Jetzt ist es offiziell: Künftig werden die CPUs für den Macintosh nicht mehr von IBM, sondern von Intel produziert. Gründe für den Bruch mit IBM seien auch Defizite in den PowerPC-Prozessoren und deren grosser Wärmeverbrauch. Dadurch war es weder möglich die G5-CPU in ein Notebook einzubauen noch einen Power Mac mit 3 GHz zu produzieren.
OS X wird weiterhin nicht auf fremden PCs laufen, aber umgekehrt lässt sich Windows auf einem Mac installieren.
