Das Europaparlament hat die umstrittene Richtlinie zu Software-Patenten mit grosser Mehrheit zurückgewiesen. *Aufatem*

Die umstrittene EU-Richtlinie zu Software-Patenten ist vom Tisch. Das Europaparlament konnte sich nicht auf eine einheitliche Regelung einigen und wies das EU-Gesetz mit überwältigender Mehrheit zurück. 648 Parlamentarier schmetterten die Richtlinie ab, 14 votierten dafür und 18 enthielten sich der Stimme.

Worum es geht: Ähnlich wie in den USA wollen Konzerne ihre Software patentieren lassen können. Sie sprechen von mehr Innovation und Wettbewerb. Die Gegner der Richtlinie hatten befürchtet, dass Software-Patente kleine Entwickler in den Bankrott treiben könnten und Patente Innovation hemmen würden.

Nach der Ablehnung im EU-Parlament gilt für Computer-Software weiter das Urheberrecht. Laut Medienberichten dürften Software-Patente damit endgültig vom Tisch sein.

Kurz: Wenn das durchgekommen wäre, hätte jemand (Microsoft) z.B. den Statusbalken patentieren lassen können. Und alle, die einen Statusbalken in ihrem selbstgeschriebenen Programm verwenden wollen, müssen Microsoft etwas zahlen. Etwas völlig hirnverbranntes, wie es zum Glück auch die EU-Parlamentarier eingesehen haben.
