Der Bastard Operator From Hell (BOFH) ist eine jener Internetlegenden, über die man früher oder später stolpert. Die von Simon Travaglia geschriebene Geschichte um einen SysOp, der genau weiß, wie er seine User in Schach hält, gehört heute zur Pflichtlektüre angehender Systemadministratoren.
In Travaglias Geschichten wird der BOFH immer wieder von seinen Benutzern genervt, mit mehr oder weniger sinnvollen Fragen. Aus Rache, und damit die Benutzer ihn nicht weiter nerven, quält er sie – manchmal bis in den Tod. Als Inspiration nimmt er dabei den Ausredenkalender BOFH Excuse. Die häufigste Art der Tortur besteht darin, alle Dateien des Benutzers zu löschen. Dass die Backups unbrauchbar oder inexistent sind, dafür sorgt der BOFH ebenfalls.
Gefunden auf einem neuseeländischen FTP-Server zu einer Zeit, als die meisten von euch noch nicht mal wußten, dass man Komputer mit K schreibt.
Als Gag wird oben zufällig ein Satz aus dem BOFH-Excuse Ausredenkalender eingeblendet. Nur so für den Fall…

Schon wieder klingelt
das Telefon.
„Ich brauche mehr Platz sagt er.“
„Warum ziehen Sie nicht in den Osten?“
„Quatsch, in meinem Account, Sie Idiot.“
Idiot? Oh-oh… „Es tut mir so leid“, sage ich wie Mutter Beimer in der
Lindenstrasse „aber ich hab das nicht ganz mitgekriegt. Was sagten Sie
doch gleich?“
Ich kann die aufkommende Angst durch die Leitung riechen. Aber es ist
zu spaet: er ist erledigt und er weiss es.
„-hm, ich sagte, haette gerne etwas mehr Speicherplatz in meinem
Account bitte.“
„Aber klar. Augenblick mal.“
Ich hoere ihn erleichtert aufatmen, obwohl er die Sprechmuschel mit der Hand
abdeckt. „Erledigt. Sie haben massig Platz jetzt.“
„Wieviel?“
Das geht mir nun wirklich auf den Keks! Nicht nur dass sie dauernd
Speicherplatz von mir fordern, Sie wollen mich auch noch kontrollieren und
protestieren, wenn ich Ihnen nicht genug gebe. Sie sollten gluecklich sein
mit dem, was es von mir gibt, und basta! Wieder mit Mutter Beimer:
„Also, schaun wir mal. Sie haben 60 MB frei.“
„Klasse! 120 MB zusammen. Vielen Dank!“, sagte er begeistert von seiner
Verhandlungstechnik.
„Moment!“ unterbreche ich. Das muss man geniessen wie einen Suedaustralischen
bei Raumtemperatur. „60 MB insgesamt.“
„Was? Ich habe doch schon 60 MB belegt. Wie kann ich dann noch 60 MB
frei haben?“
Ich sage nichts. Ist auch nicht noetig. Er wird schon noch drauf kommen.
„Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrggggghhhhhh!“
