„Ubuntu“ is an ancient African word, meaning „humanity to others“. Ubuntu also means „I am what I am because of who we all are“. The Ubuntu Linux distribution brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world.

Ubuntu funkioniert etwa so: CD einlegen, Sprache wählen. 5 Minuten später läuft das System. Perfekt.

Im Ernst: Was die Entwickler da geschaffen haben, ist wirklich GENIAL! Sämtliche Hardware (eine Ausnahme: Sound) ist voll funktionstüchtig. Die Bildschirmauflösung ist ergonomisch. Die Wiederholrate hoch. Das Tastaturlayout stimmt. Das Scrollrad funkioniert. Die Netzwerkkarte macht kurz einen DHCP-Broadcast und wir sind online. Die 3D-Beschleunigung ist aktiv und funkioniert.
Ein System, mit dem man wirklich arbeiten kann; das man wirklich Benutzen kann. Ohne Fehler, ohne nächtelanges Experimentieren.

Apple-Entwickler: Hattet Ihr etwa die Finger im Spiel?

Ubuntu ist wirklich ein Linux zum verlieben. Eine super Alternative, wenn mal das Hauptsystem am A…. ist.

Mit dabei: Firefox, Gaim, BitTorrent, Evolution, OpenOffice, Gimp, tonnenweise Bildschirmschoner und noch viel mehr. Vor allem läuft das Teil blitzschnell. Mal überlegen, das wird vielleicht bald mein neues Hauptsystem im Geschäft.

Endlich mal ein Linux, das sich als Client-Betriebssystem eignet! Wie die Entwickler sagen: „Linux for Human Beings“. Wer auch mal probieren will: Ich hab noch 9 CDs…
