Die brasilianische Sci-Fi Serie 3% erinnert stark an die Tribute von Panem. Sie zeigt ein finsteres Zukunftsszenario, in dem drei Prozent der brasilianischen Bevölkerung ein Leben im Paradies und die grosse Masse das Elendsquartier erwartet. Eine Parabel auf die wachsende Ungleichheit in Zeiten des globalen Kapitalismus.
Das Brasilien der Zukunft besteht aus zwei Welten, die hermetisch voneinander getrennt sind -- die Slums, in denen der grösste Teil der Bevölkerung lebt, umgeben von Dreck und Verbrechen und ohne Perspektive für die Zukunft. Und, weit entfernt, ein Inselparadies, in dem solche Probleme der Vergangenheit angehören. Jeder Bürger bekommt, wenn er 20 wird, eine Chance, dorthin umzusiedeln: den sogenannten Prozess.
Der Prozess übernimmt in der futuristischen Gesellschaft auch die Rolle einer Religion. Vor Beginn der Prüfungen spricht Prozessleiter Ezequiel, der auch vor Folter und Mord nicht zurückschreckt die traditionelle Danksagung -- und die Teilnehmer sprechen sie nach: „Wir sind dankbar für die Chance auf ein besseres Leben.“
Um den Favelas zu entkommen, lassen die Menschen nicht nur ihre Familien zurück, viele von ihnen setzen auch bereitwillig ihr Leben aufs Spiel. Die Parallelen zu verzweifelten Flüchtlingen in überfüllten Boten sind, gerade für Bewohner der „Festung Europa“, schwer zu übersehen. Bevor es um Leben und Tod geht, lässt sich der Prozess allerdings harmlos an: Einige der Tests, in denen Bewerber ausgesiebt oder „eliminiert“ werden, könnten ebenso aus einer Reality-Show stammen -- andere erinnern dagegen an das Stanford Gefängnis-Experiment; jenen berühmten Test, der abgebrochen werden musste, als die Probanden einander an die Kehle gingen.
