Wie versprochen, hier der erste Testbericht über die neuen Features von Apple’s jüngstem Betriebssystem Mac OS X 10.4 aka Tiger.

Spotlight – eine der grossen Innovationen nebst den anderen „kleinen“ 200 Änderungen… Um was gehts: Oben rechts in der Menüleiste ruht ein kleines blaues Lupensymbol; beim Draufklicken erscheint schlicht und einfach ein kleines Eingabefeld:

Also gut, tippen wir mal: t….i….g…e…r… bereits während des Tippens werden Suchresultate sichtbar:

Sauber geordnet nach Art: Bilder, Dokumente, Programme, E-Mails, Ordner…

Wenn ich jetzt die einzelnen Resultate anklicke, gelange ich direkt zur Quelle, Spotlight findet sogar Begriffe in PDF Dokumenten!

Doch das ist noch längst nicht alles, da Spotlight zum Glück so schnell ist, eröffnen sich ungeahnte Möglichkeiten. Z.B. die weitere Neuerung: „Intelligente Ordner“.

Wie euch vielleicht aus iTunes bekannt ist, gibt es dort sog. „Intelligente Wiedergabelisten“. Vereinfacht gesagt: Filterregeln, mit denen sich Playlists zusammenstellen lassen; z.B. nach Musikrichtung, Album, Artist, etc.
Nun weiten wir dieses Prinzip auf das ganze System aus. Spotlight indiziert nicht nur Dateinamen, sondern auch Metadaten. Hier eine kleine Auswahl an Möglichkeiten:

So finde ich jede Datei, blitzschnell!

Man kann ja bekanntlich Dateien mit einer Farbe kennzeichnen. Ich habe alle wichtigen Daten rot markiert, die geschäftlichen orange, Bilder und Videos blau. Jetzt kann ich eine Suchabfrage erstellen, und alle Daten mit einem roten Etikett werden angezeigt:

Praktisch: Mit einem Link auf der Seitenleiste kann ich jederzeit auf diese Abfrage zurückgreifen. UND: Es spielt überhaupt keine Rolle, WO die Daten gespeichert sind. Sozusagen sind die Intelligenten Ordner wie virtuelle Ordner. Der ganze Filtervorgang wird jedesmal neu durchlaufen, alles absolut dynamisch; so wird sichergestellt, dass auch neuste Daten immer gefunden werden.
Mit anderen Worten: Wenn ich nun eine Datei mit einem roten Etikett versehe, erscheint sie augenblicklich in meinem „Wichtig“-Ordner! Ich muss die Abfrage nicht mal mehr neu laden.
Und wie war das nochmal bei Longhorn? Hat Microsoft nicht etwas ähnliches geplant? Tja liebe Softies, ihr seid zu spät.

Noch ein letztes Feature: Ein DAU möchte z.B. die Bildschirmauflösung anpassen, weiss aber nicht wie. Spotlight ersetzt das ServiceCenter: Man tippt das Schlagwort einfach mal oben rechts in die Spotlight-Bar der Systemsteuerung, und bling:

Sämtliche Optionen, die etwas mit „Bild“ zu tun haben, werden belichtet, die Option mit dem starken Spotlight wird beim Druck auf Enter angewählt. Das Ganze passiert natürlich wie immer bei Apple bereits während dem Tippen.
Der Gag: Sämtliche Einstellungen lassen sich blitzschnell mit der Tastatur finden und steuern!
