Could people please not use this list to announce information of no particular interest to the people on the list? Hundreds of thousands of babies are born every day. While the whole phenomenon is menacing, one of them by itself is not newsworthy. Nor is it a difficult achievement–even some fish can do it. (Now, if you were a seahorse, it would be more interesting, since it would be the male that gave birth.)
Following your example, I might send the list an announcement whenever a new GNU program is written. That happens less often than babies are born, it does the world a lot more good, it reflects more conscious creativity and hard work, and some of the readers might actually find the information useful. Even so, I think most of the readers would consider this outside the scope and purpose of the list. Clearly that goes double for babies.
Of course, we have another place for announcements of new GNU programs. If some people like to read birth announcements, perhaps you should set up a suitable list or newsgroup. Perhaps rec.births? (While you’re at it, start rec.deaths for obituaries–they’re usually more interesting to read.)
These birth announcements also spread the myth that having a baby is something to be proud of, which fuels natalist pressure, which leads to pollution, extinction of wildlife, poverty, and ultimately mass starvation.
Perhaps the people who have decided to have no children should start making proud announcements, so as to set a better example. I could start. I’m sure everyone on this list will be glad to know I don’t plan to reproduce myself.

Um deinem Beispiel zu folgen, könnte ich dieser Liste jedesmal eine Ankündigung schreiben, wenn ein neues GNU-Programm geschrieben wird. Das passiert weniger oft als Babies geboren werden; aber es tut der Welt mehr Gutes; es reflektiert mehr bewusste Kreativität und harte Arbeit, und einige der Leser könnten diese Information nützlich finden. Item, ich denke die meisten der Leser sehen diesen fehlenden Kontext und den eigentlichen Zweck der Liste. Das gilt doppelt für Babies.
Natürlich haben wir andere Orte für Ankündigungen von GNU-Programmen. Wenn ihr unbedingt Geburtsanzeigen lesen wollt, dann richtet doch eine entsprechende Liste dafür ein. Vielleicht rec.births? (Wenn ihr schon dabei seid: rec.deaths für Todesanzeigen – die sind normalerweise viel interessanter zu lesen.)
Diese Geburtsanzeigen verbreiten auch den Mythos, dass Kinder haben etwas ist, worauf man stolz sein könne – was den Pronatalismus fördert, und das führt zu mehr Verschmutzung, Aussterben von Wildtieren, Armut und schlussendlich zu einer grossen Hungersnot.
Vielleicht sollten die Menschen, die sich entschieden haben, keine Kinder zu haben, anfangen, das stolz anzukündigen, um ein besseres Beispiel zu geben. Ich könnte damit anfangen. Ich bin sicher, jeder auf dieser Liste würde sich freuen, dass ich nicht plane, mich fortzupflanzen.

Ich versuche gerade, mir die asiatischen Nudeln zwischen die Stäbchen zu klemmen, als mich zwei grosse Kinderaugen anschauen. Ein Mädchen in einem Kindergartendreieck steht neben mir und schaut mich an. Wir sitzen im Zug, auf dem Heimweg von der Revision 2013. „Warum guckt die so?“, denke ich mir. Zwar, es ist nicht das dumme Glotzstarren eines Babies. Vielmehr verbirgt sich hinter den beiden braunen Augen eine kluge Neugier. Eine geheimnisvolle Verbindung. Ich lass das mal gut sein und esse weiter. Sie setzt sich auf den Sitz weiter vorne zu ihrer Familie. Der Zug fährt los.
„Nein, bei dieser Karte darfst du nicht wünschen!“, belehrt sie gerade ihre Mutter. Nachdem die Kleine soeben zweimal gegen ihren Vater gewonnen hat, erklärt sie nun ihrer Mutter die Regeln dieses Kartenspiels. Die beiden spielen eine Zeit lang. Sie schaut mir ab und zu für längere Augenblicke in die Augen. Mir scheint, als ob da unterbewusst Informationen ausgetauscht werden. Eine Verbündete.
