Vor einem Jahr bin ich auf dieses Video gestossen. Photorealistische, weiträumige Landschaften. „Arma 3 nimmt dich in den Krieg“, bewirbt sich das Spiel. Mein Verstand sträubt sich dagegen. Wie, was? Warum soll ich sowas toll finden?

So Armeeshooter gibts doch wie Sand am Meer, und wenn ich nicht cheaten und das Spiel nicht selber gestalten kann, wie ich will, dann ist’s nichts für mich. Bei den meisten Ballergames geht’s doch eh nur darum, sich gegenseitig abzuknallen und darum, wer auf der Rangliste ganz zuoberst steht. Dieser kompetitive eSports-Schrott mag ich überhaupt nicht.

Mein selbst erstellter Eskort kommt am Stützpunkt an. *Pflapp*, da fliegen grüne Flares in die Luft, der Himmel füllt sich mit den Helis, die vom Flughafen gestartet sind. Ein Spawnpoint erstellt alle 15 Sekunden Gegner und Gegner-vom-Gegner, die in der Nacht mit Markiermunition den Berghang beleuchten und sich ein imposantes Gefecht liefern. Ich bestaune das mal von unten, mal aus dem Helikopter, mal als Gegner. „Und wie ist es, wenn ich dann dort bin? Bei Sonnenuntergang? Wie ist die gleiche Mission am Morgen?“ Eine Szenerie „Antenne im Sonnenuntergang“. In der Nacht leuchten an dieser Antenne rote Lampen.
Die Landschaften sind RIESIG. Ich fliege mit einem Jet hoch und kann die ganze Insel sehen, aber wenn ich am Boden bin, bewegt sich jedes Ästchen an den Sträuchern.
Ob am Tag, bei Sonnenuntergang oder in der Nacht: Die Lichteffekte sind erstklassig.
Nachdem ich am Freitag zum ersten Mal in diesem Sandkasten gesändelet habe, wurde es am Samstag 3 Uhr morgens. Sonntag um 9 Uhr Abends habe ich dann gemerkt, dass das Frühstück um 3 Uhr Mittags eigentlich das Mittagessen war und auf die Toilette sollte ich auch schon seit dringend. Nur noch einmal ein Szenario testen. Jetzt in der Nacht statt am Tag. Ich platziere Leuchttürme im Wald, die die Landschaft wunderschön ausleuchten.
Nachdem ich den Editor ausgiebig getestet hatte, zog mich die Kampagne in den Bann. Aber nur soweit, bis das Spiel markant schwieriger wurde. Kein God-Mode Cheat, und die Levels müssen zuerst freigeschaltet werden… So ruhte das Spiel für den Rest des Jahres wieder. Das war 2016.
Zeus -- der Echtzeitmissionseditor
2017. Kleines Training, Szenario „Zeus“. Das ist der Modus, bei dem ein Spieler die Funktion eines Spielleiters übernimmt und die Mission in Echtzeit zusammenstellen kann. Bislang habe ich die Finger davon gelassen, denn das macht ja nur Sinn mit mehreren Spielern. Ein Jahr lang habe ich den Multiplayermodus nicht angerührt.
Und dann verbinde ich mich zu einem „Official Server -- Zeus“ und entdecke, wie vielfältig die Missionen sind. Jede Mission ist einzigartig und immer wieder neu, da sie nicht vom Hersteller vorgegeben ist, sondern von den Spielern selber kreiert wird. Jeder kann Spielleiter werden, und jeder hat seine eigenen Ideen und Überraschungen. Es ist höchst kreativ! Klassisches Basen und Städte erobern am Tag. Stealthmissionen in der Nacht, mit Schalldämpfer und Taucheranzug. Eine Checkpointmission, bei der vorbeifahrende Fahrzeuge überprüft werden müssen.
Geiselbefreiungsaktionen. Polizeimissionen. Suchen und bergen. Konvois. Mit nichts starten und sich Waffen und Munition durch Eroberungen aneignen. Welchen Film möchten wir nachspielen? The Rock auf Alcatraz?
Wir spielen The Hunger Games. Der Spielleiter baut eine Mauer um die Kamino Firing Range, das wird die Arena. Pylonen sind kreisförmig angeordnet, in der Mitte befindet sich ein Arsenal mit Waffen. „Alle Mann, auf die Pylonen! Keiner bewegt sich, bis ich das Startsignal gebe!“ Der Startschuss fällt, alle rennen zum Arsenal, einige direkt in Verstecke. „Wer sich zu lange versteckt, wird mit einer Rauchgranate markiert!“, gibt uns der Spielleiter zu verstehen.
