Das sich ein Mac mini nicht nur für den Alltagsgebrauch eignet, bewies Team Banzai im Rahmen des DARPA Grand Challenge mit „Dora“.

„Dora“, is the world’s first fully autonomous vehicle driven by Mac OS X. The entire development and race management efforts at Team Banzai is being done using Apple Mac OS X technology.

Der Grand Challenge ist ein Wettbewerb, bei dem über 280 Kilometer innert 10 Stunden zurückzulegen sind – mit einem Fahrzeug ohne Fahrer und ohne Fernsteuerung.

Drei Mac minis übernehmen die komplette Steuerung des Autos!

Jeder Hebel, jeder Knopf lässt sich automatisiert ansteuern.

Dahinter steckt natürlich wieder einmal die Regierung, genauer gesagt DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) des US-Verteidigungsministeriums, die mit dem hochdotierten Wüstenrennen der Roboter-Autos Anreize für die Entwicklung von autonomen Fahrzeug-Technologien schaffen will.
