Steve Pavlina hat ein interessantes Experiment gewagt. 30 Tage am Stück im Disneyland verbringen. Seine Erkenntnisse sind beängstigend.

Gefühlsmanipulation

Während den letzten zehn Tagen dieses Experiments begann ich zu sehen, wie die verschiedenen Stücke von Disneyland sich zusammenfügen. Wie die Darbietungen und Paraden Gefühle in den Menschen wecken, mit Disneyfiguren. Diese Menschen kaufen dann tonnenweise Fanartikel dieser Figuren in den benachbarten Läden. Gegen Schluss des Experiments, als das Disneyland zur Routine verkam, fühlte sich alles weniger spontan und spassig an, sondern mehr und mehr gekünstelt.

Als mir das bewusst wurde, verfing ich mich weniger in die emotionalen Aspekte. Ich hörte grösstenteils auf, Fahrgeschäfte aus Spass zu besuchen und studierte sie stattdessen auf eine andere Weise. Was ist der Zweck dieser Attraktion aus Disney’s Perspektive? Wie ist es gestaltet, um die Gefühle der Menschen zu verlagern? Welche Essensstände sind nach jeder Bahn zu finden? Was denkt Disney, was die Leute als nächstes tun werden?

Gefühle

Weil Disneyland als Gefühlswelt geschaffen wurde, habe ich die grösste Veränderung in der Beziehung zu meinen Gefühlen wahrgenommen. Als ich sah, wie deftig Disney die Gefühle der Menschen manipuliert, wie ein Puppenspieler, begann ich, mehr auf meine Gefühle zu achten und wie Disney versucht, wie ich mich jetzt fühlen soll.

Das war wie eine Meditation. Aber anstatt meine Gedanken zu beobachten, habe ich meine Gefühle und die Auslöser, die sie verursachen, beobachtet. Je mehr ich meine Gefühle beobachtete, desto weniger beeinflussten sie mein Verhalten.

Ich sah den grossen Mickey-Maus Kopf hinter dem Wasser. Vermutlich bewusst und absichtlich dort platziert, damit die Leute ihre Gefühle mit Disneys bekanntester Marke verbinden. Ich beobachtete die Menge. Ich schaute und hörte die „uuuuhs“ und „ooooohs“ der Leute. Und ich dachte:

Wow… Disney besitzt diese Menschen. Der Grad ihrer Unterwerfung ist beträchtlich.

Diese Erfahrung hat mich dazu gebracht, zu schauen, wie sehr mein Leben durch Gefühlskonditionierung beeinflusst ist. Jedes Spielzeug, das ich je besass, jede Fernsehserie oder jeden Film, den ich sah, jedes Album, das ich kaufte – die sind alle getrieben durch Gefühle und dem Verlangen nach Reiz.

Das erklärt ja einiges. Jetzt wird mir auch klar, warum die Leute Zeitung lesen. „Sich informieren“ ist dabei nur ein Vorwand. In Wahrheit geht es um das Verlangen nach Reizbefriedigung. Emotionen, Gefühle!

Und was sind die stärksten Reize? Die Negativen. Das erklärt noch mal einiges.

blick.ch – „Diese Frau starb.“ „Mann wütet mit Schlachtmesser auf Campus in Ohio.“ Dann geht es noch um Singles, Autos, Belanglosigkeiten. Sportmannschaften, Gewinner, Gegner. Ganz ganz ganz Übel.

Zu Archivzwecken mache ich hier mal eine Ausnahme und speichere einen Screenshot dieses Saftblatts. Es ist 2016, und so sahen die Zeitungen damals aus:

Mich regen Zeitungen auf, darum lese ich sie nicht. Dumm nur, im Bus flimmern seit ein paar Jahren Displays mit Schlagzeilen und Bildern. Es lässt sich fast nicht vermeiden, dass mein Blick manchmal daran kleben bleibt. Widerlich! Ich würde diese Bildschirme am liebsten zerschmettern und einschlagen oder mit einem schwarzen Abdeckband und Panzerfolie einkleistern.

Aber ich werde emotional. Und darum geht es wohl. Wir sollen uns aufregen. Wir sollen in Angst leben. Das ist das Ziel dieser Medienunternehmen. Gefühlsmanipulierung.

Hoffnung

Während den letzten Tagen pendelten meine Gefühle zwischen Enttäuschung und Hoffnung hin und her. Ich sah Dinge in diesen 30 Tagen, die mich über die Zukunft der Menschheit beunruhigen. Bei mehreren Ereignissen habe ich mich gefragt, wie intelligent die menschliche Spezies wirklich ist… und ob sie wirklich damit assoziiert werden möchte. Es sieht so aus, als ob der Walt Disney Konzern bloss die Gefühle der Menschen manipuliert, um aus ihnen Profit zu erwerben, und die meisten Leute kümmert das nicht, oder sie bemerken es nicht einmal.

Ebenso könnte ich den Fakt bejammern, dass die Leute so viel mehr Geld für Disney- und Chinaprodukte und für gesundheitsschädigenden Junkfood ausgeben, anstatt es in Bildung und Selbstentwicklung zu investieren.

Es endete damit, dass ich mich über bestimmte Aspekte der Gesellschaft sehr Urteilend fühlte, und gleichzeitig froh daüber war, dass ich mit diesen Aspekten für den Rest meines Lebens nicht täglich interagieren muss. Wäre ich länger in dieser Umgebung geblieben, hätte ich mich schnell depressiv, abgespannt und hoffnungslos gefühlt. Da es aber bloss ein kurzes eintauchen und wieder auftauchen war, fühle ich mich grösstenteils inspiriert.

Besonders glücklich bin ich, dass der Grossteil meiner normalen Kommunikation ausserhalb der Disney-Sphäre mit klugen, wachstumsorientierten Menschen stattfindet. Menschen, die einen positiven Unterschied in der Welt machen möchten. Ich schätze diese Menschen jetzt umso mehr.

Ablenkung

Allgemein versucht Disney, die hässlichen Teile der Gesellschaft zu verstecken. Mehrfach sah ich Angestellte, wie sie den Besucherstrom um unangenehme Dinge wie z.B. ein kotzendes Kind umlenkten. Sie sagen nicht, was passiert ist, sondern nur, dass man hier gerade nicht langgehen kann. Manchmal formen sie ein menschliches Schutzschild, so dass man fast nichts sehen kann. Wie die Wächter der Fantasie. Immer, wenn etwas passiert, was diese Fantasie zerbrechen könnte, wie z.B. eine Frau auf einer Barre, die gerade von einem Arzt betreut wird, sah ich diese Wächter kommen. „Gehen Sie bitte weiter, hier gibt es nichts zu sehen.“

Ich sehe schon, es muss eine richtige Herausforderung für Disney sein, diese Fantasiewelt in einer Welt von echten Menschen aufrecht zu erhalten. Aber sie sind richtig gut darin, das zu verstecken, was diese Fantasie zum Bersten bringen könnte.
