Donnerstag, Tag 0. Ich setze mich an einen Tisch im Central Plaza und blättere im Dharma Dragon. Das ist die festivaleigene Zeitung; mit den Hintergründen über das Boom, Zahlen und Fakten und Erläuterungen über die Bedeutungen von Kunstinstallationen, Riten und Symbolen.

Ein paar Deutsche gesellen sich zu mir an den Tisch. „Dein erstes Boom?“ „Ja.“ „Dies ist mein Drittes.“ „Oh. Ja, ich bin überwältigt über all die Kreativität, die dahinter steckt.“ „Allerdings. Boom ist das Maximum an Technik, Kunst, Gesellschaft, Kultur, Spiritualität und Musik.“ antworte ich ihm und fahre fort: „Bis jetzt hatte ich jedes mal sehr mystische Erfahrungen am Boom gemacht. Und ich bin gespannt, was es dieses Mal für mich bereithält!“

Auch die Künstler in der Zeitung bestätigen das:

„Es geht auch nicht nur um Bum-Bum-Musik. Da gibt es noch sooo viel mehr!“

„Möchtest Du ein Bier?“ „Nee danke, ich geh‘ mal weiter, das Gelände bei Tag bewundern. War nett, euch kennenzulernen!“

Noch ist es ruhig auf dem Gelände. Doch immer wieder bilden sich Wellen an Jubelschreien am Strand, die sich über das ganze Gelände ausbreiten. „What is that?“ fragt jemand seinen Kumpel. „It’s the Boom cheering to itself!“.

Nachdem ich in der Healing-Area zwei köstliche Smoothies probiert hab, laufe ich runter zum Strand für etwas Abkühlung. Die Sonne brennt ziemlich heiss vom Himmel. Ich steige ins Wasser und wate am Ufer entlang. Wie damals im 2012, den ganzen Strand im Wasser rauf und runterlaufen. Das hat fast schon Tradition!

Zwei Freunde aus der Schweiz, die beim letzten Mal dabei waren, sind auch dieses Jahr am Boom. Wann ich sie wohl treffe? Doch meine Gedanken drehen hauptsächlich um eines: Eneas. You know, mein kleiner Boom-Freund vom letzten Mal. Ob er diesmal wohl auch hier ist? Lex, seine Mutter, hatte mir beim Abschied versichert, dass sie an jedem Boom hier sind. Dennoch hab ich Zweifel, dass es wirklich so ist. Erstens: Da gibt es so ein geistiges Muster, dass man Bekanntschaften am Boom einmal und dann nie wieder sieht. Das war bei Jack im 2012 so. Das war bei den meisten Bekanntschaften meiner vergangenen Booms so. Warum sollte es jetzt anders sein? Zweitens: Ich habe seit dem letzten Boom ziemlich oft an Eneas und die schöne Zeit gedacht, die wir hatten. In den Mysterienschulen heisst es, dass man eine Visualisation nach seiner Durchführung vergessen soll, aus seinem Geist entlassen, an das Unterbewusstsein übertragen, damit sie sich manifestiert. Auch da habe ich die Erfahrung gemacht, dass dem so ist.

Als ich mir innerlich diese Gedanken, Zweifel und Fragen auf der Fahrt im Bus gestellt habe, sangen sie in der hinteren Reihe: „Never stop believing!“ Hach. Wir werden sehen. Ich habe versucht, keine Erwartungen an dieses Boom zu haben. Aber was ist, wenn es ein schlechtes Boom wird? „Bullshit, das Boom ist noch nie schlecht herausgekommen.“ Aber wie wird es?

Gedankenversunken wandere ich im Wasser weiter. Kleine Fische schwimmen aufgescheucht von meinen pflatschenden Sandalen davon. Ich überbrücke die Insel ums Seelenfeuer über Land und wate auf der anderen Seite wieder ins Wasser. Es fühlt sich kühl an, doch an den seichten Stellen hat es sicher um die 28°. Mein Blick wandert über die Menge, die im Wasser planscht und bleibt an einem blonden Haarschopf stehen. OH MY GOD. IT IS HAPPENING. Dieser blonde Haarschopf gehört zu Eneas, der verträumt ins Wasser blickt. „Jetzt wird es ein gutes Boom“, triumphiere ich.

