Der 36. Chaos Communication Congress hat das Motto „Resource exhaustion“. Und genau so fühle ich mich nach diesem Kongress. Erschöpft. Ausgelaugt. Müde.

Das war der anstrengendste Kongress überhaupt, wenn nicht sogar mein Schlechtester. Keine besonderen Highlights, überall läuft alles, aber hingezogen fühle ich mich zu nichts. Zu viele Menschen, aber zu wenig bekannte Gesichter. Die lieben Bekanntschaften vom vergangenen Camp sind nicht da. Joscha Bach ist nicht da. Das Boot von vor einem Jahr ist jetzt ein fahrendes Bällebad; aber zu einer stimmungsvollen Fahrt wie damals ist es nicht gekommen. Dieses Feuerwerk ist abgebrannt, auch wenn mich viele Installationen noch gerne daran erinnern.

E_TOO_MANY_ANGELS

Jedesmal, wenn ich mich im Engelsystem eingeloggt habe, sah es so aus:

Schichten: eigener Engeltyp; Räume: alle; Datum: jetzt bis zum Kongressende.

Alles ausgebucht. E_TOO_MANY_ANGELS. Dabei wollte ich doch auch noch ein wenig engeln. Wir alle wissen, wie bereichernd das ist. Aber es gab zu viele Helfer, alle Schichten sind voll. Ich habe gehört, dass viele Engel ihre Stunden bloss scheffeln, damit sie im nächsten Jahr auf sicher ein Ticket kriegen. Das ist rücksichtslos gegenüber allen anderen, die auch gerne mithelfen würden; und zwar nicht nur als Türsteher von 2 Uhr bis 8 Uhr Morgens oder als Standby-Angel im Himmel. Der Saal Dijkstra war zur Hälfte gefüllt, nur mit Videoengeln. Ich erinnere mich noch an das mittelgrosse Klassenzimmer in Hamburg, wo sie hinten an der Wand gestanden sind. Aber das war die Einführungsveranstaltung für alle Engel. Jetzt sitzen nur Videoengel im Saal und deren Anzahl ist gefühlt doppelt so gross wie die Anzahl Gesamtengel in Hamburg damals.
Hier bräuchte es einen technischen Riegel; ein Fair Queuing oder Scheduling. Oder schafft das mit dem „Ticket auf sicher für Engel“ ab.

Sensory overload

Die Hallen sind riesig, überall blinkt und wuselt es. Alles ist zerstreut. Ob ich was verpasse, wenn ich mich hier hinsetze? Gemütliche, ruhige Ecken, wo man sich hinsetzen kann, gibt es fast keine, weil überall bestimmt noch eine Bühne oder Lautsprecher danebenstehen. Der Teich im CCL wäre so ein Ruheort. Farbiges Licht, das aber nicht blinkt; Sofas, und höchstens Weltraumbahnhofmusik in Zimmerlautstärke. Lichtspiele auf dem Wasser und der Teich als Mittelpunkt vom Raum, wo man sich und seine Gedanken darin versinken kann. Stattdessen steht auch dort daneben ein DJ-Pult und mindestens 3 Beamer, die die Wand nervös anstrahlen. Alles muss immer und überall tönen, blinken und buzzern. Selbst bei den Essständen noch ein Knopf, wo man draufhauen kann und dann „Baozi, Falleri und Fallera“ neben dem Esstisch ein zufälliges Sprüchlein lautsprechert. Der einzig gemütliche Ort ist die Wikipaka-WG. Abgetrennte Bereiche, Sofas, eine kleine Bühne, Bücherregale; alles wirklich schön und wohnlich eingerichtet. Aber dort sässe ich allein. Klar, ich könnte auch zum Schweizer Assembly; zu den Leuten, die ich kenne. Aber dort sind die Tische lang und viele, und die Nerds sitzen wie Batteriehühner vor ihren Bildschirmen, in ihre eigenen Themen und Projekte versunken. Dort lade ich am Morgen meine Jacke ab, und am Abend bin ich viel zu müde, um in einer Gesprächsrunde teilzunehmen, die dann stattfindet, wenn zu dieser späten Stunde alles ruhiger geworden ist. Ich habe also die Wahl zwischen bekannten Leuten in einer ungemütlichen Umgebung, oder einer gemütlichen Wikipaka-WG, wo ich niemanden kenne; und alle Schichten im Engelsystem sind voll. Der Kongress ist grösser und anonymer geworden, man findet sich nicht mehr so leicht. Ich habe zwei Menschen, die ich kenne, nie getroffen, obwohl sie auch hier sind. Es sind mehr Leute am Kongress, aber ich fühle mich einsamer als Zuhause. Derart mit einem Kloss im Hals neben dem Baozi-Buzzer sitzend bringe ich das chinesische Hefeteiggebäck nur ganz langsam herunter.

