. Und ich bin gestern über ein oberhammergeileskrasses Etwas gestossen. 😀

Ein „Pen & Paper“ Rollenspiel. Zwar weiss ich nicht so genau, was das ist, und kann das ,Spiel‘ darin noch nicht erkennen – es hat zwar Regeln und so – aber momentan ist es für mich einfach eine Sammlung Bücher, die eine Welt beschreiben.

Mage: The Ascension

Es spielt in der realen Welt (also nicht in einer frei erfundenen), in welche Magie eingefügt wird. Man lernt also auch über Geographie, Politik und Wirtschaft der realen Welt (in der Dark Ages Reihe über die Geschichte – Mittelalter), und die Macher orientierten sich bei der Magie an vielen Systemen und Science Fiction. So gibt es 2 rivalisierende Seiten: Die Traditionen und die Technokraten.

Die Traditionen beschreiben wunderbar 9 verschiedene magische Wege und Ansichten, die sich an real existierenden orientieren. So fand ich im Order of Hermes beinahe 1:1 die Ansichten des Golden Dawn (Hermetik) vertreten, sogar die Bezeichnungen der Ränge sind die selben.

• Die Akashic Brotherhood beschreibt die Shaolin und den Buddhismus
• Die Dreamspeaker beschreiben die Schamanen
• Die Euthanatoi sind an Thelemiten angelehnt
• Die Verbena Tradition entspricht der Wicca-Bewegung
• etc.

In der Tat habe ich in den Regelbüchern der einzelnen Traditionen sehr vieles gefunden, was auf die realen Vorbilder vollkommen zutrifft. (Quelle)

Die Spieler stellen Personen dar, die „erwacht“ sind – also eine kosmische Einsicht erlangt haben – und nun die Welt in gewisser Weise manipulieren können. Dies kann sowohl mit mystischen als auch mit technologischen Mitteln geschehen, so dass neben Magie auch Lasergewehre vorkommen können.

Mage: The Ascension geht davon aus, dass die Realität veränderbar ist, sie beugt sich dem Glauben aller Menschen.

Konsensus, Schläfer und Erwachte

Was Menschen in einer Umgebung für richtig und logisch halten, gilt lokal als Realität und wird als lokaler Konsensus bezeichnet. Glauben z. B. die Menschen auf Haiti an Zombies, so existieren diese. Glaubten die Menschen im Mittelalter an die Existenz von Drachen, so gab es Drachen. Heute glaubt niemand mehr, dass es Drachen gibt, also sind sie ausgestorben (bzw. leben nur noch in speziellen Umbra Reichen). Die Realität ist also eine Lüge, welche die Menschheit sich selbst erzählt. Einige Menschen jedoch erwachen aus dieser selbstauferlegten Apathie und erlangen die Fähigkeit, der Realität ihren Willen aufzuzwingen. Diese Menschen könnte man als Magier bezeichnen, sie selbst nennen sich Mages. (Quelle)

Der Hammer, nicht? Mir kommt diese Spielwelt realer vor als unsere echte Welt. Da stecken soo viel Wahrheiten drin, dass ich das unmöglich nur in einem Beitrag abhandeln kann; deshalb gibt es die neue Kategorie „Magie & Mystik“.
