Um Raubkopien zu verhindern, werden elektronische Geräte je länger je mehr mit digitalen Sperren ausgestattet zum Nachteil aller Kunden.
Nach Weihnachten kommt wie immer die Zeit der Schnäppchen. Im Elektronik-Sektor gibt es heuer noch einen zusätzlichen Grund, in Bälde zuzugreifen: Die aktuelle Geräte-Generation könnte nämlich eine der letzten sein, die den Anwendern noch (einigermassen) ungetrübte Freude bereitet.
Denn neue Geräte werden zusehends mit Mechanismen ausgestattet, welche die Nutzung massiv einschränken (siehe Kasten oben). Wenn sich rechtmässig erworbene Musikstücke aber auf gewissen Geräten gar nicht mehr abspielen geschweige denn kopieren lassen, hört der Spass für die meisten Anwender
definitiv auf.
Noch schlimmer war der (inzwischen zurückbuchstabierte) Schritt von Sony BMG, ihre neusten Musik-CDs mit einem Kopierschutz auszustatten, der beim Abspielen der Scheibe auf dem PC heimlich eine Software installiert, die Hackern das Ausspionieren des Rechners ermöglicht.
Dabei war im Grunde genommen alles gut gemeint: Die ursprüngliche Idee war auch bei Sony, die Urheberrechte zu schützen und den Raubkopierern, die stets neue Mittel und Wege fanden, das Hand-werk zu legen. Doch nachdem sich die Musik- und Filmindustrie jahrelang von der technischen Entwicklung (Stichwort Internet) hatte überrollen lassen, reagierte sie schliesslich mit einer Doppelstrategie: Raubkopierer wurden mit Klagen eingedeckt und Gerätehersteller dazu angehalten, das Übel mit technischen Hauruck-Methoden zu verhindern, die längst auch ehrliche Kunden verärgern. Vielleicht so sehr, dass diese bei neuen Geräten mit einem Kaufstreik reagieren.

Massive Restriktionen
Schon heute müssen die Anwender elektronischer Geräte einiges in Kauf nehmen. Hier die (unvollständige) Liste der Einschränkungen:
– Gewisse CDs verweigern das Abspielen auf dem Computer.
– Firmware-Updates der Sony PlayStation sollen verhindern, dass Anwender auf dem Gerät eigene Games spielen können.
– MP3-Player-Software kann das Überspielen von Songs auf einen PC verhindern.
– Microsofts künftiges PC-Betriebssystem Vista kettet Audio- und Video-Files an den Computer.
– Firmen wie Apple binden die Gerätebesitzer an den firmeneigenen Content-Store.
