Die meisten Bewohner sind nicht mehr in New Orleans und Umgebung. Sie sind vor dem Hurrikan Katrina geflohen.
Aber einige wollten ihr Haus doch nicht verlassen und schreiben jetzt im Internet über ihre Erlebnisse.
Viele von ihnen sind Blogger, wie Autoren eines Weblog genannt werden. Ein Weblog, kurz Blog, ist eine Webseite, die immer neue, chronologisch sortierte Einträge enthält. Es sind öffentliche Tage- und Notizbücher. Einträge können meist kommentiert und verlinkt werden.
Bei der Suchmaschine Technorati sind weltweit bereits mehr als 16 Millionen Blogs aufgeführt. Aus aller Welt treffen Kommentare in den Blogs ein, die über die Situation in und um New Orleans berichten.
Bilderflut
Viele Blog-Einträge und Kommentare zeugen von einem ungebrochenen Mitteilungsbedürfnis. Und wer nicht gerne schreibt, fotografiert, was gerade um ihn herum passiert.
Wer beim Bilderdienst Flickr nach Katrina sucht, findet bereits Aufnahmen, die Hobbyfotografen aufgenommen haben. Wenn in den kommenden Tagen der Strom wieder da ist und auch der Internetzugang, wird die Zahl der Bilder noch zunehmen.
Auch Zeitungen und Fernsehsender setzen während des Sturms auf Blogs. Der Fernsehsender WDSU berichtet im Katrina Blog mehrmals in der Stunde über neue Entwicklungen und bei CNN bloggt ein Korrespondent über seine Erlebnisse im Sturm.
Bürger als Journalisten
Zugleich fordert der Sender Zuschauer auf, ihre Geschichte an den Sender zu mailen und Fotos zu schicken. „Citizen Journalist“ (Bürgerjournalist) nennt der Sender die Rubrik, in der die Erlebnisse der Zuschauer veröffentlicht werden.
Doch vielen wird danach gar nicht zu Mute sein. Viele sorgen sich in den Kommentareinträgen der Blogs um ihre Angehörigen. Eine Frau sorgt sich um ihre Mutter, die in einem Altersheim lebt.
Durch ihren Kommentar im Blog bleibt die Geschichte nicht mehr nur das Schicksal eines Einzelnen. Die ganze Welt kann ganz ungefiltert daran teilnehmen.