The Portal has opened. Seit dem Feuerfestival weiss ich, dass sich Portale und Gelegenheiten öffnen und schliessen. Also was, geh ich zu ihm hin -- odernicht? Er ist nicht allein. Was denken die wohl, wenn einfach ein Fremder daherkommt und ihn anspricht? Und: Kennt er mich überhaupt noch? Zwei Jahre sind eine lange Zeit.
Ein Dust-Devil bauscht sich über der Chillout-Area auf und ich schaue ihm amüsiert zu. Eneas verlässt das Wasser. Jetzt oder jetzt? Scheiss Portale. Jetzt. Jetzt. Egal wie schlimm es wird; ich würde mich siebenfach Ohrfeigen und danach erschiessen, wenn ich mir jetzt keinen Ruck gebe.

„Hi Eneas.“ Sein Blick ist erst abgewandt, doch dann wendet er sich zu mir und lächelt. „Oh Hi!“ Yeah, er kennt mich noch! „Hey man, so good to see you!“ begrüssen wir uns. Wundervoll. Die anderen Kinder waren letztes mal bei der Show dabei, einige Gesichter kommen mir bekannt vor. „Treffen wir uns oben bei den Young Dragons in der Healing-Area“ sagt Eneas auf holländisch zu ihnen. Wir ziehen los und erzählen uns, was uns bisher am Boom-Gelände aufgefallen ist und was im Vergleich zum letzten Mal anders ist. Dass der Chillout-Stage von indonesischer Bauweise ist und sie den Künstler zur Inspiration nach Indonesien geschickt haben. Oder dass es früher mal ein „Anti-Boom“ am Ufer auf der anderen Seite des Sees gab. „Diese Leute mögen das Boom nicht, so machten sie eine Gegenveranstaltung. Aber das findet nicht mehr statt.“ erzählt Eneas. Oh, was ist das? Psychedelische Kunstwerke, Blumen im Wasser, gemacht aus Holz und Neonfäden.

„Oh wart, hier setzt sich grad eine Libelle auf eine Blume.“ sage ich zu ihm und krame meine Kamera hervor.

Eine Pizza später kommen wir bei der Liminal Village an. „Let’s go backstage, so you can see my mom.“ Wir wandern durch den Durchgang. „Woooow -- how did you find each other?“ wir begrüssen uns mit einer langen Umarmung. So grossartig.

„Sure, go on Eneas, light up the altar, the festival has started.“ ermuntert sie ihn. Er hat bereits Räucherware entzündet und kämpft gerade damit, die Kohle zu entzünden, die der eigentliche Treibstoff für das Räucherwerk ist.

Was für eine wunderbare Einführung. Wie in einem Heimsanktuarium.

„Das ist Obsidian“, erklärt er mir und deutet auf die schwarze Statue in der Mitte. Auf dem Stein sind Tarotkarten, Kerzen und Räucherwerk ausgebreitet. Der Papierstapel ist die Eröffnungsrede, die Eneas‘ Mutter später im Tanztempel halten wird.

„Pull a card.“ ermuntert er mich und hält mir einen Fächer Osho Zen Tarotkarten hin. Mal sehen -- diese hier.

What we call love is really a whole spectrum of relating, reaching from the earth to the sky. At the most earthy level, love is sexual attraction. Many of us remain stuck there, because our conditioning has burdened our sexuality with all kinds of expectations and repressions. Actually the biggest „problem“ with sexual love is that it never lasts. Only if we accept this fact can we then really celebrate it for what it is -- welcome its happening, and say good-bye with gratitude when it’s not.
Then as we mature, we can begin to experience the love that exists beyond sexuality and honors the unique individuality of the other. We begin to understand that our partner often functions as a mirror, reflecting unseen aspects of our deeper self and supporting us to become whole. This love is based in freedom, not expectation or need. Its wings take us higher and higher towards the universal love that experiences all as one.

