Unser Freidenker hat mir wieder mal ein ganz deftiges Tool gezeigt: TrueCrypt. Das Tool kann ähnlich wie PGPDisk verschlüsselte Disk-Images erstellen. Es ist aber wesentlich besser als das Pendant von PGP. Das Teil wurde speziell für Paranoide Leute entwickelt, und durch die ohnehin schon militärtaugliche Verschlüsselung wird TrueCrypt durch Features wie Hidden Volumes zum absoluten Overkiller!
– Es wird extrem viel Wert auf Sicherheit gelegt. Unsichere Verschlüsselungsalgorithmen wurden gar nicht erst Implementiert. Es gibt auch keine Dateiendung. Man kann Images beliebig benennen: .dat, .iso, .swp, .dll…
– Hidden Volume: Nehmen wir mal an, die Regierung, Polizei, Arbeitgeber etc. zwingt einem, das Passwort zu sagen. In vielen Situationen kann man das einfach nicht Ablehnen (z.B. Folter, Gewalt etc.) Kein Problem dank der Hidden Volume: Es gibt zwei Bereiche, eine „Outer Volume“ und eine „Inner Volume“. Beide werden mit verschiedenen Passwörtern versehen. Im Outer Volume kommen „unwichtige“ Pseudo-Files rein, und im Inner Volume die wirklich wichtigen Daten.
Im Falle eines Falles bekommt die Regierung ohne Sorgen das Passwort für die Outer Volume, im Glauben, an die wichtigen Daten ranzukommen. Von einer versteckten Volume bekommt sie rein gar nichts mit, nicht mal, dass ich überhaupt eine erstellt habe.
– OpenSource, d.h. unterliegt nicht den amerikanischen Exportbeschränkungen, d.h. extrem starke Verschlüsselung! Notfalls auch dreifach – Das Teil ist militärtauglich!
– Umfangreiche Sicherheitstipps; TrueCrypt wurde voll und ganz auf Sicherheit getrimmt. Beispiel: Auslagerungsdatei ausschalten. Warum: Die Daten werden ja verschlüsselt abgespeichert, und bei Benutzung liegen sie unverschlüsselt im RAM. Was passiert, wenn zuwenig RAM vorhanden ist? Bingo, die Daten landen unverschlüsselt auf der Festplatte!
– Verschlüsselt nicht nur Images, die dann als Dateien vorliegen. Nein, auch Partitionen können komplett verschlüsselt werden! USB-Sticks, ZIP-Laufwerke, RAID-Volumes… You name it.
– Freier Speicherplatz wird mit Zufallsdaten gefüllt. Man weiss nicht mal, ob überhaupt Dateien vorhanden sind oder nicht.