Das Spiel ist zuende. Sie schmeisst die Karten hin. „So, und jetzt kannst Du aufräumen, du Kohlkopf!“, meint sie keck zu ihrer Mutter und verlässt den Platz. WAHAHAHA 😀 – ich muss schallend Grinsen. Was für eine freche Rotzgöre. So muss das sein! Gefällt mir sehr. „Paula! Komm sofort zurück!“ Natürlich liess ihre Mutter das nicht auf sich sitzen, und sie winkt das kleine Mädchen mit dem Zeigefinger zurück. „Du räumst das jetzt auf!“ „Gut, aber zusammen.“, meint sie nur. Die Rangordnung ist etwas verzerrt; man sieht eindeutig, wer hier den Ton angibt. I like that. Wir lächeln uns zu. „Gut gemacht, Kleines“, denke ich mir. Was für eine erfrischende Begegnung!
Nächster Halt: Basel SBB. Zeit zum Umsteigen. Machs gut, Kleines. Vielleicht sehen wir uns nie wieder – ich hoffe, es gibt noch mehr von deiner Sorte. Wir gönnen uns einen Tee, bevor wir in den nächsten Zug in Richtung Zürich einsteigen. Marokkanische Minze. Mmmh. Wir steigen ein. Jetzt nicht mehr in der ersten Klasse; das Abteil ist gut gefüllt. „Hier noch frei?“, fragt mein Kumpel. Klar, und wir verstauen das Gepäck und setzen uns hin. Hach, diese Gesichter kenne ich doch! Paula und ihre Familie sind in den gleichen Zug eingestiegen und sitzen gleich gegenüber! Ei, das wird spassig! Munter habe ich Lust zum Saich machen.
*klack* – Paula schnalzt mit ihrer Zunge. *klock*, mache ich zurück. *klack* *zklack* – die Kommunikation ist etabliert. Die SBB-Roboteransageschlampe nervt uns dreisprachig (ich meine: Nervt euch das nicht auch?), und der Zug fährt los. Ich schaue zu Paula und mache einmal fett *KLACK*, so dass mein Kumpel und ihre Eltern etwas verwirrt zu mir sehen. *KLACK*, tönts aus Paula zur Antwort. Wihihi, schaue ich grinsend in die Runde. Meine gute Laune – ob das vom marokkanischen Minzentee kommt? Oder vom Pattern Skank, der mir immer noch im Ohr schallt? Lalala, ich mag’s.
Paula steht auf und kommt neben meinen Sitz. Sie zeigt mir, wie man mit dem Finger im Mund das Geräusch eines ploppenden Sektkorkens nachahmen kann. Ah ja, das kann ich glaubs auch. *plopp* – aber nicht so laut. „En Chindsgifründ vo mir chan das ganz luut“, meint sie zu mir. Oh – sie spricht akzentfrei Hochdeutsch und Zürideutsch. „Hehe, ich kenn au öpper, wo das so lut cha“, entgegne ich. *plopp* *plopp* *plopp* – wir üben noch eine Weile.
*klack* *klack* *plopp*
Seht ihr, so einfach kann man sich mit Menschen unterhalten. Kein mühseliges „Schönes Wetter heute“, „wie heisst du?“ und „wie geht es dir?„, sondern *klack* und *plopp*. Warum funktioniert das nur mit Kindern? Ich würde ja gerne mal an einer Krawatte ziehen und sie spicken lassen, vielleicht kneift das Gegenüber mich zurück? Aber nein, stattdessen würden bloss empörte Blicke fallen, und der Blick senkt sich in den Blick am Abend. Trist. Erwachsene sind so seriös. Nein, ich werde eure sozialen Regeln nicht adaptieren! Ich habe mir oft gedacht: Wie schön wäre eine API für Menschen? Wo man einfach hingehen kann und sagt: Der da! Kompatibilität: 100%, Challenge-Response-Authentifizierung mit *klack* und *plopp*, und dann instant verbündet sein. Keine langwierigen ach und dreh, „was soll ich jetzt sagen?“ und „was denkt er/sie bloss?“ Einfach spielerisch sein, mit Fremden. Kinder sind so. Paula ist die erste, mit der diese so-seins-Art, diese Kommunikation, einfach funktioniert.
„Zip!“ – wir stehen im Gang und warten, bis der Zug hält. „Zap!“, antworte ich ihr. „Zop!“ „Zup“ – „Nein, Zop. Zip, Zap, Zop.“, korrigiert sie mich.