So kurz vor einem Zusammenbruch denke ich ernsthaft darüber nach, ins C3auti einzusteigen und loszufahren. Ich will einfach nur noch weg hier. Ja, es gibt die Ruhezone – aber das ist ein dunkles Restaurant, wo alle einfach nur dasitzen und ihre Ruhe brauchen. Kein farbiges Licht, keine Sofas. Alles hochsteril.

Das vertraute Gesicht einer Person, die ich schon lange nicht mehr gesehen habe, läuft mir über den Weg und lädt mich ein, doch ein wenig mit ihr und ihrer Begleitung durch den Kongress zu schlendern. Meine Wolken verfliegen, wir setzen uns am Teich nieder und plaudern zu dritt über Fotografie und unsere neuen Kameras. Gerettet!

Die Highlights

8 Engel laufen im Kreis um eine verschüttete Flüssigkeit und halten ein Absperrband hoch. „Geil!“ denke ich mir und muss da gleich mitmachen. Bestimmt hiess es im Himmel, dass 8 Engel diesen Bereich absperren müssen, und warum nicht gleich rundherum laufen? Es artet aus in „links, zwo, drei vier, links, zwo, drei, vier, RICHTUNGSWECHSEL! – zwo, drei, vier.“ Jetzt rückwärts, jetzt wieder in die andere Richtung. Ein Gaudi! Genau solchen Bullshit habe ich an diesem Kongress noch viel zu wenig erlebt. 8 Engel tanzen mit Absperrband um eine Lache herum. Nun kommen zwei Putzengel. Wir tanzen weiter und halten den Bereich abgesperrt, damit sie ihre Arbeit erledigen können. Jetzt ist der Fleck geputzt, der Boden rein. Die spontane Tanzgruppe löst sich nach 20 Minuten wieder auf, zurück bleiben ich und eine Kongressfreundschaft, die ich nur einmal im Jahr sehe.

Sie lädt mich ein auf „eine Mission“. Und zwar wurde sie vom Gummibärchen Operation Center angeheuert, Gummibären, Licht und Liebe an die Kongressteilnehmer zu verteilen, ohne dass diese etwas dafür tun müssen. Wir montieren den Verteilkorb an ihr Trottinett; Kabelbinder hab ich dabei, ein Schweizer Taschenmesser auch. Auf geht’s!

Die Vorträge von iblech über unendlich grosse Zahlen und die grösste Zahl, den Cosmic Call, das P vs NP Problem, Fraktale und imaginäre Zahlen – alles Self Organized Sessions, die nicht aufgezeichnet werden. Deswegen war mein Schwerpunkt an diesem Kongress Ingo’s Vorträge. „Imaginäre Zahlen sind cool!“ stellt ein 10-jähriger am Ende eines Vortrags begeistert fest. Ja, Ingo weiss, höhere Mathematik sogar Kindern anschaulich und spannend zu vermitteln.

