In den Köpfen der meisten Menschen gilt Flugsport als riskant. Doch: Wenn’s angeblich so gefährlich sei, warum machen wir’s dann?

Der Reiz daran ist, einen Zustand zu erleben, den man normalerweise nicht erleben kann. Einerseits ist es die Ruhe, mit der der Schirm über den Boden gleitet – ganz ohne Kraftaufwand. Scheinbar werden wir von einer unsichtbaren Kraft geräuschlos vorwärtsgetrieben. Anderseits ist es die Spannung, die der Wind mit sich bringt – man weiss nie, wann er wechselt und wohin er einem trägt.

Gleitschirmfliegen ist doch ein typischer Informatikersport: Ohne Kraftaufwand 3000 Meter überwinden! Und doch hat man die Kontrolle über jedes Detail.
Apropos Höhenangst: Man sitzt gut angegurtet in einem bequemen Sitz. Es ist wie Sesselliftfahren – aber steuerbar! Einzig und allein der Pilot bestimmt über das Flugverhalten – ob ruhig und sanft über Wiesen und Wälder gleitend – oder halsbrecherisch in einer Steilspirale dem Boden entgegenwirbelnd – jeder fliegt nach seinem Können und seinen Interessen.

Ich behaupte, Gleitschirmfliegen ist die sicherste Sportart der Welt: Man kann nirgendwo anprallen, rundherum nur Luft, und auch die körperliche Anstrengung hält sich sehr in Grenzen. Kein Muskelkater, keine Überbeanspruchung der Gelenke. Doch geistig ist man gefordert: Wo ist die nächste Termik? Auch muss man richtig reagieren, wenn mal der Schirm zusammenklappt (das ist übrigens normal und nicht weiter tragisch – kann aber für hübsche Adrenalinstösse sorgen 😉

Abheben, die Sorgen am Boden lassen. Freiheit spüren. Und über den Wolken mit dem Schirm eins werden. Darum fliegen wir.

Es müssen aber nicht immer gleich fünf Kilometer über dem Boden sein; Gleitschirmfliegen kann man auch am Boden betreiben. Ich behaupte, dass das sogar noch mehr Spass machen kann, schaut mal in dieses Video rein: [Link] (Gegen Schluss, 16:10min)
