Ektpar – so wird „Dvorak“ ausgegeben, wenn man „Dvorak“ mit einem schweizer Tastaturlayout schreibt…

Aber Moment mal: Was ist Dvorak überhaupt? Wie wir alle wissen, sind unsere Tastaturen nach dem QWERTZ (oder auch QUERTY) Layout angeordnet. Das ist ergonomisch gesehen nicht wirklich opcuban optiman optimal. Jetzt habe ich es richtig geschrieben. Ja, ihr seht, ich versuche gerade, diesen Tebt Text hier mit dem Dvorak-Layout zu schreiben. Hui, und schon eine halbe Stunde verbraten…

Also, wo waren wir stehengeblieben? Ach ja: WAS ist Dvorak? Das Dvorak-Layout wurde 1932 von August Dvorak entworfen, mit der Vorgabe, möglichst einfach erlernbar und schnell anwendbar zu sein. Dem Entwurf des Tastaturlayouts gingen dabei Untersuchungen der Buchstabenhäufigkeit und der Physiologie der Hände voraus.

Dieses ergonomische Tastaturlayout wurde auf Grundlage der folgenden Prinzipien entworfen:

• Auf einer mechanischen Tastatur ist es leichter, Buchstaben zu tippen, wenn dabei die Hände abwechseln.
• Die häufigsten Buchstaben und Buchstabenkombinationen sollten sich dort befinden, wo die Hände aufliegen.
• Die selteneren Buchstaben sollten auf der unteren (der am schlechtesten zu erreichenden) Reihe liegen.
• Die rechte Hand sollte, da die meisten Menschen Rechtshänder sind, mehr Tipparbeit verrichten.
• Digraphe sollten mit benachbarten Fingern geschrieben werden.
• Die günstigste Fingerbewegung ist von außen nach innen.

Das Dvorak-Tastaturlayout konnte sich aber nie wirklich durchsetzen, da nur wenige Menschen bereit waren umzulernen, die Industrie das QWERTZ-Tastaturlayout als Standard verwendet und Maschineschreiblehrer nur auf der „normalen“ Tastatur ausbilden. 1984 gab es in den USA etwa 100.000 Benutzer dieses Tastaturlayouts. Es hat trotzdem nichts von seinem Sinn verloren, heute ist es ISO-zertifiziert.

Und dieses Tastaturlayout besitzt nun eine komplett andere Tastenanordnung, um weniger Ermüdung und schnelleres Schreiben zu ermöglichen.

Ou mann… Schon 23:40 Uhr. Ich schalte es mal aus, sono sonst vwerie werde ich ja nie fertig… Aber es geht schon viel besser!

So. Aaah! Das ist schon gewohnter. Aber ich muss sagen: Auch wenn es total ungewohnt ist, und die Hirnzellen und Konzentration fordert, ist es sehr angenehm damit zu schreiben – wenn man es kann. Bis jetzt gefällt mir der Rythmus. Die Finger bleiben schön auf der mittleren Zeile und wechseln nur selten nach oben oder nach unten. Auch wird bei fast jedem Buchstaben die Hand gewechselt. Cool!

Ist mal was ganz neues, mit Dvorak zu bloggen… Aber jetzt merke ich, wie schnell ich eigentlich im Tastaturschreiben bin. Wie ich einfach so ohne zu Überlegen drauflosschreiben kann, und meine Hände tippen vonallein. Das Umdenken auf Dvorak fordert jetzt meine grauen Zellen… So sehe ich mal, wie schnell ich etwas erlernen kann. Andere üben sich mit dem Lösen von Sudokus, ich blogge mit Dvorak. Und wer weiss, vielleicht kann ich plötzlich schneller schreiben mit Dvorak als jetzt mit dem jetzigen QWERTZ-Schema? Das wäre ja eigentlich auch der Sinn der ganzen Sache. Wenn ich mir jetzt beim Schnellschreiben zuschaue – drei Zeichen tippen, zwei korrigieren, fünf tippen, eins korrigieren… Und die Finger wechseln ständig die Position.

Es gibt aber leider auch gewisse Nachteile:

• Das Standard Dvorak-Layout hat keine Umlaute
• Aus diesem Grund wurde ein spezielles DE Dvorak-Layout (Dvorak Typ II) entworfen – mit grösseren Unterschieden zum Original
• Ubuntu, Windows und Mac OS X unterstützen standardmässig nur das englische original Dvorak-Layout
• Es gibt aber spezielle Treiber & Keymaps für jedes OS.
• Tastaturschreib-Lernprogramme orientieren sich am Standard
• Viele Programme lassen sich nur mit QWERTZ vernünftig steuern (Vi, Quake…)
• Verlernt man dann nicht das 9-Fingersystem auf dem Standardlayout?

Also: Angenehmes Lernen, von Haus aus Unterstützung in jedem OS oder ein angepasstes Layout mit Umlauten und Spezialtreibern? Ich entschied mich für das angepasste Layout. Schliesslich nutze ich Dvorak nur auf meinen Kisten, muss also nur einmal Treiber installieren – und selbst das beschränkt sich auf das Kopieren einer Datei. Und sollte ich später damit mal wirklich schnell schreiben können, dann habe ich mit dem deutschen Dvorak-Layout mit Umlauten einen klaren Vorteil – z.B. bei Dokumentationen, oder mit der IPA… Dvorak auf der Kommandozeile bringts nicht wirklich, da ich öfters den Texteditor Vi benutze, der sich komplett mit der Tastatur steuert…
