Ray (Tom Cruise) ist geschieden und sieht seine beiden Kinder Robbie (Justin Chatwin) und Rachel (Dakota Fanning) nur am Wochende. Er fühlt sich zusehends von ihnen genervt, versucht sich von jedweder Verantwortung zu drücken und kann daher nicht mehr gut mit ihnen umgehen. Plötzlich passieren unglaubliche Dinge. Blitze legen die gesamte Stromversorgung lahm, die Erde bebt und aus dem Untergrund erheben sich gigantische, von Aliens gesteuerte Killermaschinen, die ohne Vorwarnung damit beginnen die Menschen anzugreifen. Der Krieg der Welten hat begonnen, die Menschheit soll ausgerottet werden…
Tja Leute, so unglaublich diese Story auch klingen mag, so spannend wurde das Ganze inszeniert. Spielbergmässig halt…
Man könnte meinen, dass Half-life 2 eben verfilmt worden sei, es tauchen nämlich viele Parallelen zum Spiel auf.
Wer HL2 mag, darf sich auf ein weiteres Abenteuer freuen! Coole Wettereffekte, Erdbeben, Endzeitstimmung – aber auch spannende Hide & Seek Szenen fehlen nicht.
Wenn Aliens die ganze Menschheit ausrotten wollen, wird es halt Filmtechnisch schwierig, ein Happy-End hinzukriegen. Selbst ein Profi wie Spielberg hat das krampfhaft versucht…
Doch im Grossen und Ganzen ein wirklich sehenswerter Film.
