Das Familienunternehmen Dubler produziert seit 1946 unter dem Namen «Mohrenkopf» Süssigkeiten in Waltenschwil AG. Während andere Anbieter auf Namen wie Schokoküsse oder Schaumküsse umschwenkten, blieb die Firma dabei. Immer wieder gab es Proteste dagegen, weil der Namen rassistisch sei.
Im Zuge der aktuellen Proteste nach dem Tod des Afroamerikaners George Floyd hat nun die Migros-Genossenschaft Zürich das Dubler-Produkt aus dem Regal genommen. Jetzt reagiert Firmeninhaber Robert Dubler auf den Entscheid.
Herr Dubler, die Migros-Genossenschaft Zürich nimmt ihre Süssigkeit mit dem Namen «Mohrenkopf» aus dem Regal. Wie finden Sie das?
Robert Dubler: Wenn der Mohrenkopf ein so grosses Problem ist, dann haben wir etwas viel wichtigeres vergessen. Ich schaue nach Afrika und sehe einen Kontinent mit den meisten Bodenschätzen, der aber arm ist, weil wir Afrika täglich bescheissen. Alles was schlecht ist, haben wir gemacht. Das geht Hunderte Jahre zurück. Und jetzt haben wir die gottlose Einbildung, dass das Problem gelöst wird, wenn ich den Namen des Mohrenkopfes ändere. Das ist doch daneben.
Es mag sein, dass es grössere Probleme gibt, aber viele Menschen stören sich ab der Bezeichnung «Mohrenkopf». Menschen mit dunkler Hautfarbe fühlen sich herabgesetzt.
Das sehe ich nicht so. Im Zusammenhang, wie ich das Wort benutze, ist es positiv. Ich mache etwas, von dem ich das Gefühl habe, das es sehr gut ist. Der Mohrenkopf ist qualitativ hochstehend. Dafür benutze ich doch keinen zweitklassigen Namen.
Auf Schulhausplätzen werden dunkelhäutige Schüler als «Mohrenköpfe» gehänselt. Was denken Sie darüber?
Man kann doch die Süssigkeit nicht dafür verantwortlich machen, wenn die Menschen einander plagen. Wenn die Kinder auf dem Schulhof nicht mehr «Mohrenkopf» sagen, dann sagen sie halt «Schoggikopf». Eine Namensänderung unseres Mohrenkopfes ändert doch da nichts.
Ihnen liegt Afrika am Herzen, wie Sie sagen. Was tun Sie denn gegen das grössere Problem: die Ausbeutung Afrikas.
Ich kaufe seit 25 Jahren beim gleichen Händler ein, von dem ich den Eindruck habe, dass er für den Kakao einen einigermassen anständigen Preis bezahlt. Leider ist aber ein wirklich fairer Handel gar nicht möglich im aktuellen Kapitalismus. Da helfen auch die so genannten Fair-Trade-Labels nichts. Leider überlebt nicht der, der die fairsten Löhne und Preise bezahlt, sondern der, der am meisten Profit macht. Schauen Sie doch die Migros an, die jetzt meine Mohrenköpfe verbannt. Die bezahlen den Bauern auch keine anständigen Preise für Milch und Gemüse.
Aber Sie können ja schon bestimmen, mit welchen Produkten Sie produzieren.
Das tue ich auch. Ich kaufe zum Beispiel nur Eier aus Freilandhaltung. Leider fällt meine kleine Fabrik aber nicht ins Gewicht mit den vier Millionen Umsatz, die ich mache. In dem Rahmen, wo es möglich ist, versuche ich fair zu sein.
Warum halten Sie an dem Namen «Mohrenkopf» fest, wo es doch so einfach wäre, das zu ändern und Ihr Produkt ja immer noch gut wäre.
Schauen Sie. Es stört mich nicht, wenn der Mohrenkopf Diskussionen auslöst. Ich finde es gut, wenn über Rassismus diskutiert wird. Die Welt wird aber nicht weniger rassistisch, wenn ich den Namen ändere.
Migros verkauft in Zürich nun Ihre Produkte nicht mehr. Tut Ihnen das wirtschaftlich weh?
Nein. Letztes Jahr haben wir rund zehn Millionen Mohrenköpfe verkauft. Die Hälfte davon über den eigenen Laden. Eigentlich dürfte ich meine Produkte gar nicht in Migros oder Coop verkaufen, weil ich die Produktion nicht nach den Massstäben der Grossverteiler zertifizieren lasse. Nun bestellt die Migros halt nicht mehr. Auch gut.
Sie wehren sich gegen den Rassismusvorwurf. Nun wird der «Mohrenkopf» aber auch von Leuten verteidigt, die eben etwas gegen Fremde haben. Was denken Sie darüber?
Ja, die gibt es. Ich höre Ihre Sprüche auch manchmal in unserem Laden. Aber dann widerspreche ich. Leider kann man es sich nicht aussuchen, wer einen unterstützt. Aber das heisst nicht, dass ich gleicher Meinung wäre, wie diese rassistischen Leute.
Sie sagen, «Mohrenkopf» sei nicht rassistisch. Aber wäre es nicht eine Idee, aus Solidarität mit den Menschen, welche die Bezeichnung als rassistisch empfinden, den Namen zu ändern?
Nein, wenn ich den Namen ändere, mache ich mehr Leute wütend, als glücklich. Sehen Sie, ich habe einen Verwandten mit dunkler Hautfarbe. Ihn stört die Bezeichnung «Mohrenkopf» überhaupt nicht. Und wer sagt, wir seien Rassisten, soll halt mal hier in den Betrieb kommen. Dann sieht er, dass das nicht stimmt.
Die Auswirkungen der Debatte
Eine lange Schlange hatte sich auch schon am Donnerstag vor dem Fabrikladen gebildet. Der Andrang sei riesig, berichtet ein Besucher: «Da hat es Autos aus allen Kantonen! Aus Schaffhausen, Solothurn, Thurgau, Zürich – von überallher sind die Leute gekommen und finden fast keine Parkplätze.»
Begehrt sind vor allem die «Mohrenköpfe» der Firma. Er selbst habe gleich zwei Packungen à 50 Stück gekauft. Dazu noch ein T-Shirt mit dem Logo von Dubler. Dafür habe er eine halbe Stunde anstehen müssen. Das sei es aber wert gewesen: «Ich mache das aus Solidarität», so der Besucher.

«Will nicht wachsen»
Dubler ist überzeugt: Wer einmal in einen Mohrenkopf frisch ab Produktion gebissen hat, findet den nicht mehr gut, der wochenlang im Verkaufsregal gestanden hat. Scheint zu stimmen: Alle paar Minuten biegt ein Auto auf den Fabrikparkplatz ein, um sich kistenweise Mohrenköpfe abzuholen. Die Hälfte seiner Produktion von wöchentlich 200’000 Mohrenköpfen verkauft Dubler direkt ab Fabrik.
Die andere Hälfte liefert er an Beizen, Kioske, auch an Volg oder Spar. Aber – solange es kein Zwischenhändler tut – nicht an Migros und Coop, wo die Konkurrenz-Produkte Schaumküsse oder Choco-Köpfli heissen. «Mit diesen Namen ist niemandem geholfen», schimpft Dubler die politische Korrektheit.
