Ich hatte schon länger vor, mal in der Uni-Bibliothek vorbeizuschauen. Es heisst, die sei öffentlich… Und warum nicht heute, wo der Himmel sowieso mit dickem Nebel zugedeckt und an Fliegen nicht zu denken ist.

Unscheinbar versteckt sich ein Eingang in der Universität. Wir spazierten einfach mal rein, und trauten unseren Augen kaum: Wir kamen in einen Raum, der grösser ist als eine Turnhalle – Bücherregal an Bücherregal! „Und obe au no!“ bemerkte Yves. Zwei Stockwerke voll – das ist wirklich riesig!

Es war erstaunlich ruhig im Raum, obwohl an jeder Ecke Studenten und Studentinnen sassen – jeder in sein Powerbook vertieft, daneben einen Stapel Bücher. Wie kommt mir das bekannt vor…

Wir irrten zwischen den Regalen umher. Rechnungswesen, Wirtschaft – würg.
Falsches Regal. Weiter gehts: Sprachen, Geographie… Auch eher weniger. Aber im oberen Stockwerk wurde ich fündig:

Das sind jetzt zwei Regale. Insgesamt tummelt sich hier Fachlektüre auf über sechs Regalen (oder mehr, keine Ahnung – es sind einfach viel)!

Wow! Bin ich hier im Schlaraffenland? Oh, hier ein O’Reilly Buch über SSH. Wollte ich schon immer lesen. Ob man als nicht Student wohl etwas ausleihen darf?

Und ob! An der Ausleihteke wurde mir nach der Adresserfassung sogleich ein Ausweis ausgestellt. Ich darf maximal 30 Bücher für mindestens zwei Wochen, maximal 1,5 Monaten ausleihen! Ah, 30 Bücher. Ok… Und jetzt kommts: GRATIS! 30 Bücher einfach g.r.a.t.i.s. – ich bin wirklich im Schlaraffenland.

Ich bin zwar kein Student – aber ich kann ja so tun als ob. Immerhin habe ich das Privileg, dass ich etwas lernen darf, und nicht etwas lernen muss. Und jetzt liegt eine riesige Informationsquelle einen Veloweg entfernt zu meinen Füssen. Besser kann ich es nicht haben!

Ich erinnere mich noch an die kleine Schämmerbibliothek im „modernen“ und „zukunftsweisenden“ Aesch – wo man maximal drei Bücher zu 2.- pro Stück vielleicht für zwei Wochen ausleihen durfte…

Jaja, die guten alten Zeiten… Aber hier in St. Gallen herrschen andere Kaliber. 😉
