Früher bezeichneten wir Piloten als Cheater, welche dieses Ding einsetzen. Es zeigt nämlich optisch und akustisch das Steigen in der Thermik an.

Bis vor kurzem kamen wir wirklich wunderbar ohne damit zurecht. Bis wir nach Aesch fliegen wollten… Fast. Eben darum. In grosser Höhe sind die thermischen Winde nicht mehr so turbulent wie am Hausberg. Folglich ist es fast unmöglich, abzuschätzen, ob man sich jetzt im Steigen befindet oder ob man von 3m/s Sinken in 1m/s Sinken übergegangen ist. Und da ist genau das Problem: Sobald wir den Hausberg verlassen, sind wir auf Wolkenstrassen angewiesen, welche die Aufwinde markieren. Jedoch – hat es nicht immer Wolken!

Und darum piept es ab jetzt an meinem Bein. Denn seit gestern habe auch ich eines:

Ein Variometer.

Es misst kleinste Druckunterschiede und setzt diese akustisch um. Selbst Türknallen wird bereits als „Steigen“ interpretiert…

Am Hausberg nützt ein Vario aber so viel wie ein GPS auf der Autobahn. Das Wetter war heute wegen der starken Bisenlage nicht sooo der Hammer, und so hörte ich öfters Sinkalarm. Irgendwie deprimierend… jetzt erfahre ich von einer weiteren Stelle, dass es heute nur noch abwärts ging… Früher war es einfach nur ruhig und ich konnte hoffen, aber jetzt dröhnen knallharte Fakten in meine Ohren…