Die Profimission
„Hier sind Nachtsichtgeräte und Thermalkameras, rüstet euch aus.“ Jeder hat Schalldämpfer und einen Laser auf seine Waffe geschraubt. Das wird eine Stealthmission.
Die Spieler formieren sich zu Gruppen. Jeder beschränkt den Funkverkehr auf ein Minimum, nur die Teamleiter sprechen auf dem globalen Kanal. Alle halten sich an die Regeln und nehmen die Mission ernst und spielen mit.
„Wie kann ich den Laser aktivieren?“ „Taste L“. Immer wieder stossen Neulinge hinzu. Die erfahrenen Spieler helfen ihnen sogleich und geben Tipps. Es ist keine Schande, nichts zu wissen und Anfänger zu sein. Die Willkommenskultur bei diesem Spiel ist gross. „Ich habe manchmal länger für einen Funkspruch, denn ich habe einen Sprachfehler“, bemerkt jemand. „Das macht gar nichts, ich habe auch einen Sprachfehler. Kann ich dich bei Steam als Freund hinzufügen?“, finden sich zwei Menschen. Verschiedenste Leute aus allen Ecken der Welt finden sich zusammen, um gemeinsam eine Mission zu spielen. Aus Dänemark, Schweden, Norwegen, England, Kanada, Australien, Russland und Polen.
Ich schliesse mich einem kleinen Aufklärungsteam an. Wir beobachten das Gelände mit Ferngläsern und geben den anderen Situationsberichte. Die Spielzeit ist bereits bei 30 Minuten und bis jetzt ist kein Schuss gefallen.
Es dämmert und der Tag bricht herein. Die Spielzeit ist beschleunigt. Wir müssen ein gegnerisches Waffenversteck sprengen. Unsere Teams treffen sich wieder, zwei Mitglieder bringen die Sprengladungen an. Wir lösen aus und begeben uns zum Flugplatz, wo das Abschlussgefecht stattfindet.
Nach der Mission sind alle hellauf begeistert, wie ultra-professionell das vonstatten ging, wie genau geplant das war und wie jeder mitgemacht hat. „Ihr habt mehrstufige Taktikpläne auf der Karte gezeichnet, und ich dachte, wow, sowas habe ich noch nie auf einem öffentlichen Server gesehen!“, merkt der Spielleiter an.
Denn nicht immer sind alle so kooperativ. Häufig sind ein oder zwei Trolle dabei, die die Mission sabotieren. Die Karten sehen dann zum Beispiel so aus:

Hier hat der Spielleiter ein umfangreiches Briefingzelt eingerichtet.
Doch nicht immer sind die Folgen bei der Platzierung von Gegenständen absehbar. Hier schmeisst jemand eine Rauchgranate und lässt Musik über Funk laufen, und schon haben wir ein Rockkonzert…
Mich erkennt man daran, dass ich immer Barfuss auf der Seitenbank im Heli am blüttlen bin. Die Uniform ist sowieso zu schwer. Am liebsten schmeisse ich dann noch Rauchgranaten; das wird um so spannender, je höher und schneller der Heli fliegt, weil sie dann einen langen Schweif hinter sich herziehen und am Boden entlangkullern…
Wir sollten uns zu diesem Turm begeben. Als ich dort eintreffe, spielt mein Mitspieler Ländler und Hudigäggeler über Direktfunk ab und wir wippen gemeinsam im Takt…
Es geht in Arma vorallem darum, das Militär so dermassen durch den Dreck zu ziehen, dass man es nicht mehr ernst nehmen kann.
Altis Paralympics
Auf einer Mission finden wir plötzlich Turngeräte am Boden. Die Spieler begrüssen diese Abwechslung, der Spielleiter lässt uns Liegestützen machen. Wir rennen um die Wette. „Moment mal -- lasst uns eine Meisterschaft machen. In Altis gibt’s doch ein Stadion…“
Der Spawnpoint ist gesetzt, und im nächsten Moment befinden wir uns in einem Stadion, wo der Spielleiter bereits die Hindernisse für den Sprintkurs platziert.
Hubschrauber kreisen über dem Stadion, das Ziel ist platziert und an jeder Startposition weht eine Fahne. „Welcome to Altis paralympics“, beginnt der Spielleiter. Ich kann mich kaum halten vor Lachen -- das ist so episch. Wir spielen Leichtathletik in einem Militärshooter!
Hey aber, wenn das mit rennen funktioniert -- dann funktioniert das auch mit Go-Karts!
Der Panzer gibt den Startschuss!
Ein anderer Spieler hat eine Idee: „Wir machen eine Rallye!“ Und ein wenig später hat der neue Spielleiter die Strecke vorbereitet.
