Wenn ich am Kiosk die Regale mit den Computerfachzeitschriften überfliege, dann lauten die Schlagzeilen seit Jahren(!) meistens: „Windows – endlich sicher“ – „Windows entrümpeln“ – „Windows – so schnell wie noch nie!“ – „10 Tipps zur Wartung von Windows“.

Mein Gott, dieses DAU-Gebrunze hängt mir sowas vom Hals hinaus! Ich will nicht wissen, wie man sein Windows flickt. Erstens habe ich keins und zweitens ist das nur lästig. Diese Magazine werben mit dicken Schlagzeilen und billigen Heft-CDs mit viel Shareware-Schrott.

Gibt es denn keine hochstehende Informatikzeitschrift, die sich ein wenig mit allen Aspekten der Informatik befasst?

Doch, gibt es!

Und es nennt sich „iX – Magazin für professionelle Informationstechnik„. Dieses iX ist mir schon länger aufgefallen. Und dank meinen glücklichen Umständen habe ich mich schliesslich dazu bewogen, das Teil gleich zu Abonnieren. Und diese Investition hat sich mehr als gelohnt!

Zitat aus einem Erfahrungsbericht:

Die iX bietet für ihren Preis von 4,50 viel, aber nicht an Quanität, sondern an Qualität. Heft-CDs gibt es keine, dafür aber sehr gute, fundierte Artikel. Die Artikel haben ein hohes Niveau. Es wird nicht erklärt, was ein Button ist (Computer-Bild) oder wie man was im Optionsmenü eines Programmes ändert; PC-Welt und Chip verkaufen Tipps und Tricks, die keine besonderen Kniffe darstellen, oder hätten Sie vermutet, dass man unter Optionen die Einstellungen eines Programmes ändern kann?

Wer einen Server fürs Internet betreibt oder ein Netzwerk zu verwalten hat, der wird sich für die iX besonders interessieren. Internetapplikationen und Netzwerke sind häufig.
Die Praxisrubriken sind wahre Fundgruben. In Heft 10/2002 wird die Ein- und Ausgabeumleitung in der Unix-Shell (Bash, ash, tcsh etc.) vorgestellt und erklärt. OpenAFS als verteiltes Dateisystem fand sich im Praxisteil der selben Ausgabe. Und in Heft 12/2002 findet sich im Praxisteil ein Artikel zum GNU-Mailman sowie zum Befehl tar, sowie etwas zum DNS-Protokoll und zur OpenGL-3D-Programmierung.

Anhand dieser Artikel zeitgt sich, für wen sich das Heft besonders lohnt: 1. Programmierer, 2. Netzwerkadministratoren und 3. Unix-Anwender (Linux, BSD usw.), die ja hauptsächlicher Administrator sind. Das schöne ist, dass die iX-Redakteure nicht die Microsoft-Brille aufhaben. Linux-Anwender finden eine Menge Interessantes für sich.

Auch in der Aufmachung ist die iX hervorragend. Es ist nicht so protzig wie Chip und PC-Welt, die mit ihren billigen Heft-CDs werben. iX kommt ohne Heft-CD aus. Die Titelseite verrät die Hauptthemen, aber wirkt nicht aufdringlich. Und im Heft selbst finden sich schöne Grafiken und schöne Tabellen. Die Werbung in der iX ist nicht lästig. Sie richtet sich vor allem an die Hauptleser der iX. Eine Leserumfrage hat nämlich ergeben, dass v. a. Leute aus der Branche die iX lesen.

Jedes Heft der iX ist es wert, aufgehoben zu werden. Die Artikel sind niveauvoll, die Workshops sind hervorragend. Absolut empfehlenswert! „Versteht nicht jeder. Ist auch besser so!“ Mit diesem Spruch wirbt die iX.

JA! Das ist genau das was ich brauche.

Im aktuellen Heft wird z.B. erklärt, wie eigentlich die Provider funktionieren. Wir sind alle bei einem Provider angeschlossen. Und wie geht es dann weiter?
Oder die Gegenüberstellung verschiedener VPN-Lösungen mit ihren Vor- und Nachteilen.
Aber auch Windows-Administratoren kommen nicht zur kurz: Im aktuellen Heft wird das Netzwerkinstallationskonzept von Vista beschrieben.
Wie wirkt sich Spam auf die Provider aus? Wie sieht die Zukunft aus? Ein Bericht von einem GMX-Systemadministrator zeigt es auf.

Ausserdem erfährt man auch etwas über das neue Sicherheitskonzept von Vista, dass z.B. Programme nun Daten und Programmteil strikt trennen und mit Security-Cookies arbeiten und somit Pufferüberläufe nicht mehr möglich sind sein sollten (dafür läuft dann die Hälfte aller Windows-Programme nicht mehr *kicher*).

Ausserdem werden hier wirklich nützliche Dinge gezeigt. Dinge, für die man normalerweise Stunden im Google recherchieren müsste…

Die Autoren sind meistens Spezialisten aus der IT.

Zielgruppen sind professionelle Administratoren und Programmierer. Im Gegensatz zu ihrer Schwesterzeitschrift c’t zielt die iX also vollständig auf eine Fachleserschaft.

Ganz nach dem Motto: „Versteht nicht jeder. Ist auch besser so ;-)“
