Hi and merry christmas. I am honored to have a chance to speak with you and your family this year. Recently we learned that our governments, working in concert, have created system of worldwide mass surveillance watching everything we do.

Great Britain’s George Orwell warned us of the danger of this kind of information. The types of collection in the book, microphones, video cameras, TVs that watch us, are nothing compared to what we have available today. We have sensors in our pockets that track us everywhere we go. Think about what this means for the privacy of the average person. A child born today will grow up with no conception of privacy at all. They’ll never know what it means to have a private moment to themselves, an unrecorded, unanalyzed thought. And that is a problem. Because privacy matters. Privacy is what allows us to determine who we are and who we want to be.

The conversation occurring today will determine the amount of trust we can place both in the technology that surrounds us and the government that regulates it. Together we can find a better balance, end mass surveillance and remind the government that if it really wants to know how we feel, asking is always cheaper than spying. Die Überwachungsmethoden in seinem Buch – Mikrofone, Videokameras, Fernseher die uns überwachen – sind nichts gegen das, was heute verfügbar ist. Wir tragen Sensoren in unseren Taschen, die aufzeichnen, wohin wir auch gehen.

Bedenken Sie, was das für die Privatsphäre eines durchschnittlichen Menschen bedeutet. Ein Kind, das heute geboren wird, wird ohne jegliche Vorstellung von Privatsphäre aufwachsen. Es wird niemals wissen, was es bedeutet, einen privaten Moment nur für sich zu haben; einen Gedanken, der nicht aufgezeichnet und analysiert wird. Das ist ein Problem, denn die Privatsphäre ist wichtig. Die Privatsphäre ist es, die uns ermöglicht herauszufinden, wer wir sind und wer wir sein wollen.

Die Debatte, die heute stattfindet, wird bestimmen, wie sehr wir sowohl der Technologie, die uns umgibt, als auch dem Staat, der sie reglementiert, vertrauen können. Gemeinsam können wir eine bessere Ausgewogenheit finden, die Massenüberwachung beenden und die Regierung daran erinnern: Wenn sie wirklich wissen will, was wir denken, ist Nachfragen immer günstiger als Spionieren. Zum dreißigsten Mal lädt der Chaos Computer Club (CCC) zum jährlichen internationalen Hackertreffen. Vom 27. bis 30. Dezember 2013 wird der Chaos Communication Congress (30C3) in Hamburg stattfinden. Wir heißen alle Interessierten willkommen!

Das Programm – bestehend aus über 130 Vorträgen – des 30C3 wurde dieses Jahr erstmalig von mehreren Experten-Teams, die jeweils für einen inhaltlichen Schwerpunkt verantwortlich waren, aus mehr als 360 Einreichungen ausgewählt: Hardware & Making, Art & Beauty, Science & Engineering, Security & Safety sowie Politics, Ethics & Society. Zusätzlich konnte eine Reihe von weiteren hochkarätigen Referenten eingeladen werden. Wie in den letzten Jahren werden Video-Streams der Vorträge angeboten. Ergänzt wird das Programm durch Workshop- und Junghacker-Angebote, welche im Vergleich zum Vorjahr noch stärker in den Fokus der Veranstaltung rücken.

Ein inhaltlicher Schwerpunkt liegt auf Fragen der Sicherheit von Hard- und Software. Einen besonderen Stellenwert im Programm haben in diesem Jahr natürlich auch die Enthüllungen von Edward Snowden und die dadurch bekanntgewordenen Überwachungsmaßnahmen der Geheimdienste und ihrer Lakaien, sowie Gegenmaßnahmen.

Die Keynote des 30C3 am Abend des 27. Dezember wird der Journalist Glenn Greenwald halten, dessen Arbeit mit den Snowden-Dokumenten es ganz wesentlich zu verdanken ist, daß wir im Jahr 2013 weitaus mehr als je zuvor über die weltumspannenden Überwachungsnetzwerke, die Techniken und die Denkweise der Überwacher erfahren haben.

Zusätzlich zum umfangreichen Vortrag- und Workshop-Programm wird auf dem 30C3 eine Vielzahl von teils spektakulären Hacking- und Kunstprojekten stattfinden. Zahlreiche Open-Source-Projekte nutzen den Congress für Treffen ihrer Mitstreiter und um neue Kontakte zu knüpfen. Zur Entspannung nach den inhaltlich dichten Tagen wird die 30C3-Lounge nachts von namhaften DJs und Musikern beschallt.

Die Internet-Außenanbindung des 30C3 wird dieses Jahr erstmalig die Rekordbandbreite von 100 GBit erreichen, die mit Hilfe von Sachspenden von Internetanbietern und Netzwerkausrüstern realisiert wird. Der 30C3 ist eine nicht-kommerzielle Veranstaltung, die von Freiwilligen des CCC organisiert und durchgeführt wird – auch um den Eintrittspreis so niedrig wie möglich zu halten. Der G-Man hat mich über das Thema im Jahr 2014 unterrichtet:

Ich weiss nicht so recht, was ich davon halten soll. Das Thema macht mich unsicher. Und ich hoffe doch wirklich, dass der G-Man weiterhin einen Plan hat, was er da mit mir anstellen will. Ob er mich an den Felsen der Hungersnot und Armut zerschellen lässt, auf die ich immer schneller zurase? Eigentlich sollte ich es ja wissen. Aber trotzdem. Vor mir liegt wieder so eine schwarze Klippe, und ich habe keine Ahnung, was da kommen mag. Aaargh.

Im kommenden Jahr findet wieder das Boom Festival statt. Dieses mal habe ich mich als Engel im Kosmicare beworben. Mal schauen, was daraus wird.

Vor einem Jahr stand ich vor diesem Portal. Nervös, was denn jetzt kommen möge. Ich hatte bereits Jahre zuvor im Detail über das bevorstehende Ereignis recherchiert. Eigentlich wusste ich genau, was kommen wird. Saturns Return.

Und verdammt Leute, ich bin nervös. Was kommt da auf mich zu? Mein Leben wird auf einen Prüfstein gelegt. Ob ich das bestehe? Es ist wie eine Achterbahnschiene. Irgendwann geht’s runter. Wird’s schlimm? Ich will noch gar nicht viel dazu sagen. Wir werden sehen.

Und wir sahen.
Ich bin froh, dass es diese astrologischen Ereignisse gibt. Besonders über Saturns Return bin ich sehr froh. Er gleist dich auf die richtige Spur ein, damit dein Leben auf den Schienen verläuft, auf denen es gedacht war zu verlaufen. Es ist sinnlos, ein anderes Leben zu leben.
