Jede gesellschaftliche Ordnung basiert auf einem Verbrechen – das Verbrechen, das die vorige Ordnung abgeschafft hat. Danach wird die neue Ordnung als legitim wahrgenommen, sobald die Leute anfangen, sie als gegeben hinzunehmen. Das Gründungsverbrechen der USA war zum Beispiel die Rebellion gegen die britische Monarchie. Das Gründungsverbrechen der kommenden Gesellschaft – falls wir diese hier überleben sollten – wird die heutigen Gesetze und Institutionen abschaffen.
Die Kategorie Verbrechen bezeichnet alles, was die Grenzen einer Gesellschaft übertritt – im Guten wie im Schlechten. Jedes System ist von allem, was es nicht einbeziehen oder kontrollieren kann, bedroht. Jede Ordnung beinhaltet schon die Samen ihrer eigenen Zerstörung.
Nichts bleibt ewig bestehen, das gilt auch für Imperien und Kulturen. Was könnte diese Gesellschaft ablösen? Können wir uns eine Ordnung vorstellen, die nicht auf der Einteilung des Lebens in legitim und nicht-legitim, legal und illegal, Herrschende und Beherrschte basiert? Was könnte das letzte Verbrechen sein?
