Eine schockierende Studie hat neulich herausgefunden, dass nur 13% der Professoren an der Stanford Universität Republikaner sind. Die Autoren vergleichen das mit den 51% der Wahl von 2004, wo die Wähler einen Republikaner als Präsidenten gewählt hatten und verargumentieren dies als „Beweis für die Diskriminierung“ und dass „akademische Republikaner von akademischen Demokraten ausgerottet werden“.
So beängstigend das auch ist, meine vorausgehende Recherche hat noch mehr schockierende Fakten zu Tage gebracht. Ich habe festgestellt, dass nur 1% der Stanford-Professoren an Telepathie glauben (definiert als „Kommunikation zwischen Menschen ohne die gewöhnlichen fünf Sinne“), im Vergleich zu 36% der Allgemeinbevölkerung. Weniger als ein halbes Prozent glauben, dass „Menschen auf der Erde vom Teufel besessen sind“, im Vergleich zu 49% der Bevölkerung ausserhalb des Elfenbeinturms. Und während 25% der Amerikaner an Astrologie glauben („Einfluss der Position der Sterne und Planeten auf das Leben der Menschen“), konnte ich nur einen Stanford-Professor finden, der dem zustimmen würde. (Alle Zahlen stammen von Meinungsumfragen, von Sokal durchgeführt.)
Dieser haarsträubende Mangel an intellektueller Vielfalt ist eine ernsthafte Bedrohung für unsere Jugend, welche stillschweigend der Propaganda von Anti-Astrologen unterworfen ist, statt mit unterschiedlichen Betrachtungsweisen konfrontiert zu werden. Würde ich aufdecken, dass keine Schwarzen an der Stanford Fakultät unterrichten, wäre die politisch korrekte Fraktion sofort Sturm gelaufen. Aber die haben kein Problem damit, zukünftige Fakultätsmitglieder auszuschliessen, deren Ansichten sie nicht teilen.
Sicher, mag man sagen, ist die Hautfarbe für die Pflichten eines Professors irrelevant, während Glaubenssätze der Kern derer Arbeit ist. Und diesen Kritikern kann man nur entgegnen: Ihr „Wissens“-Elitisten habt die vernichtende Kritik über Faktenwissen der Postmodernisten ignoriert! Die objektive Realität ist unkennbar, unsere Glaubenssätze sind maximal Teilwahrheiten; kulturelle Launen, die wir im Augenblick nicht ändern können. Die einzige Art und Möglichkeit, zu entscheiden, was gelehrt wird, ist anhand von dem, was geglaubt wird!
Aber diese linksaussen-Akademiker ignorieren diese vernichtenden Kritiken einfach. Sie machen einfach weiter und sagen, ihr Job ist es, die „Realität“ zu untersuchen, und sie glauben Dinge, die auf Beweisen basieren, wogegen jeder sehen kann, dass diese Beweise doch nur Rechtfertigungen für sie selber sind, damit sie ihre Macht und ihren gesellschaftlichen Status erhalten können. Und, wie schon mehrfach belegt, ihre fortgeschrittenen „Berufungskommissionen“ und „Anforderung an die Rekrutierung“ sind bloss Wege, zu verhindern, dass Nonkonformisten ihre Orthodoxien in Frage stellen.
Die Partei von McCarthy muss die akademische Freiheit retten. Wohlhabende Geschäftsmänner müssen ihre Mittel bündeln, um diesem Elitismus entgegenzuwirken. Rassisten und Sexisten müssen den Wert der Vielfalt bekannt machen. Konservative die Postmoderne annehmen. Harte Arbeit? Keine Frage. Aber sie sind mutig dazu bereit, ihre Glaubwürdigkeit dem Schutz und Erhalt der Jugend zu opfern. Wir sollten ihren Mut begrüssen und ehren.

I’m an expert on how technology hijacks our psychological vulnerabilities. That’s why I spent the last three years as a Design Ethicist at Google caring about how to design things in a way that defends a billion people’s minds from getting hijacked.
When using technology, we often focus optimistically on all the things it does for us. But I want to show you where it might do the opposite.
Where does technology exploit our minds’ weaknesses?
I learned to think this way when I was a magician. Magicians start by looking for blind spots, edges, vulnerabilities andlimits of people’s perception, so they can influence what people do without them even realizing it. Once you know how to push people’s buttons, you can play them like a piano.
And this is exactly what product designers do to your mind. They play your psychological vulnerabilities (consciously and unconsciously) against you in the race to grab your attention.
I want to show you how they do it.
Hijack #1: If You Control the Menu, You Control the Choices
Western Culture is built around ideals of individual choice and freedom. Millions of us fiercely defend our right to make “free” choices, while we ignore how those choices are manipulated upstream by menus we didn’t choose in the first place.
This is exactly what magicians do. They give people the illusion of free choice while architecting the menu so that they win, no matter what you choose. I can’t emphasize enough how deep this insight is.
When people are given a menu of choices, they rarely ask:
„what’s not on the menu?“
„why am I being given these options and not others?“
„do I know the menu provider’s goals?“
„is this menu empowering for my original need, or are the choices actually a distraction?“ (e.g. an overwhelmingly array of toothpastes)

