Wieder ist ein Monat vorbei und es wird auch wieder wird es Zeit über das beste Buch des Monats zu schreiben. (für mich jedenfalls)

Das eindeutig beste Buch des Novembers ist: „IN EISIGEN HÖHEN“ von Jon Krakauer.

John Krakauer ist ein Amerikanischer Extrembergsteiger. (war es zumindest mal). Er unternahm schon in jungen Jahren schwierige Expetitionen nach Alaska, Patagonien und in die Alpen.
Als er heiratete, hängte er dann seiner Frau zuliebe den Klettergurt in den Kasten, vorübergehend. Denn wenn man einmal mit dem Bergsteiger-virus infisziert ist kommt da nicht mehr so schnell weg.
Ich selbst kann da überigens nur zustimmen. Für alle die es nicht wissen; Ich begann vor über einem Jahr mit dem Sportklettern.(das ist klettern an Natur- oder Kunstfels mit Partnersicherung, in mittelschweren oder schweren Routen. Mehrseillängige Routen in grossen Felswänden gehört auch zum Sportklettern. Diese ist für mich die schönste Art zu klettern!!)
In den Sommerferien 05 bin ich dann erstmals auf Hochtouren gegangen. Unter diesen Begriff fallen kombinierte Hochtouren in Schnee, Gletscher und Fels, und Beispielweise Gratbegehungen am kurzen Seil.
Obwohl ich nur den Piz Palü und dem Piz Morteratsch in einer kombinirter Hochtour bestiegen habe und mit meinem Kollegen das Tenbachhorn am kurzen Seil, bin ich schon zimlich auf Kletterfinken und Eispickel gestimmt. Meine Gedanken schweiffen immer wieder zu Gipfeln und Routen die ich gerne begehen würde und ich kann es kaum erwarten bis ich mir einen solchen Wunsch erfüllen kann.

Aber um wieder zum Buch zurück zu kommen, meine eigene alpinistische Aktivität war auch ein Grund weshalb ich dieses Buch gelesen habe.

Auf jeden Fall schrieb Krakauer in dieser Zeit Artikel für Amerikanische Outdoormagazine.
Eines Tages bekamm er die Offerte, den Mount Everest zu besteigen und einen Artikel über das Tun und Treiben am Everest zu schreiben. Welcher Bergsteiger, der so viel drauf hat wie Krakauer, würde Nein sagen?

Genug geschrieben. Jetzt die Beschreibung:

1996 nahm der amerikanische Journalist Jon Krakauer an einer Mount-Everest-Expedition teil. Das Unternehmen endete in einer Katastrophe, fünf von Krakauers Kameraden kamen auf tragische Weise in einem peitschenden Schneesturm ums Leben, er selbst konnte sich mit letzter Kraft in Sicherheit bringen. Minuziös und eindrucksvoll schildert er in diesem Bericht den Verlauf der Expedition. Er äußert sich außerdem kritisch über die Auswüchse des modernen Alpinismus mit seinen oft tödlichen Folgen, vermittelt aber zugleich einen Eindruck von der magischen Anziehungskraft und der Faszination des Bergsteigens.

Dieses Werk von Krakauer hat mich zutiefst berührt. Es ist ein Meisterwerk der Bergliteratur. Krakauer bringt das Drama am Everest hautnah herüber.
