Zahnschonende Kaugummis, die süss schmecken? Glitzernden Kristallzucker nach dem Zähneputzen in den Mund nehmen, um Karies vorzubeugen? Eine süsse Zahnpasta mit Zimtgeschmack?

Manchmal hat die Welt doch noch ein paar Überraschungen parat. Der Birkenzucker (Xylit) ist ein weisses, süsses, kristallines Kohlehydrat. Er unterscheidet sich äußerlich, in der Süsskraft, im Geschmack und in der Anwendung kaum von Haushaltszucker. Anders ist nur die angenehme leichte Kühle, die beim Auflösen im Mund entsteht, und dass er sich nicht zum Karamellisieren eignet (erst ab 200 Grad). Wegen seiner antibakteriellen Wirkung ist der Birkenzucker auch nicht für die Zubereitung von Hefeteig geeignet, da er keinen Nährboden für Pilzarten (Hefe) bietet.

Birkenzucker hilft auch ADHS bei Kindern zu vermeiden. Denn das Gehirn benötigt viel Energie in Form von Glukose, um die Neurotransmitter Dopamin und Serotonin herzustellen und die Übertragungsimpulse der Nerven zu steuern. Diese Energie muss dem Gehirn ständig und vor allem gleichmäßig zur Verfügung stehen. Blutzuckerspitzen, wie sie beim Verzehr von schnell verwertbaren Kohlenhydraten (Zucker, Weißmehl) entstehen, führen aufgrund extremer Insulinausschüttung in der Folge zu Unterzuckerung (Hypoglykämie). Das Gehirn ist unterversorgt, der Gehirnstoffwechsel gestört. Die bekannten Folgen sind Gereiztheit, Nervosität, Jähzorn und nächtliche Schlafstörungen.

Birkenzucker hilft auch viele Beschwerden vermeiden, welche auf Übersäuerung zurückgehen. Eine der Hauptursachen von Übersäuerung ist die Vergärung von zu viel zugeführtem Haushaltszucker. Birkenzucker hingegen wirkt basisch. Er ist der einzige Zucker(-ersatz), der das tut.

Zur Kariesvorbeugung bei Kindern haben sich neben der üblichen Zahnpflege bestens birkenzuckerhaltige Kaugummis oder Lutscher nach den Mahlzeiten bewährt. Spülungen mit einem im Mund aufgelösten Teelöffel Birkenzucker sind nach den Mahlzeiten und insbesondere vor dem Schlafengehen (nach dem Zähneputzen!) grundsätzlich jedem zu empfehlen. Finnische Studien zeigten eine Reduktion von Karies bis zu 85 % bei regelmäßiger Anwendung!

WIE GEIL IST DAS DENN?

Andere putzen ihre Zähne mit Rattengift (Nein, das ist nicht gesund!), ich spüle meinen Mund mit Zuckerwasser und der Karies geht zurück. Yummie!

Probiert mal von der Schokolade, von den feinen Zimtkaugummis und vom Birkenzucker in Reinform. Die Kaugummis schmecken eins A und eignen sich prima, um sich damit nach dem Mittagessen im Geschäft die Zähne zu putzen. Ganz ohne Bürste und so.