„Zip, Zap, Zop!“ Die Drucklufttüren öffnen sich. Eine weitere Verbündete zieht von dannen. Machs gut, Kleines! Bleib wie du bist. Rotzig, spontan, ungezwungen, verspielt, neugierig, intelligent, humorvoll.

Dieses Wochenende findet eine wichtige Abstimmung statt: Wollen wir die Erziehung an den Staat abgeben? Eine Abstimmung für Eltern, die ihre Verantwortung, ein Kind grosszuziehen, abgeben wollen, weil sie lieber berufstätig sind.

Liebe Eltern
Warum habt ihr Kinder?
Habt ihr Kinder, weil ihr euch entschieden habt, einer Seele auf diesem Planeten ein Leben zu schenken? Ein Kind grosszuziehen, es zu fördern und unterstützen in dem was es ist (und es nicht so zu formen, wie es euren Vorstellungen entspricht), es von ganzem Herzen zu lieben und für es da zu sein, wenn es euch braucht?
Oder habt ihr Kinder, weil „man eben Kinder hat“, weil es die Gesellschaft von euch erwartet? Damit ihr stolz durch’s Dorf laufen und sagen könnt: „Seht her! Auch ich habe es geschafft. Meine Geschlechtsteile sind voll funktionstüchtig, hier ist der Beweis.“ Damit ihr anderen Fotos zeigen könnt, wie „süüüüüüüss“ die Kleinen doch sind…
Tja, und wenn die Kleinen dann plötzlich unangenehme Fragen stellen, oder sich nicht so Verhalten, wie es „von ihnen erwartet wird“ – dann werden die Kleinen zu einem kleinen Hindernis.
Unsere prima funktionierende Gesellschaft hat für diese kleinen Hindernisse etwas wunderbares erfunden: Die Kinderkrippe. Dort können vollzeitbeschäftigte Eltern ihren Schutt am Morgen abladen, danach in der Firma prima Fotos zeigen und am Abend ihre Kinder wieder abholen.
Wenn ich auf Wikipedia kurz den Eintrag überfliege, wird da von Qualitätssicherung und Standards gesprochen. Hallo?? Sind wir denn hier in einer Firma? Ah ja, natürlich. Kinderbetreuer ist ein bezahlter Job. Bei dem man möglicherweise arbeiten muss. Nicht will. Ein Job, der auf Studien, Anforderungskatalogen und Standards basiert, die von Systemsklaven entworfen wurden.
Der Aufbau eines qualitativ hochwertigen Krippensystems sei in (West-)Deutschland bislang „sträflich vernachlässigt“ worden.
Der Göttinger Hirnforscher Gerald Hüther hat Kinderkrippen verteidigt. «Erfahrungen und Studien aus anderen Ländern zeigen, dass sich Kinder dort gut entwickeln», sagte der Professor der «Neuen Osnabrücker Zeitung». Das gelte allerdings nur bei einem hochwertigen Krippenangebot. «Ein Kind entwickelt sich zu Hause gut, wenn die Mutter sich über das Kind freut und gern mit ihm zusammen ist», sagte der Experte. Für Mütter, die eigentlich lieber berufstätig wären oder die arbeiten müssten, weil die Gesellschaft sie als Mutter nicht bezahle, sei es sinnvoll, ein Betreuungsangebot zur Verfügung zur stellen.
WARUM HABT IHR DENN ÜBERHAUPT KINDER?
Als Prestigesymbol. Damit man sie vorzeigen kann. Ich musste auch schon an Geburtstage von Verwandten mitgehen und artig sein. Ob mir das gefällt, das hat man mich nicht gefragt.
Warum gibt es eigentlich keinen Elternführerschein? Ich meine: Um ein Auto zu Lenken, muss ich verschiedene Bedingungen erfüllen und Prüfungen ablegen. Weil Autofahren etwas verantwortungsvolles ist. Und Eltern sein und Kinder grossziehen? Das ist nichts verantwortungsvolles?
Was halten denn Kindertagesstättenbetreuer von Kinderkrippen? Lesen wir einen Ausschnitt:
Bevor ich meine Erfahrungen mit Kindertagesstätten in Schweden erzähle, möchte ich mich selbst vorstellen: Ich bin schwedischer Bürger, 47 Jahre alt, verheiratet und Vater von zwei Töchtern im Alter von jetzt 20 und 17 Jahren. Meine Frau ist diplomierte Kinderpflegerin für Kindertagesstätten und war bis zur Geburt unseres ersten Kindes in ihrem Beruf tätig.
