Es ist wieder ein heisser Film am Start: Cloverfield.

Soweit ich das gemäss Trailer beurteilen kann, sieht es ganz nach einer Mischung von „Amerika wird angegriffen“ und „Blair Witch Project“ aus. Aber genial gemacht!
Dabei ist die Story so simpel: Irgend ein Monster greift Amerika an. Der ganze Film wird aber mit Handykameras und Camcordern der Protagonisten erzählt und spielt im Jahre… 2008! Oder genauer gesagt am 18.1.2008, dem offiziellen Kinostart.

Besonders cool ist das ganze drumherum:

Der erste Teaser zu dem Film wurde erstmals vor Transformers gezeigt, dabei wurde der Titel nicht aufgedeckt. Es war lediglich ein Datum (01-18-08, oder 18. Januar 2008) zu sehen, was sich als Kinostart-Datum, aber auch als das Datum der Geschehnisse im Film herausgestellt hatte. Da kein anderer Titel bis hin zum zweiten Trailer bekannt gegeben wurde, galt das Datum (01-18-08) auch als ein vorübergehender Titel.
Am 19. November 2007 erschien der erste offizielle Trailer zum Film. Dort wird der Titel „Cloverfield“ offiziell bestätigt. Der Trailer ist mit einem Hinweis versehen, der darauf schließen lässt, die Videoaufnahmen seien erst viel später gefunden worden, und „Central Park“ existiere nicht mehr in seiner ursprünglichen Form: „Multiple sightings of case designate ‚Cloverfield‘. Camera retrieved at incident site ‚U.S. 447′ (Area formerly known as Central Park).“

Entstehung des Films zeichnete sich durch eine absolute Geheimhaltung aus. In Februar 2007, Paramount Pictures genehmigte insgeheim das „Cloverfield“ Projekt, das von der J. J. Abrams‘ Produktionsfirma Bad Robot Productions realisiert werden sollte. Der Casting-Prozess wurde ebenso geheim gehalten, die Kandidaten bekamen weder das Drehbuch, noch andere Informationen über den Film. Mit dem Budget von $30 Mio. begannen die Dreharbeiten im Sommer 2007 in New York.

Zu einem Hype verhalf jedoch nicht nur die Geheimhaltung seitens Paramount und J. J. Abrams, sondern auch die virale Marketingkampagne. J. J. Abrams nutzte bereits dieses Mittel, um die Zeit zwischen zwei „Lost“-Staffeln zu überbrücken und die Zuschauer immer im Schach zu halten, nämlich mit Online-ARG „The Lost Experience“.
Die dadurch gesammelten Erfahrungen habe bereits gezeigt, wie schnell die Online-Gemeinschaften darauf mit eigenen Theorien und Nachforschungen reagieren und damit dem Film eine große Werbung machen, ohne es zu intendieren.
Im Fall von „Cloverfield“ nutzte die Produktionsfirma die gleichen Mittel des Internets und eröffnete verschiedene Websites, die von den Fans nach und nach entdeckt wurden.

Als erste offizielle Seite gilt 01-18.08.com. Sie stellt eine Fotosammlung mit Personen des Films dar, mit denen der Zuschauer bereits aus dem ersten Trailer vertraut ist. Die Seite ist mit Flash-Technik realisiert, so dass sich die Fotoaufnahmen bewegen und umdrehen lassen. Die Fotoaufnahmen sind alle mit Datum- und Zeitangaben versehen und lassen sich somit chronologisch in zwei Kategorien unterteilen: Vor dem Monsterangriff und danach. Im ersten Fall werden die Party-Gäste aufgenommen, und auf der Rückseite jeder Fotoaufnahme stehen die persönlichen Botschaften an „Rob“. Die zweite Gruppe der Fotos zeigt den verheerenden Verlauf des Monsterangriffes. Der Monster selbst wird nicht abgebildet. Fast jeden Monat kommt ein neues Foto hinzu. Auf dem z.Z. letzten Foto ist ein japanischer Koch abgebildet, auf der Rückseite der Fotoaufnahme findet man ein Rezept, in japanischer Sprache verfasst. Außerdem kann man das Gebrüll des Monsters hören, wenn man die Seite sechs Minuten geöffnet lässt.

Alle zentralen Figuren des Films führen ihre eigenen Blogs im Sozialen Netzwerk MySpace. Im folgenden werden ihre Benutzerprofile aufgelistet und sind unter diesen Namen in MySpace zu finden:

Die Charaktere führen einen regen Gedankenaustausch untereinander und mit ihren Freunden.
Die Besondertheit liegt in der Interaktivität dieser Profile, d.h. die Fans des noch unbekannten Films haben bereits die Möglichkeit Kontakte mit fiktionalen Personen zu unterhalten, ihre Tagebücher zu kommentieren und (im Fall von HUD) sogar an einer interaktiven Comic-Geschichte zu gemeinsam schreiben.
Diese Interaktivität erlaubt auch, die Hintergründe bzw. Beziehungen zwischen verschiedenen Charakteren kennen zu lernen. Diese Blogs auf MySpace beinhalten keine Hinweise über das Wesen des Monsters, da die Erzählzeit in diesem Fall der erzählten Zeit gleicht und die Katastrophe erst in Januar 2008 stattfindet.

DAS ist mal was ganz neues! Ein Film, der in sehr naher Zukunft „Realität“ wird und einzelne Elemente mit dem Internet vermischt. Ich bin sehr gespannt!
