Ein bestechender Gedanke – der allerdings auch all jenen gefallen dürfte, die für den Zugriff auf private Daten bereit sind, jeden Preis zu bezahlen.

Wenn es nach dem Internet-Giganten Google geht, dann gehört die Suche über Display oder Tastatur bald der Vergangenheit an. Stattdessen sollen die Nutzer in einen direkten Dialog mit der Suchmaschine treten und dadurch noch bessere Ergebnisse erhalten. Ermöglicht werden soll der direkte Kontakt über Mikrofone in allen Räumen des Hauses und über Mikrochips im Kopf der Nutzer. Dies sagte der leitende Ingenieur von Google, Scott Huffman, dem Independent.

„Stellen Sie sich vor, ich könnte zu einem Mikrofon im Raum sagen: ‚ Zeig mir die Zusammenfassung des gestrigen Football-Spiels auf dem Fernseher im Wohnzimmer‘. Und es funktioniert, da durch die Cloud alles miteinander verbunden ist“, sagt Huffman.

Zusätzlich konnte eine Reihe von weiteren hochkarätigen Referenten eingeladen werden. Wie in den letzten Jahren werden Video-Streams der Vorträge angeboten. Ergänzt wird das Programm durch Workshop- und Junghacker-Angebote, welche im Vergleich zum Vorjahr noch stärker in den Fokus der Veranstaltung rücken.

Ein inhaltlicher Schwerpunkt liegt auf Fragen der Sicherheit von Hard- und Software. Einen besonderen Stellenwert im Programm haben in diesem Jahr natürlich auch die Enthüllungen von Edward Snowden und die dadurch bekanntgewordenen Überwachungsmaßnahmen der Geheimdienste und ihrer Lakaien, sowie Gegenmaßnahmen.

Die Keynote des 30C3 am Abend des 27. Dezember wird der Journalist Glenn Greenwald halten, dessen Arbeit mit den Snowden-Dokumenten es ganz wesentlich zu verdanken ist, daß wir im Jahr 2013 weitaus mehr als je zuvor über die weltumspannenden Überwachungsnetzwerke, die Techniken und die Denkweise der Überwacher erfahren haben.

Zusätzlich zum umfangreichen Vortrag- und Workshop-Programm wird auf dem 30C3 eine Vielzahl von teils spektakulären Hacking- und Kunstprojekten stattfinden. Zahlreiche Open-Source-Projekte nutzen den Congress für Treffen ihrer Mitstreiter und um neue Kontakte zu knüpfen. Zur Entspannung nach den inhaltlich dichten Tagen wird die 30C3-Lounge nachts von namhaften DJs und Musikern beschallt.

Die Internet-Außenanbindung des 30C3 wird dieses Jahr erstmalig die Rekordbandbreite von 100 GBit erreichen, die mit Hilfe von Sachspenden von Internetanbietern und Netzwerkausrüstern realisiert wird. Der 30C3 ist eine nicht-kommerzielle Veranstaltung, die von Freiwilligen des CCC organisiert und durchgeführt wird – auch um den Eintrittspreis so niedrig wie möglich zu halten. Vor einem Jahr stand ich vor diesem Portal. Nervös, was denn jetzt kommen möge. Ich hatte bereits Jahre zuvor im Detail über das bevorstehende Ereignis recherchiert. Eigentlich wusste ich genau, was kommen wird. Saturns Return.

Und verdammt Leute, ich bin nervös. Was kommt da auf mich zu? Mein Leben wird auf einen Prüfstein gelegt. Ob ich das bestehe? Es ist wie eine Achterbahnschiene. Irgendwann geht’s runter. Wird’s schlimm? Ich will noch gar nicht viel dazu sagen. Wir werden sehen.

Und wir sahen.
Ich bin froh, dass es diese astrologischen Ereignisse gibt. Besonders über Saturns Return bin ich sehr froh. Er gleist dich auf die richtige Spur ein, damit dein Leben auf den Schienen verläuft, auf denen es gedacht war zu verlaufen. Es ist sinnlos, ein anderes Leben zu leben.

Was müssen wir tun, um in Zeiten globaler Überwachung das Netz widerstandsfähiger und sicherer zu machen? In einem Interview in der aktuellen Ausgabe von Technology Review beklagt Jacob Appelbaum, dass Firmen und die US-Regierung zu großen Einfluss auf vitale Teile des Internets hätten. „Das müssen wir ändern. Dafür brauchen wir nicht das alte System vollständig aufzugeben, aber wir müssen es erweitern.“ Vor allem müsse es mithilfe von Peer-to-Peer-Netzwerken dezentralisiert werden und durch alternative Namensverzeichnisse wie GNS die derzeitige Hoheit von Verisign bei der Namensvergabe von Adressen aufzuteilen.

Appelbaum sieht als großen Schwachpunkt in der globalen Kommunikation das derzeitige E-Mail-System. „Diese Technologie ist nicht gut genug.“ Sie biete Privatsphäre „auf dem Niveau des 19. Jahrhunderts“, so Appelbaum. Es gebe keine Möglichkeit, E-Mail in der derzeitigen Form sicher zu machen. Auch das Verschlüsselungsverfahren PGP sei keine Alternative, „weil es nicht hundertprozentig sicher und zudem ein Albtraum in Sachen Benutzerfreundlichkeit ist.“

Zuversichtlich ist Appelbaum hinsichtlich Verschlüsselung. „Ich glaube nicht, dass es der NSA gelingen wird, unsere besten Verschlüsselungssysteme zu knacken. Die Mathematik ist zu gut.“ Trotzdem müssten noch manche Probleme gelöst werden, zum Beispiel das der Folgenlosigkeit und des Schutzes der Metadaten. Das größte Problem sieht Appelbaum aber nicht in der Verschlüsselungstechnik sondern im Zugang zu ihr: „Sichere Verschlüsselung muss Standard sein – und zwar in jedem Smartphone.“

Ein neues Internet muss her! Aktuell pusten wir unsere Daten standardmässig im Klartext durchs Netz. In Zeiten, wo die NSA global alles abhört und aufzeichnet. Tragisch, dass die Verschlüsselung der Netze nicht standard ist.

Eigentlich sollte jeder seine Alltagskommunikation verschlüsseln. Wir müssen an die Folgen unseres Handelns für die Gesellschaft denken. Nicht jeder Inhalt einer WhatsApp-Nachricht ist hochsensibel. Darum geht es aber auch gar nicht. Indem wir unsere Kommunikation verschlüsseln, tragen wir dazu bei, dass es zu einer sozialen Norm wird. Verschlüsselte Nachrichten werden dann als normal akzeptiert.

Wieso ist das wünschenswert?