Als wir unser erstes Kind erwarteten, erklärte mir meine Frau, daß sie unser Baby nicht einer Kindertagesstätte anvertrauen wolle. Dabei ist zu bemerken, daß sie zu dieser Zeit selbst in einer solchen Tagesstätte tätig war. Als ich sie nach dem Grund fragte, antwortete sie mir, daß sie aus ihrer eigenen Erfahrung sagen könne, daß keine fremde Person in der Lage sei, einem Kind die Liebe und Aufmerksamkeit entgegenzubringen, die der liebenden Verbindung zwischen einem Elternteil und dem Kind entspricht.
An manchen Abenden kehrte sie heim und weinte um ihre kleinen Klienten, die wie lebende Pakete morgens abgeliefert und abends von ihren Eltern abgeholt würden. Ich versprach ihr, daß ich alles tun würde, um das notwendige Einkommen für uns zu sichern, damit sie sich selbst um unser Kind sorgen könne.
Und dann wundern sich die Leute, wenn mal wieder jemand Amok läuft. Es soll kürzlich wieder einen gegeben haben. Nein ich hab’s nicht gelesen, sondern einfach mitbekommen. Aber ich sage euch was folgt: Politikerknallköpfe, die nach Killerspielen suchen und weitere Gesetze erlassen. Niemand sucht nach den wirklichen Gründen, das wird ja gar nicht erwartet von den ängstlichen Fernsehzuschauern. Soll sich doch der Staat um die Sicherheit kümmern und Massnahmen ergreifen, gegen die Bedrohungen, die wir nach 9 Monaten Brutzeit rauslassen.
Denn: Wir wollen ja nicht, dass die kleinen Hindernisse zu grossen Hindernissen heranwachsen.
Erziehung ist ein Vollzeitjob.
Liebe Eltern. Wenn Ihr Kinder habt, dann ist das euer Beruf. Ihr müsst euch um sie kümmern, und nicht nebenher noch arbeiten. Es sind eure Kinder. Kinder sind ein Vollzeitjob. Sie wollen von euch grossgezogen und geliebt werden. Niemand kann das ersetzen. Ihr vermittelt ihnen die Werte, die sie später in die Welt hinaustragen und die zukünftige Gesellschaft formen. Wollen wir, dass der Staat diese Gesellschaft formt?

Wer heute in die Unis blickt, wird rasch feststellen, dass sich die Studenten so gut wie keine Freiheiten mehr gewähren. Seit Beginn des sogenannten Bologna-Prozesses, der 1999 beschlossen und im Jahr 2010 beendet wurde, betrachtet die junge Generation ihre Lehrjahre als eine Art berufsqualifizierende Maßnahme, so konsequent wie keine zuvor. Mit Bologna ist der europäische Bildungsraum vereinheitlicht worden, damit Abschlüsse nun grenzübergreifend gelten können. Im Zuge dessen wurde das zweistufige Bachelor-/Master-System eingeführt, auch, um die Unizeiten massiv zu verkürzen. Ein Studium soll nun nicht mehr als jene Phase gelten, in der Interessen jenseits des fachlichen Kanons vertieft oder neue Lebensentwürfe erprobt werden. Stattdessen ist der bruchlose Übergang zwischen Schule, Uni und Job das angestrebte Ideal. Was aber hat diese Entwicklung, die man ohne zu untertreiben als europäische Bildungsrevolution bezeichnen kann, mit den Studierenden selbst gemacht? Wie sind die jungen Akademiker von heute eigentlich?

Jeden Morgen, wenn ich meinen Sohn in die Schule schicke, ahne ich, dass er das meiste von dem, was im Unterricht zur Rede kommt, am Nachmittag wieder vergessen hat. Nicht weil er sich dies vornimmt. Oder sich wenig merken kann. Es ist einfach zu viel, was er in kurzer Zeit aufnehmen, bewerten und einordnen soll. Dazu kommt die Angst, ein vorab in einem Lehrplan festgelegtes Problem in einer nicht von ihm bestimmten Zeit einer Prüfung unterziehen zu müssen: Bis dahin hat er gefälligst zu kapieren, sonst gibt es eine schlechte Note. So lernt mein Sohn, und nicht nur er, dass Lernen eine Strafe sein kann.