Gemütliche Strohballenhäuser halten die Temperaturen im Winter warm und im Sommer kühl. Komposttoiletten und biologische Wasseraufbereitungsanlagen verwandeln Abfallstoffe zurück in Nährstoffe. Auf der ganzen Welt haben sich Menschen zu Kommunen zusammengeschlossen und leben in ihren natürlichen Kulturkreisen, jede mit ihren Eigenarten und Spezialitäten. Überregional schliesst man sich zu einer Föderation zusammen, die immer aus wechselnden Mitgliedern der Kommunen besteht. Manchmal gehen Kinder zur Föderation und vertreten ihre Interessen. Sie haben eine Stimme und werden als vollwertiges Mitglied der Gesellschaft gezählt und respektiert, denn sie können uns vieles zeigen. Jeder Mensch findet irgendwo seine Aufgabe, ist aber nicht gezwungen, nach einer zu suchen, oder seine Tätigkeit mit anderen zu vergleichen und messen. Da gibt es Milchhändler, Imker, Netzwerkspezialisten, Händler, Schreiner, Geschichtenerzähler, Musiker, Tierfreunde und Gärtner – oder gleich Menschen mit allem zusammen. So genaue Grenzen wie „einen Beruf“ gibt es nicht. Wir sind nicht am arbeiten, sondern am spielen. Talente werden spontan entdeckt und weiterverfolgt, in dem man einander über die Schulter schaut. Wissen wird in Gilden ausgetauscht, und es gibt Gilden (Zusammenschlüsse) von und für fast jede Art von Tätigkeitsgebiet. Klassisch: Die Handwerkergilde. Es war ja so, und für mich ist es normal, die Geschehnisse so zu beschreiben, wie sie sind, damit man den Fehler möglichst schnell eingrenzen und das Problem beheben kann. Aber so langsam realisiere ich, dass das gar nicht so normal ist, gemäss der Aussage meines Vermieters. Was muss das für Rotz gewesen sein, der da als Vormieter gehaust hat. Leute, die glauben, sich mit Geschichten und Ausreden kurzzeitig Vorteile zu verschaffen? Natürlich war es meine Schuld, die Kosten nehme ich auf meine Kappe.
Auf lange Sicht zahlt sich diese Investition in die Wahrheit mehr aus. Es baut Vertrauen auf. Sollte irgendwann wieder mal etwas sein, glaubt mir der Vermieter. Das ist mir mehr Wert, als die kurzfristige Einsparung. Ich kann die Wahrheit sagen, und man glaubt mir auch. So richtig realisiere ich das erst jetzt, wie viel Wert das eigentlich ist, und die Geschichte versprüht ein warmes Nachglühen, an das ich mich gerne erinnere. Was so etwas „Belangloses“ für eine Wirkung hat und für Weichen stellen kann!

Die Filmemacher Markus Fiedler und Frank-Michael Speer weisen in ihrer Dokumentation „Die dunkle Seite der Wikipedia“ nach, dass hinter der Struktur der deutschsprachigen Wikipedia ein Geheimdienst spezieller Personenkreis agiert, der es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht hat oder womöglich auch beauftragt wurde, jegliche Kritiker US-amerikanischer Politik zu diskreditieren. Die Leistung der beiden Filmemacher besteht vor allem darin, die anonymen Wächter zu enttarnen.
Uns interessierte es, ob die Online-Enzyklopädie objektiv und neutral mit Kritikern der US Aussenpolitik wie z.B. Dr. Daniele Ganser umgeht. So viel sei vorweggenommen: Leider ist dies nicht der Fall.
Ganser ist in der Friedensbewegung engagiert und steht den Kriegen der NATO wie auch dem Überwachungsstaat kritisch gegenüber.
Wer diesen Dokumentarfilm anschaut, lernt nicht nur etwas über Zeitgeschichte und den Schweizer Historiker Ganser, sondern vor allem etwas über das Innerste der Wikipedia, dem System, dass der heute wichtigsten Enzyklopädie innewohnt.

„Unser Planet in unserem Sonnensystem“ lautet die Überschrift in einem Sachbuch, welches ich mal zu Weihnachten geschenkt bekommen habe. Die Erde. Die Sonne. Die Milchstrasse. Alles ist dort erklärt. Welche Gase und Metalle in welcher Menge auf welchen Planeten vorkommen. Das Klima. Ebbe und Flut.
Doch, warum ist das alles so, wie es ist? Wie ist es dazu gekommen? Die Universe Sandbox lädt zum spielen ein; das Universum als riesiger Sandkasten, mit allen physikalischen Details simuliert.
Setzen wir doch mal eine zweite Sonne in unser Sonnensystem.
Abgesehen von den zwei Schatten, die ich jetzt werfen würde, lenkt die zweite Sonne die Erste aus ihrer Bahn.
