Artificial Intelligence provides a conceptual framework to understand mind and universe in new ways, clearing the obstacles that hindered the progress of philosophy and psychology. Let us see how AI can help us to understand how our minds create the experience of a universe.

Unlike the machine learning systems of the past, minds are not just classifiers or policy optimizers. Minds are not accumulators of knowledge about the world. Minds are generative systems: they actively produce the world that we subjectively experience. Ordinary day-time experiences are in fact dreams constrained by sensory data. This simple insight of contemporary cognitive science turns realist notions of embodiment on their head. The idea of the brain as a dreaming machine opens a way to understand the nature of our experiences.

This is the proposed fourth installment of a series of presentations about using AI perspectives to understand minds and their relationship to the universe. „How to build a mind“ (30c3) suggested specifications for an architecture of cognition; „From computation to consciousness“ (31c3) explored the mind’s computational foundations; „Computational metapsychology“ (32c3) discussed the individual and social construction of meaning. „Machine dreams“ sketches how the computational machinery of our brains leads to our experience a subjective world. We will look at the conductor theory of consciousness, some of the mental structures contributing to our models of self and world, and the unreasonable effectiveness of neural processes in modeling physics.

YESS! Das Boomfestival wird weiterexistieren! Die Organisatoren konnten einen zusätzlichen Kredit aufnehmen und zusammen mit den Erträgen aus dem Crowdfunding kam der Kauf dieses heiligen Stück Landes in Portugal zustande. Grossartig!

We are currently living in 2 worlds that mark the past, present and future of the Boom Festival. While some members of our team are dismantling what’s left of the 2016 edition and working on post-production, others are taking care of the agreement deal for the purchase of the Boomland. We are happy to share that the land is now ours! It has been a truly emotional rollercoaster for us. We feel deeply tired yet very happy about what’s happened during the Full Moon of August; at the same time, we feel a sense of accomplishment for giving Boom a home after seven years of intense work and resilience, 19 years after the festival’s birth.

Pädophile scheinen nur im Zusammenhang mit sexuellem Missbrauch zu existieren. Dass Pädophile eine Gabe haben könnten, ist ein Tabu. Als ob es keine Gabe wäre, Kinder in ihrem Wesenskern zu kennen, sich in ihre Lebenserfahrung hineinzuversetzen, ohne sie zu verniedlichen. Als ob es keine Gabe wäre, mit Kindern eine Seelengemeinschaft zu bilden, in der sie wertgeschätzt und gewürdigt werden.

Nur wenn man Pädophilie aus dem Zusammenhang entfernt, ist es möglich, über diese Gaben zu reden. Ein paar Beispiele: „Du kommst so gut mit Kindern klar!“ „Jack fühlt sich immer so geborgen bei dir“, „Ich bin sehr froh, dass du mit ihr gesprochen hast. Sie ist viel umgänglicher.“ „Sieh nur! Es geht ihm so viel besser, jetzt, wo du da bist.“ „Sie sitzt sonst niemandem auf den Schoss, ausser bei dir.“ „Und schon hängen die Kinder wieder an dir!“ Das sind alles Aussagen, die zu Pädophilen gesagt wurden. Diese Begabungen können nur erwähnt werden, solange wir sie nicht mit einem Pädophilen verbinden. Dennoch haben diese Talente von Pädophilen viele Schulen und Verbände bereichert. Ich sage euch: Diese Begabungen existieren.
