In ihrem Feldzug gegen Tauschbörsenanwender ist die Musikindustrie in ein weiteres Fettnäpfen getreten. Sie reichte Klage gegen die verstorbene 83-jährige Gertrude Walton ein.
Die RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) macht auch vor Toten nicht halt: Laut The Register hat der Interessensverband Klage gegen die 83-jährige Amerikanerin Gertrude Walton eingereicht. Der Grund: Sie soll mehr als 700 Songs im Internet angeboten haben. Nur leider ist Gertrude Walton bereits letzten Dezember verstorben. «Ich bin sicher sie wird den Greenwood Memorial Park (-Friedhof) nicht verlassen, um am Gerichtstermin zu erscheinen», meinte ihre Tochter Robin Chianumba zynisch. Ausserdem soll Gertrude Walton Computer gehasst haben. Die RIAA will nun die Klage fallen lassen.
Bereits 2003 sorgte die Musikindustrie für negative Presse als sie ein zwölfjähriges Mädchen verklagte, das eine MP3-Datei von ihrer Lieblingsfernsehsendung auf seiner Festplatte hatte. Die Eltern der «Täterin» mussten rund 2000 US-Dollar Vergleichsgeld zahlen.