In der Wikipaka-WG stosse ich zufällig dazu, als gerade eine tolle Quizshow stattfindet: Gefragt – Gejagt. Ein Haufen junger Nerds hat das selber programmiert, und manchmal funktioniert noch nicht alles so, wie es sollte. Hier steht mal „undefined“ als ausgefüllte Antwort, da stellt das Handy die Antwortknöpfe dank Bootstrap übereinander dar. Fällt das WLAN aus, ziehen sie ein LAN-Kabel wäscheleinemässig zur Bühne, und als die Moderatorin fragt: „Wenn der Rechner rummotzt, dass der Akkustand niedrig ist – ist das relevant, oder…?“ schnellt die gesamte Tischreihe Techies wie von einer Wespe gestochen hoch und stürmt mit Netzteilen bewaffnet zum Laptop der Moderatorin. Und natürlich wird die Jeopardy-Wartemusik via VLC eingespielt und klar kann man das auf dem Video dann auch sehen. Es wuselt und schwirrt wie ein wilder Ameisenhaufen. Ein Gaudi, nur schon da zuzusehen. Es sind die Pannen, die CCC-Quizshows so unterhaltsam machen. Aber diese Jungs machen es richtig gut und rocken souverän durch; stemmen und live-patchen das Ding, bis die Show letztendlich funktioniert. Grossartig!

Vor Kongressende findet sich eine Handvoll Menschen zu einem Improtheater ein. „Mmh hmm macht der Blattfrosch und guckt sich um, mmh hmm macht der Blattfrosch und guckt“ – ein Kinderlied zur Einstimmung, und um die Gesichtsmuskeln lockern. Der 3-köpfige Professor stellt eine Erfindung vor; wobei jeder Kopf eine andere Person ist, und jeder Kopf darf nur ein Wort sagen. So kommen lustige Erfindungen zustande. Mein Unterwasser-U-Boot mit Hyperraumantrieb wirft zurecht am Schluss die Frage auf, ob es denn auch Überwasser-U-Boote gibt? Eine Szene später sind wir zu zweit in einem Wartezimmer. Jeder soll sich einen Tick ausdenken, damit der andere weiss, wann er reden muss. Denn: Jeweils das Gegenüber redet für den Partner. Nach langem Überlegen entscheide ich mich für „wild gestikulieren“. Mein Partner hat sich einen Tick überlegt, bei dem er sich jedesmal an die Stirn fasst, wenn er fertig ist mit reden. Gespannt, weil weder die Zuschauer noch wir wissen, was jetzt gespielt wird, fange ich an, zu gestikulieren, um meinem Partner die ersten Worte zu entlocken. „Ach ich bin so glücklich, wenn ich aus dem Fenster schaue!“ – folgerichtig mache ich die passende Mimik dazu. Nun bin ich an der Reihe. „Was ist das für ein Typ neben mir – ist so grundlos glücklich, indem er einfach nur aus dem Fenster schaut?“ – und klatsch, landet die Hand auf seiner Stirn und formt eine Gesichtspalme. Ich steige voll darauf ein und dopple gleich nach: „Ich meine klar, wir sind hier im Wartezimmer einer Psychiatrie, aber der Typ? Kaum zu fassen!“ – klatsch, Gesichtspalme. Das Publikum vertätschts vor Lachen. „Das war richtig gut“ lobt uns ein Mädchen, als wir fertig sind. Eine Szene weiter stellen ein paar Stühle ein Taxi dar, und jeder darf dazukommen, wie er grad will. Natürlich wandert das Steuerrad auch mal nach Rechts und wir finden uns im englischen Strassenverkehr wieder. Der Marsmensch hat sich via Schleudersitz aus dem Taxi katapultiert, und ich lege meinen Pullover über die Schulter und „seid ihr Anhalter, kann ich mitfahren? Hier ist mein Handtuch. Ich muss ans andere Ende der Galaxis!“

Mathevorlesungen, Fotografie, Videokameraengel. Edu-Stammtisch, um über Bildung zu sprechen. Improtheater. Manchmal frage ich mich, ob ich mich überhaupt noch für Computer interessiere. Mein Laptop war die meiste Zeit zu, im Rucksack verstaut. Vielleicht heisst es deswegen „Chaos Communication Congress“ und nicht „Chaos Computer Congress“.
