Langsam nimmt es Formen an. Mein Modem zwitschert VDSL – das ist

Heute war der Swisscom-Mensch da und hat einen ganz ollen dicken Schlauch vom Datenhydranten zu meiner Telefondose gelegt. Ja, die ganze Leitung musste ausgewechselt werden.

Rein theoretisch könnte ich jetzt das Weblog bei mir Zuhause hosten – die Daten fahren jetzt nämlich so schnell hoch, wie sie vorhin heruntergekommen sind: 130kb/s…
Aber trotzdem: eine Wohnung ist kein Serverraum. Da fehlt der doppelte Boden, die Kühlung, das Notstrom-Aggregat und was man sonst noch alles braucht, damit eine Webseite immer da ist.

Eigentlich ist es pervers. Nicht mal in der Firma rumpelt es so schnell. Jetzt ist selbst eine 10Mbit Netzwerkkarte hoffnungslos überlastet.

• Früher wartete ich eine Stunde auf eine CD (700M).

• Noch früher sagte man an vor einer Turnhallen-LAN-Party: „25Mbit uf 100 Teilnähmer – do chunsch nie uf dini 100k’s)“ – wow, 100 kb/s, das ist dreimal so viel wie jetzt…
• Noch früherer ging ich mit dem USB-Stick zur Schule (welcher damals 300.- für 64MB gekostet hat!), um dort über die doppelte ISDN-Leitung meine Half-Life Mods herunterzuladen. Ein Mod pro Lektion…
• Und am allerfrühsten zockten wir C&C 2 Alarmstufe Rot über die Telefonleitung. Da wartete ich eine Stunde auf 4MB…
• Und vor dem Urknall war man wohl froh, wenn man jedem Bit kurz die Hand schütteln konnte, wenn es durch die Leitung schlich.

Schon krass, wenn die Internetleitung plötzlich schneller ist als ein Diskettenlaufwerk… Genauer gesagt 27x schneller. Auch müsste ich die Daten nun mit einem 16x-Brenner schreiben, wollte ich das Image direkt auf CD brennen. Damals war ein 12x Plextor Brenner der Renner… 🙂

Die armen Server. Wenn nun alle mit so verschwenderisch viel Bandbreite ausgestattet werden, dann nimmt es mich Wunder, was man denn an der anderen Seite bereitstellen muss.
