Australische Polizei beim Raubkopieren erwischt

Während einer Untersuchung bei der südaustralischen Polizei tauchten auf den Computern zahlreicher Beamten illegale Filmkopien auf. Da zu viele Polizisten betroffen seien, sollen sie jedoch straffrei ausgehen, wie The Australian berichtet.

In einem internen E-Mail hieß es, dass die Untersuchung „eine Reihe von Fällen aufgedeckt hat, bei denen kommerzielle DVD-Filme auf die Festplatte von Polizeicomputern kopiert und möglicherweise wieder auf leere DVDs gebrannt wurden.“ Diese Praxis stelle möglicherweise eine Verletzung des Copyrights und einen Missbrauch der Polizeiausrüstung dar.

Wie die Zeitung aus Polizeikreisen erfahren habe, sei eine strafrechtliche Verfolgung nicht geplant, da zu viele Beamte in den Fall involviert seien. Seitens der Polizei sei lediglich sicherzustellen, dass derartige Praktiken gestoppt werden. Die Anti-Raubkopie-Organisation Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft fordert nun eine Erklärung von Polizeichef Mal Hyde für dieses Vorgehen.

Nach australischem Recht wird das widerrechtliche Kopieren von Filmen mit bis zu 60.500 Australischen Dollar (ca. 35.620 Euro) für Einzelpersonen, bzw. bis zu 302.500 Dollar (ca. 178.100 Euro) für Unternehmen und maximal fünf Jahren Haft bestraft.
