Die Tribute von Panem spielt in einer nicht näher definierten Zukunft, nachdem Nordamerika durch Naturkatastrophen, Kriege und den Einfluss des Menschen größtenteils zerstört wurde. Aus den Trümmern entstand die diktatorische Nation Panem, welche ursprünglich aus dem regierenden reichen Kapitol und 13 umliegenden ärmeren Distrikten bestand. Der Name des Landes Panem leitet sich vom Ausspruch Panem et circenses (lat. ‚Brot und Spiele‘) des römischen Dichters Juvenal ab. (Mit Brot und Spielen sollten die Römer davon abgehalten werden, gegen den Staat aufzubegehren.)

in meinen Augen offensichtlich, unüberseh- und unüberhörbar, arbeitet die Staatsgewalt nicht für die Freiheit und Fülle des Volkes, sondern dagegen. Dafür müssen die Menschen, inzwischen zu funktionierenden Marionetten gewordene Personen, immer mehr Steuern und Abgaben leisten. Darüber hinaus werden die Menschen über die Massenmedien und das Politikgeplenkel mit Ängsten, Zukunftssorgen und Scheinproblemen ausgestattet, um sie, einem Joystick gleich, den Wünschen und Spielregeln einiger weniger machtbesessenen Monopolisten zu lenken. • Rettungsschirme für Banken, Versicherungen und andere Institutionen
• Kriegseinsätze und Eroberungsfeldzüge
• Falsch, Fehl- oder Nichtinformation der Menschen
• Geld- und Kapitalsysteme, welche künstlich geschaffenes Geld teuer verkaufen
• ungerechte Subventions- und Fördersysteme
• totale Überwachung und Kontrolle der Bevölkerung
• Schul-VER-Bildung zur Unmündigkeit
• nationaler & internationaler Gebots- und Verbotswahnsinn
• manipulative Medien fernab jeglichen Wahrheitsgehaltes

existieren und angestrebt werden, kann ich weder meine Stimme noch meinen Energieausgleich (derzeit Geld in Form von Steuern und Abgaben) für dieses System zur Verfügung stellen. WIR müssen wieder das Volk sein!

Sir, I am getting increasingly annoyed at the barrage of articles about teenagers, and the adults who keep trying to explain our behaviour („Moods and meltdowns: what’s inside the teenage brain?“, Mar 1)

I am 16 and a straight-A student, like most of my friends. We are not as irrational and immature as adults seem to think. We’ve grown up with financial crises and accept that most of use will be unemployed. We no longer flinch at bloody images of war because we’ve grown up seeing the chaos in the Middle East and elsewhere. Most of us are cynical and pessimistic because of the environment we’ve grown up in — which should be explanation enough for our apparent insolence and disrespect, without „experts“ having to write articles about it.

Has no one ever seen that we are angry at the world we live in? Angry that we will have to clean up your mess, while you hold us in contempt, analyzing our responses as though we were another species?

I would like adults to treat us not as strange creatures from another world but as human beings with intelligent though — a little different from yours, perhaps, but intelligent thought nonetheless.

Stop teaching adults how to behave around us, and instead teach them to respect us.
