„Psytrance“. Was ist das überhaupt?
Vier Produzenten demonstrieren das mit einem Synthesizer, Logic Pro und ihrem Erfahrungsschatz.
Psytrance ist elektronische Musik. Komplett künstlich erzeugt. Wie funktioniert das?
Das Grundelement der Musik ist Schwingung. Also brauchen wir etwas, das schwingt: Ein Oszillator! Der erzeugt die vier Grundwellenformen: Sinus, Rechteck, Dreieck und Sägezahn.
Wenn wir jetzt Filter und Oszillatoren auf diese Schwingungen anwenden, entstehen daraus Töne, Modulationen, Verzierungen und Rhythmen.
So geht das immer weiter, bis wir beim Klang des gewünschten Instruments angekommen sind. Wie tönt ein Cymbal? Wie eine Snare? Was macht einen guten Kick aus?
In diesem Prozess auf der Suche nach dem gewünschten Klang fallen etliche „Unfallgeräusche“ und Nebenprodukte heraus -- Zischen, Fiepen, Lasern, Spratzeln -- was dann alles für die Melodie im Song verwendet wird.
Martian Arts erklärt uns das mit einem echten, analogen Synthesizer. Hier steckt er eine Kabelbrücke rein, dort überbrückt er einen Steckplatz, während er erklärt: „Es ist alles ganz simpel: Ein Oszillator, und eine Hüllkurve. Die Hüllkurve moduliert die Frequenz des Oszillators und wir benutzen eine Sinuswelle für den Kick, weil sie schlicht und schön ist (keine Obertöne).“ Wir können das Ergebnis live mithören. „Da noch ein Wellenfalter, und wenn ich den Tiefpassfilter mit dem LFO über den Eingang schalte, klingt das Signal schon deutlich anders“ erklärt er, während er auf eine Taste drückt und den Klang demonstriert. Ich stehe da und mein Mund wechselt zwischen breitem Grinsen und offenem Kinnladen hin und her. Absolut genial!
