Der Name des Landes Panem leitet sich vom Ausspruch Panem et circenses (lat. ‚Brot und Spiele‘) des römischen Dichters Juvenal ab. Aber der Rest der Welt? Soweit ich weiss, gibt es kein Gesetz, das die dauerhafte und unabhängige Kommunikation sicherstellt. Sowas wie ein Menschenrecht auf Internet. Und das ist gefährlich. Die Regierungen können da beliebig eingreifen, filtern, zensieren, abschalten, löschen. In einem Netz, wo Informationen über Leben und Tod entscheiden. Ein Netz, das Menschen helfen kann, sich zu informieren. Ein Netz, an dem lebenserhaltende Systeme hängen. Nicht gut.

Ein Fehler in der Verschlüsselungssoftware OpenSSL gefährdet viele bisher als sicher angesehene Verbindungen im Internet. „Heartbleed“ haben ihn seine Entdecker getauft.

Es ist so etwas wie der GAU für die Sicherheit von Verschlüsselungen im Netz. Sicherheitsforscher haben in der weit verbreiteten Software OpenSSL einen Fehler entdeckt, der Server dazu bringen kann, ihr größtes Geheimnis preiszugeben: Den privaten Schlüssel. Betroffen davon ist ein großer Teil der Server im Netz, aber auch eine unüberschaubare Zahl von anderen Anwendungen. Was Experten und Systemadministratoren gerade in Schnappatmung versetzt, geht deshalb auch ganz normale Internetnutzer an.

Zeitgenosse: Wenn du gar keine Medien benutzt, wie kannst du denn informiert sein?

Nachtwächter: Es ist nicht so, dass ich gar keine Medien benutze. Ich benutze nur nicht die zentral organisierten Massenmedien, um mich aus ihnen zu informieren. Glaubst du wirklich, dass du informierter bist, Bruder?

Zeitgenosse: Aber ja, ich höre jeden Tag die Nachrichten?

Nachtwächter: Und nach denen richtest du dich, ist schon klar! Weißt du noch, welches politische Thema letztes Jahr im Sommer die größte mediale Aufmerksamkeit hatte?

Zeitgenosse: Nein, aber das wird doch jetzt auch nicht mehr aktuell sein und ist damit unwichtig.

Nachtwächter: Gut, denn sage ich es dir, Bruder. Es war das Thema “Feinstaub”, und das ist in diesem Jahr genau so aktuell wie im letzten Jahr, da sich an der Situation gar nichts verändert hat. Es ist nur nicht mehr aktuell in den zentral organisierten Massenmedien, sehr wohl aber ists aktuell in den ungezählten Lungen derer, die an Krebs erkranken oder unter Asthma leiden. Das Thema wurde im letzten Jahr benutzt, um die politische Show aufzuführen, die unter den Bedingungen der zentral organisierten Massenmedien zum Ersatz für das politische Ringen um eine menschengerechte Gesellschaft geworden ist. Wer sich seine Informationen nicht selbst — und zwar am Maßstab der ganz persönlichen Wichtigkeit — auswählt, der lehnt sich zu leicht im heiteren Infotainment zurück, verwechselt eine tägliche Show der Content-Industrie mit der leider sehr wirksamen Wirklichkeit und fühlt sich dabei informiert und politisch, während er entpolitisiert wird. Die zentral organisierten Massenmedien sind ein nützlich gemachtes Vehikel zur Entpolitisierung der Massen.

Zeitgenosse: Aber die Presse ist doch nicht zentral organisiert, es gibt so viele voneinander unabhängige Zeitungen.

Nachtwächter: Aber wenn du genau hinschaust und des Öfteren verschiedene Zeitschriften miteinander vergleichst, wirst du feststellen, dass die Themenwahl identisch ist, ja, das oft sogar die Texte der Artikel übereinstimmen. Das liegt daran, dass klassischer Journalismus kaum noch Platz im hastigen Betrieb um quicke news hat, und so werden die Meldungen einiger weniger, großer Agenturen direkt in die Presseerzeugnisse übernommen. Unter diesen Bedingungen ist in einer an sich dezentralen Situation wiederum eine zentral organisierte Struktur entstanden; die scheinbare Vielfalt entpuppt sich beim Hinschauen als Einfalt.

Zeitgenosse: Aber gibt es in den Massenmedien gar nichts Interessantes für dich zu lesen? Gibt es gar keine Information darin, die für dein Leben wichtig und bedeutsam ist, die dich zum Nachdenken und zum Handeln bringt?
