Da ich mein OpenFirmware-Passwort vergessen habe, bin ich zufällig auf diese geniale Site gestossen:

OpenFirmware: Das „BIOS“ des Macs…
Bei dieser Feuerwehrübung wurde mir bewusst, wie extrem sicher das System eines Macs ist! Keine Standardpasswörter, keine Support-Accounts, keine Hintertüren. Wird die Security-mode auf „full“ gesetzt, und man hat sein Passwort vergessen, hilft nur noch RAM ausbauen und OF-Reset. Und das dürfte beim Mac mini ein bisschen schwierig sein…
Doch glücklicherweise war die Security-mode nicht „full“, sondern „command“. Man darf genau eins: das System booten. Für alles andere (von CD, Netzwerk etc. booten, OF-Reset, Passwort-Reset, Verbose, Singleuser etc) wird das (vergessene) Passwort verlangt.
Hmmm, tja, doch ich komme ja noch in meinen Account mit Admin (aber nicht root!) Rechten. Denn admin ist nicht gleich root bei OSX. Root braucht es nicht, ist bei mir deaktiviert und wäre sowieso nur eine Sicherheitslücke. Eben, wo waren wir stehengeblieben: Ich setzte den Sicherheitsmodus im Terminal also mit sudo nvram security-mode=“none“ zurück. Reboot (ja, und bei 4d uptime ziemlich schmerzhaft!), in OF eingeloggt, und siehe da: es wird kein Passwort mehr verlangt! YES! Passwort mittels „password“ neu gesetzt und mit „reset-all“ gespeichert. BINGO.
