Stell Dir eine Spielwelt vor, die sich frei gestalten lässt. Mit mehreren Spielern. Das ist Minecraft.
Ein Spiel, das von der Aufmachung her ganz gut Minecraft ’95 heissen könnte und auch aus dieser Zeit stammen könnte – da wo Computerspiele noch innovativ waren.

Die Spielwelt ist zufällig generiert. Sie besteht aus 1m³ grossen Würfeln, bestehend aus Felsen, Dreck, Wasser, Sand und weiterem.

Und jetzt kann man hingehen und graben. Oder Klötzchen hinzufügen. Nicht nur ein Spieler kann das tun – mehrere Leute bauen an Schlössern, Schiffen, Untergrundminen, Freizeitparks und allen erdenklichen Dingen. Die Welt läuft weiter, auch wenn grad niemand verbunden ist. In der Nacht kommen Zombies & Skelette, vor denen man besser in Deckung geht…

Aus den bestehenden Materialien generiert man Werkzeuge, weitere Materialien oder Nahrung. Dies mit einem simplen, aber coolen Crafting-Prinzip:

Ich fälle einen Baum. Das gibt Holz.

Aus diesem Holz mache ich Bretter:

Zwei Bretter übereinander gibt Holzstäbe:

Zwei Stäbe und Steine, angeordnet in der Form einer Axt:

…ergeben meine Steinaxt!

Das funktioniert für alle Gegenstände so. Ein Kohlestück über einem Holzstab gibt eine Fackel. Sand in einem Ofen erwärmt gibt Glas.

Und so gestalten viele Spieler gleichzeitig eine Welt ihrer Fantasie, wie in einem riesigen Sandkasten.

Willkommen in unserer Welt! Mein Minecraft-Server läuft unter longneck.homeip.net – wer mitbauen will, soll sich melden, dann trage ich ihn in die weisse Liste ein.

Dies ist unsere Heimbasis:

Am Anfang war nur der Felsen. Ich habe das Minarett oben gebaut, um auszuloten, wie hoch man maximal bauen kann ( 🙂 ); die Festung rundherum kommt von einem anderen Mitspieler. Jaa, und so wächst die Welt…

Das spannende daran finde ich vorallem: Ou, die anderen waren am Nachmittag online – was haben sie wohl gebaut? Ooh cool, ein Piratenschiff:

Gleich geht die Sonne unter. Ich stehe übrigens auf dem selbst gebauten Sprungbrett am Affenfelsen:

Und wenn es schon einen höchsten Punkt gibt, muss ich auch den tiefsten Punkt ergründen:

Die Schilder sind übrigens cool. Da kann man Kommentare in der Landschaft hinterlassen („hier könnte man was cooles bauen“), oder ein virtuelles Geocaching veranstalten – der Fantasie sind keine Grenzen gesetzt!

Einziger Wehrmutstropfen: Minecraft ist (noch nicht) Opensource und basiert auf Java. Das ist auch der Grund, warum mein Lüfter immer Volldampf läuft und der Minecraft-Server maximal viel RAM frisst… 🙁