Der Drillinstructor mit Startschusspistole gibt uns das Zeichen.
„Jetzt bin ich dran!“ meldet sich der nächste Spieler. Er will ebenfalls ein Rennen veranstalten, allerdings mit schnelleren Autos und auf dem Asphalt.
„Ich habe auch noch eine Idee!!“ sage ich zum Spielleiter. Fallschirm-Ziellandungen auf dem Floss! „Ist gut, ich bereite was vor.“
Wir befinden uns in luftiger Höhe auf 4’000 Metern über Meer. Ich kann den Boden schon gar nicht mehr sehen. „Wer zuerst und auf dem Floss landet, hat gewonnen!“ Das bedingt, dass man den Schirm erst ganz tief über dem Boden öffnet.
Es geht los!
Ziellandung…? Doch oh weh: Der Spielleiter verschiebt das Floss -- und löscht es dann!
Heeeeh! Gemein.
Der soziale Aspekt von Arma
Wir sind zu dritt auf einem Server. Ein 13-jähriger ist Spielleiter, ich befinde mich in einem Hubschrauber und werde von einem Erwachsenen beschossen. Mein Heli beginnt sich zu drehen, stark beschädigt. Alle Warnleuchten und Alarme gehen an. „Ja, du hast nicht mehr genug Schub vorwärts, drehst aber noch. Die Energie reicht für eine sanfte Landung“, versichert er mir. Er ist Berufspilot, wie wir später herausfinden. „Das glaube ich nicht. So schräg wie ich rotiere? Und mir fehlt der Heckrotor!“ „Das ist ok, den brauchst du nicht.“
Es klappt tatsächlich! „Yea, sehr schön, sehr schön! Prima. Wart, ich reparier schnell deinen Heli.“
Das ist es, was ich an Arma so mag. Das sändele. Auch mal etwas ungezwungen zu dritt ausprobieren. Und dabei Leute kennenlernen und mit ihnen plaudern!
Ich lerne einen weiteren Spielgefährten kennen: Ty. Wir sind auf einer Mission, bei der es darum geht, Transporter, in denen Bomben versteckt sind, in einem Dorf zu finden. „What is your Callsign?“ fragt uns der Spielleiter. Ich überlege eine Weile. Ty fliegt, während ich schiesse. „I am the fire, you are the bird. Together, we are Firebird.“ Firebird!
Der zwölfjährige fliegt den grossen Hubschrauber gekonnt, während ich die Gatlingkanone bediene. Wir sind ein prima Team! Wo sonst kann man mit Kindern in grossen Nato-Spielzeugen sitzen und herumfuhrwerken? Die Komik, wenn sie mir dann Trickli und Saltos vorführen wollen -- zu ulkig! Ich stelle mir vor, wie im echten, ernsten Militär der Kommandant einen hochroten Kopf und einen riesen Ständer bekommen würde ab sowas.
Anderer Tag, anderer Server. Ein Spieler ballert wild herum, trifft zum Teil die Leute aus dem eigenen Team. „Ich will Menschen abschiessen!“. Ty erklärt ihm sofort, dass es in Arma nicht darum geht. Das ist kein Ballerspiel. Hier geht es darum, eine Mission zu machen -- zusammen, gemeinsam! Wenn du ballern willst, geht doch Call of Duty spielen!
Hier basteln ich und Ty an einer Nachtmission. Die Burg auf Altis soll erobert werden. „Weisst du was, ich platziere aussenrum Leuchttürme, das sieht dann geil aus mit den Lichteffekten.“ „Au ja!“ eifert er mir sogleich zu, und im nächsten Moment: „Ty, Ty, Ty -- schau mal wie geil das aussieht, wenn das Licht vom Leuchtturm im Wasser leuchtet!“
Einen Moment später erklärt er mir, wie ich „IEDs -- improvised explosive devices“ platziere. „Und dann drückst du „End“, und das Ding explodiert.“ Die Explosion verschiebt zwei seiner IEDs, als Nahrung getarnt. „Du hast mein Essen verschoben. Tactical bacon!“ 😀
Outtakes und lustige Momente
Immer wieder entstehen lustige Situationen, Fehler und Ungereimtheiten, die dann entsprechend für Gelächter sorgen. Der Humor ist gross in Arma 3.
Zum Beispiel, als ich mit Ty auf einer Mission ein Boot suchen sollte, aber von den wunderschönen Blumen am Boden abgelenkt werde. Lass mich mal daran riechen -- mmmmh!