These three things are to be taken note of: the lowest love is sex -- it is physical -- and the highest refinement of love is compassion. Sex is below love, compassion is above love; love is exactly in the middle.
Very few people know what love is. Ninety-nine percent of people, unfortunately, think sexuality is love -- it is not. Sexuality is very animal; it certainly has the potential of growing into love, but it is not actual love, only a potential…
If you become aware and alert, meditative, then sex can be transformed into love. And if your meditativeness becomes total, absolute, love can be transformed into compassion. Sex is the seed, love is the flower, compassion is the fragrance.
Buddha has defined compassion as ‚love plus meditation‘. When your love is not just a desire for the other, when your love is not only a need, when your love is a sharing, when your love is not that of a beggar but an emperor, when your love is not asking for something in return but is ready only to give -- to give for the sheer joy of giving -- then add meditation to it and the pure fragrance is released.

That is compassion; compassion is the highest phenomenon.

„Jetzt bist du dran“, sage ich zu ihm. Er zieht „Ordinariness“ -- sich an kleinen Dingen im Alltäglichen freuen und die Magie in den mundanen Dingen sehen. Das Haus putzen, Gartenarbeit verrichten, ein Gericht kochen.

Wir gehen wieder raus. „Since this is the backstage“, und ich nur ein regulärer Besucher bin. Kennst du Kalya Scintilla? Der spielt morgen als erster im Alchemy Circle. Seine Musik nutzt das volle Spektrum an Sound, von den tiefsten Bässen bis zu den klarsten Höhen, und da sind soo viele Instrumente dabei. Die Melodien klingen erstklassig! Komm, ich zeig’s dir.

Mit einem klugen Telefon und externem Lautsprecher setzen wir uns auf die Grünfläche in der Liminal Village und lauschen der Musik von Kalya Scintilla zu. „Huch, was ist das für ein Lied?“ Sanfte Glockenspiele, begleitet von Harfenklängen und untermalt von satten Schlagzeugrhythmen. „Blackberry… Das kenn‘ ich gar noch nicht. Wunderschön!“
„Seh mal her.“ sagt er und zeigt mir ein Programm, welches aus dem Kamerabild Karrikaturen erstellt. Mit Gesichtserkennung und Bewegungsverfolgung; das heisst, die Kamera erkennt, wo sich der Mund und die Augen befinden. Plötzlich haben wir lange Zungen und grosse Augen. Ein Knopfdruck weiter spucken wir Feuer, und im nächsten Moment habe ich ein Stirnband mit einer spanischen Flagge umgebunden und kotze Pingpong-Bälleli. Uns vergröhlts. Um uns herum sind sie am aufräumen, putzen und vorbereiten. „Platzier deine Kamera hier und film ganz lang, dann kannst du später das Video schneller abspielen und man sieht den Schatten von der Sonne wandern“, fordert mich Eneas auf. Also gut, probieren wir’s aus!

Ein Thermometersymbol leuchtet auf meiner Kamera auf: Überhitzt! Und das, obwohl sie die ganze Zeit im Schatten stand. Ich schalte sie wieder aus und wir machen draussen noch ein paar Experimente mit der Verschlusszeit, während Eneas Sand in die Luft wirft. Grobe Körner oder Streifen -- je nach dem, wie schnell sich der Verschluss öffnet und wieder schliesst. Eneas begutachtet die Bilder ganz gespannt. Ich bin so froh, haben wir uns wieder getroffen. Er ist mein Wegbegleiter durch die nächsten Tage des Festivals.

Wir lassen den Abend im See ausklingen. „Wie tief ist es?“ Ich kann den Kopf noch über Wasser halten, bei Eneas schauen nur noch die Ärmchen aus dem Wasser. Und hier? Und hier? Bis auch ich vollständig untertauche. Eine Drohne schwirrt über die Abendstimmung. Später werden in der Liminal Village Videos von vergangenen Boomfestivals gezeigt und wir sehen gespannt zu. Neben dem Lautsprecher haben sich ein paar Menschen aufgestellt und bewegen sich zur Filmmusik. Sie können es kaum erwarten, bis der Tanztempel endlich eröffnet ist. Morgen ist es soweit.
