…stehen wir uns selber im Weg. Voller Euphorie einen IPCop in Betrieb nehmen, Proxy- und Traffic-Shaping einschalten und es ordentlich brettern lassen. Jaa, das ist schön.

Nur: dummerweise habe ich dadurch nichts von der Bandbreitenerhöhung gemerkt, bis Rakudave gestern auf die Idee kam, dass unsere Bandbreite möglicherweise durch das Traffic-Shaping nicht voll ausgenutzt wird…. 😉

Gestern hätten wir hätten uns erschiessen können, ehrlich. Womöglich ist die Bandbreite schon lange erweitert worden, doch wir surfen mit der gleichen Geschwindigkeit wie immer – nur weil wir vergessen haben, die Angaben im IPCop zu aktualisieren.

Tja – so chas go…

Aber jetzt läuft dafür alles am Limit; die Bandbreite ist gemäss Swisscom voll ausgeschöpft. 3000k down, 300k up – mehr geht nicht. Braucht’s im Grunde genommen ja auch nicht.

Traffic-Shaping: Priorisierung von Datenverkehr in einem Netzwerk; die verfügbare Bandbreite wird nicht voll ausgelastet, damit noch genug Luft für Pakete mit höherer Priorität ist. Damit das funktioniert, muss die Kapazität des Schlauches angegeben werden. Ausserdem sorgt Traffic-Shaping dafür, dass keine Leitungen „verstopfen“.
