So, das Tierchen ist raus. Macht sich gut, der Tiger im Leopardfell – so kommt es mir jedenfalls vor. Klar, es sieht alles ein wenig anders aus – alles ist jetzt in diesem gruusigen iTunes-Grau. Und diese graublauen Ordner – igitt. Vom Design her hat mir Panther am besten gefallen – diese weisse Oberfläche mit den grauen Rillen. Geschmackssache. Aber wenigstens ist jetzt alles einheitlich!

Wie immer nach einer grossen OS-Installation will ich den root-Account deaktivieren. Doch: Wo ist der Netinfo-Manager? Gibt es nicht mehr! Das Tool heisst neu: Verzeichnisdienste. Glück gehabt…

Etwas hat mich schon immer gestört, und das hat sich über alle Releases von Mac OS X erstreckt: Die Mausbeschleunigungskurve. Wie der Mauszeiger auf Bewegungen reagiert. Eben nicht linear, sondern quadratisch – und das ist schon etwas hakelig zum Steuern…

So, jetzt aber genug kritisiert. Es gibt ein paar Coole Dinge. Zum Beispiel: Stacks. Einfach einen Ordner ins Dock ziehen. Und beim Draufklicken entfächert oder entgittert sich der Inhalt, je nachdem wieviele Dateien drin sind. Besonders der Download-Stack ist enorm praktisch, so bleibt der Desktop schön frei.

Das Terminal hat sich auch sehr zu meinen Gunsten verbessert – manch einer mag jetzt einwenden: na und? Aber Terminal ist neben iTunes einer meiner Hauptanwendungen. Und es hat nun ENDLICH Tabs! Und UTF-8 Zeichen werden jetzt auch korrekt behandelt. Endlich kann ich im Vim Umlaute ohne Probleme bearbeiten.

Apple hat sich wieder mal Zeit genommen, an Details zu feilen. Weniger Knallerfeatures – dafür Kleinigkeiten verbessern. Dinge, die man nicht auf die Verpackung schreiben kann – das macht’s eben aus, dass Mac OS X funktioniert, auch bis in den letzten Winkel.

Spotlight ist geradezu rasend bei der Suche. Kann man jetzt prima als Programmstarter verwenden. Und mit Spaces ist ein angenehmer Desktop-Manager integriert worden.

„Übersicht“ (Quicklook) ist ganz heiss! Einfach mal kurz in ein PDF reinschauen, oder ein Video abspielen, ohne gleich einen Player starten zu müssen – klasse!

Insgesamt kommt Leopard gut daher – auch wenn sich die Innovationen in Grenzen halten. Cover-Flow ist ja nett… Aber ich vermisse immer noch einen „Norton-Commander“-Modus im Finder…

Jetzt etwas für diejenigen unter euch, welche mit wenig Aufwand viel erreichen wollen.

Während den Einführungstagen in meiner neuen Firma habe ich nebenbei ein nützliches Tool geschrieben, welches mir täglich wie ein Butler zu Diensten steht. Es ist schon fast ein kleines Framework, mit dem man sehr schnell Sachen automatisieren kann. Es wird Zeit, es endlich mal der Öffentlichkeit vorzustellen.

Ich komme oft an folgende Situation: Ein simpler Arbeitsablauf muss 100x ausgeführt werden. Shell-Skripts sind tabu, da man z.B. hundert Vorlagen von einer Website herunterladen, anpassen und wieder hochladen muss. Also muss AutoIt ran.

Neues Skript erstellen, Hotkey definieren, los geht’s. Praktisch. Jedem Programm sein Skript. Aber: Der Systray droht zu überlaufen, und die Hotkeys gehen langsam aus… Wäre es nicht praktisch, EINEN Hotkey für alle Programme zu haben?

Jetzt kommt ControlSpace. Ich drücke CTRL und SPACE, und im PuTTY wird der Scrollback gelöscht. Bin ich im Texteditor, werden alle Umlaute ersetzt (Beispiel). So sind die Aktionen pro Fenster definierbar.