Das Boot ist nicht im Wasser platziert. So kann ich es nicht fahren. Aber mal schauen, was sonst noch so funktionstüchtig ist. Richtig, die Gatling-Kanone! BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Die macht solchen Krach, dass sich Ty sogleich einen Tinnitus holt, den ich durch sein Mikrofon hören kann. Der Spielleiter merkt an, dass jetzt wohl die ganze Insel alarmiert ist…
Nächste Szene. Wir sitzen auf einer Nachtmission in einem Transporter. Jemand zündet mit seinem Laser auf den Heli, worauf ein Mitspieler sogleich warnt: „Es ist nicht das schlauste, den Laser bei Nacht auf einen Heli zu richten.“ Und was glaubt ihr, was dann wohl passiert? Richtig, alle schalten ihre Laser an und zünden auf den Heli! Worauf dieser natürlich sofort das Feuer eröffnet, sehr zu meiner Belustigung.
Checkpointmission. „Keine Sorge, ich bin sicher, dieser Panzer will nur in die Ferien fahren!“ „Ah ok, klar. Er kann passieren!“
Schüsse fallen. „Nein, nein, das ist Nato, nicht schiessen!“ „Oh Gott. Kannst du keine Uniformen unterscheiden?“ „Dude, ich benutze Nachtsicht!“ Das war am Tag.
Ich krieche halbnackt rückwärts durch den Trainingskurs, sehr zur Belustigung der Spielleitung… Im nächsten Moment springe ich vorzeitig aus dem Senkrechtstarter. Der Spielleiter Zeus findet das diesmal nicht so lustig und versucht, mit mit seinem Blitz zu zerschlagen. Leider erfolglos. Derweil stürzt das Flugzeug im Hintergrund ab, während ich überlebe…
„Ich bin im Haus mit den blauen Türen!“ „Alle Häuser haben blaue Türen!“
„Wie fliege ich ein Flugzeug?“ „Es ist wie ein Helikopter, fliegt aber ständig sehr schnell vorwärts.“
„Ich denke die brauchen mehr Gegner“, sagt Ty auf dem globalen Kommunikationskanal zu seinem Moderator. Nur: Auf dem globalen Kanal können es alle Spieler hören…
Das hintere Fahrzeug rammt unseres und fliegt mit immenser Geschwindigkeit in den Himmel, auf und davon. Was ist passiert? Netzwerk-Desynchronisation, der Client des Spielers hat die Positionsdaten verzögert übermittelt, und als sie auf dem Server ankamen, befanden sich beide Fahrzeuge ineinander und die Physikengine hat entsprechend reagiert…
„Es regnet Katzen“, bemerke ich, während wir sonst schon am Blödsinn machen sind. Es miaut vom Himmel und die Mörsergranaten schlagen ein…
Ein wenig später fallen zahlreiche brennende Flugzeugwracks vom Himmel. „Der Gegner hatte keine Munition mehr, deswegen bewerfen sie euch jetzt mit alten Flugzeugen!“ Ich singe sogleich „it’s raining planes, halleluja!“ und die anderen stimmen ein.
Arma mit Schweizern
Ein weiteres Highlight hatte ich vor einer Woche. Auf einer Party habe ich mit einem Kumpel gesprochen und wir haben herausgefunden, dass wir beide Arma spielen. Er hat einen Clan, sie spielen amigs am Sonntag Abend. Na, das muss ich mir ansehen -- ich bin dabei!
Es gibt viele Erweiterungen für Arma. Eine ist unter anderem Schweizer Uniformen und ein erweitertes Kommunikationssystem mit einem Funkgerät.
Ich trete dem Server bei. Sie erklären mir alles. Arma uf Schwizerdütsch und mit Vierfruchtpyjamas! Die Funkerweiterung „Task Force Radio“ platziert Stimmen dreidimensional im Raum, aber die Funksprüche kommen zentriert aus dem Headset. Ich bin so überwältigt von der Epik, dass ich nur schwer einen Lachkrampf unterdrücken kann.
„An alli vo Fatal, Verbindigskontrolle. Sigi antworte!“ Fatal ist der Teamleiter und geht durch alle Mitglieder durch und überprüft die Funkverbindung. Schweizer Uniformen, Funkkontakt, und alle nehmen es voll ernst und spielen chli Schweizer Militär. Fatal kommt bei mir an. „Shadow antworte.“

Ich habe meinen Text bereits wieder vergessen und biege mich vor Lachen. Die anderen stimmen amüsiert ein. „Hie gheit grad eine abem Stuel, aber das isch geil!“
Und wir starten in die Mission.
Hunger und Haushalt bleiben auch während einer Mission nicht stehen. So muss Raffi während eines Gefechts noch ein Biss von seinem Gipfeli nehmen. Später scheint er komplett abwesend. „Dä isch am Wösch hänke!“ -- im Krieg. 😀