Was ist der Grund, auf welchem Argument stützt du deine Entscheidung?
Das klickende Geräusch einer sich ladenden Schrotflinte schallt mir durch den Kopf. Muss ich mich jetzt rechtfertigen??!
Es ist meine bewusste Entscheidung als freies Individuum. Ganz. Einfach. Ich habe mich schon sehr früh so entschieden. Trotzdem wird meine Entscheidung mit einer subtilen Hoffnung auf Änderung hinterfragt.

Twilight Sparkle hat von Prinzessin Celestia den Auftrag, in Equestria die Freundschaft zu studieren. Äußerliche Erkennungsmerkmale sind ihr lila Fell, ihre blaue Mähne mit pinken und violetten Strähnen und ihr magisches Horn auf der Stirn.
Was für ein sympathischer Haufen Ponies! Jedes mit seiner Charaktereigenschaft und seinem («cutie mark»); ein Symbol, welches oberhalb des Hüftgelenks erscheint, sobald das Pony seine individuelle Gabe in sich entdeckt hat.
Das Ding ganz oben ist Rainbow Dash. Sie ist ein Pegasus-Pony und hat die Aufgabe, den Himmel von Wolken freizuhalten, sofern dies erwünscht ist. Dabei probiert sie immer wieder neue Flugmanöver aus, denn sie möchte einmal der berühmten Fliegertruppe „Wonderbolts“ beitreten. Von den sechs Elementen der Harmonie verkörpert sie die Treue.
Oder das schüüche Fluttershy:
Sie ist bekannt für ihre Schüchternheit und Tierliebe. Sie kümmert sich um die Tiere in Ponyville, vor allem um ihr Häschen Angel. Ihr Element der Harmonie ist die Freundlichkeit.
Aja. Die Elemente der Harmonie:
Die Elemente der Harmonie sind magische Artefakte; von denen Twilight Sparkle und ihre Freunde je eines repräsentieren. Die Elemente der Harmonie sind Ehrlichkeit, Lachen, Treue, Freundlichkeit und Grosszügigkeit. Das sechste Element, das der Magie, wird aktiviert, wenn alle anderen zusammenkommen. Sprich, wenn wir alle Ponies versammelt haben, dann kommt die Magie zum Vorschein: Die Freundschaft.
Das Zielpublikum der Serie sind junge Mädchen. Die meisten Fans sind Männer über 20. 🙂 Oops.
Es geht um Persönlichkeitsentwicklung. Die eigene Gabe erkennen. Es geht um Individualität. Es geht um Vielfalt. Es geht um Freundschaft. Es geht um Magie. Was für ein Zauber!
Die Uralt-Serie „My little Pony“ ist ein Stück Internet-Kultur. Und wie so viel Internet-Kultur begann alles bei 4chan, einer anarchischen Webseite, wo jeder Bilder posten kann, anonym und unkontrolliert. Irgendwann tauchten die pastellfarbenen Ponys auf, wurden kommentiert, montiert und mutierten zu Ikonen der Netzkultur:
„Dadurch, dass sie Freundschaft schließen und zusammen denken können, lösen sie ihre Probleme. Und das ist es, was eigentlich das Netz auch ausmacht. Verschiedenste Charaktere denken zusammen über Probleme nach und lösen sie. Und das ist eigentlich das gleiche – nur abgebildet auf Ponys.“
Sympathisch. Ich konnte mich sowieso noch nie mit den Erwachsenen anfreunden.
Darauf gestossen bin ich über diesen Chaosradio Podcast über Freundschaft, Ponies und Cumberbitches.
Und zum Schluss noch dies…
„My Little Pony“ ist eine bald 30 Jahre alte Zeichentrickserie über die Freundschaften einer Handvoll Ponys. Bei den Piraten im Berliner Landtag hat sie es in die Geschäftsordnung geschafft: Jeder Pirat kann, etwa in einer hitzigen Diskussion, beantragen, eine Folge der Kinderserie zu schauen, um die Gemüter zu beruhigen.