Was aber, wenn ich mehrere Skripts pro Fenster will? Dann werden eben Buttons eingeblendet, und ich kann wahlweise draufklicken oder die entsprechende Zahl auf dem Numpad drücken. Und damit man nicht immer den Source neu kompilieren und umständliche Abfragen erstellen muss, werden alle Aktionen in Kurzform in einer Konfigurationsdatei, der space.control, definiert:

Das erzeugt dann folgendes Menü, wenn man im Firefox CTRL+SPACE betätigt:

Simpel – aber verdammt mächtig… 😉

Und wenn man draufklickt – naja, dann geht’s ab! Ich habe mir Aktionen definiert, wo das aktuell markierte Wort gleich in der Wikipedia nachgeschlagen wird, oder im LEO übersetzt wird…

Aktuell stehen Kommandos zum Tasten senden, Programme starten, Text ersetzen und für verschiedene Fenstermanipulationen zur Verfügung. Einfach mal runterladen und starten, die Konfigurationsdatei ist dokumentiert 😉

Wer mehr Funktionen braucht: Einfach reinhacken. Der Source steht unter der GPL und ist gleich mitgeliefert.

Aber es ist erstaunlich, wie weit man nur schon mit diesen Kommandos kommt. Wenn nun solche Routinearbeiten kommen, drücke ich CTRL+ALT+SPACE, Notepad geht auf mit dem Config-File, Skript reinschreiben, fertig. Sobald das Fenster geschlossen wird, ist die neue Konfiguration aktiv.

Registriert ist die Adresse auf Peter Kopimi, ein Mitbegründer von The Pirate Bay. Diese schwedische Organisation nennt sich selbst den grössten BitTorrent-Tracker der Welt – also ein Download-Paradies für Nutzer des BitTorrent-Netzes. Möglich war die Übernahme der Domain, weil die IFPI es versäumt hatte, ihre Registrierung für ifpi.com rechtzeitig zu verlängern.

Das war eine meiner ersten Aufnahmen an diesem Abend. Hier musste ich noch mit dem Verstärkeradapter experimentieren – leider merkte ich erst im Nachhinein, dass der 20DB-Dämpfer alleine nicht ausreicht – die Riesensubwoofer des Soca machen meinem Mikrofon schwer zu schaffen… Bei allen späteren Aufnahmen ist zusätzlich noch der Bassfilter aktiv, welcher alle Frequenzen unter 300Hz abschneidet.

Da verlieren wir unser Fell. Und zittern selbst unter der güldenen Herbstsonne vor Kälte.
Gezittert habe ich auch beim Lesen der Umfrage von Winlink. Vor Verärgerung. Die wenigsten der Kandidaten für eines der hohen politischen Ämter scheinen sich für die IT zu interessieren. Das ist etwa so, als würde man Galileo Galilei wiedererwecken und mit einer eigenen Liste antreten lassen. Benutzen die noch den Gänsekiel?
Die aktuelle Politik ist und hat eine Scheibe. Zwar führen die Ausschafer die feinste IT-Klinge, mit Internet-TV oder Photoshopkünsten zum Entlarven von Chaoten. Die Politik, sie bewegt sich dennoch nicht. Die Quote führt zum inhaltlichen Stillstand – das hat bereits das Privatfernsehen vorexerziert.
A propos Photoshop: Wenn die Polizei Monate braucht, um ein mit Photoshop zerwirbeltes Porträt in den Urzustand zurückzusetzen, ergibt sich daraus für linke und rechte Chaoten eine ganz neue Perspektive: vor der nächsten Demo einfach die Polizei mit Filterbildern überschwemmen. Und gemeinsame Sache mit der IFPI machen. Die hat ja eine neue Klagewelle angedroht. Die Polizei wird untergehen, jahrzehntelang keine Zeit für Demos mehr haben. Der Weg wäre frei.
Frei für wen? Die Schafe würden alle wohl ziemlich blöde blöken und vor lauter Langeweile verwundert das saftige Gras fressen.

Das ist ihre Bestimmung.
